worm dimikles: 1700 atk 1400 def flip: this card gains 300 atk and def

suppose my opponent with 1600 atk attacks my face down dimikles, does he lose 100 life points or does my worm get destoryed? i ask because in tag force 5, everytime my worm dimikles is flipped up, i see no change in def. Then again, I have only seen monsters with 1800 or higher atk attack my face down dimikles.

If your monster has higher defense than your opponent takes the damage. The lack of change you see in the game occurs because it is irrelevant if your opponent's monsters are already stronger. Jon Kovacs (talkcontribs) 17:49, January 13, 2011 (UTC):
The boost would not be conferred until he's already dead. Sorry. 207.233.120.2 (talk) 18:21, January 13, 2011 (UTC)

thank you Jon, that is what i figured as far as the game.

second user: can you explain what you mean but "until he's already dead"? are you saying worm dimikles goes to the graveyard with 1700 atk and 1400 def, then gains a boost to have 2000 atk and 1700 def? that doesn't sound right. Not attacking your knowledge or anything, it just sounds senseless to me.

That isn't what I said. You said that he would always be attacked by 1800 attack monsters. So if he is flipped and gains 300 defense, its irrelevant because he would be destroyed either way, 300 defense boost or not. Jon Kovacs (talkcontribs) 18:44, January 13, 2011 (UTC)

Breakdown of the Battle Phase

you'll see, the monster is considered to be destroyed by battle in substep 4 of the damage step (after damage calculation that is decided). Flip effect activate in substep 6, so there it is too late for the effect to resolve. It already has been destroyed by then. -dest- (talkcontribs) 18:46, January 13, 2011 (UTC)

Jon Kovacs- i was asking user 207.233.120.2. I understood and agreed with what you said about what happens in tag force 5.

-dest-: thank you, that was a clear explanation and i looked at the wikia entry on damage step and now i get understand. thank you.

Sorry about that. I changed my post, but there was an edit conflict, and I think that I mixed up which section to fix the text in. Jon Kovacs (talkcontribs) 01:18, January 14, 2011 (UTC)
