Question, if an XYZ card is destroyed in battle and still has XYZ material, are the battle effects still active (such as summoning tokens) or are they negated the moment it was used as material?

Dr Kain (talkcontribs) 06:11, February 17, 2012 (UTC)

Monsters stop being monsters the moment they become XYZ materials and they aren't even counted as being on the field. So card such as Sangan and Reborn Tengu do not get their effects.--The FireFALL (talkcontribs) 06:22, February 17, 2012 (UTC)

Xyz Material are no longer considered "on the field," so any effects they might have had while face-up no longer apply. However, if detached, they still count as being "sent to the Graveyard": Sangan doesn't trigger, since it must be sent from the field to the Graveyard, but Dandylion does.--Ryusui (talkcontribs) 06:26, February 17, 2012 (UTC)

As people have said, if it has a sent from the field to the grave effect it doesn't get its effect. If it's just a sent to the grave it does.
Before you say anything, no Reborn Tengu doesn't get its effect if you Xyz with it as it hasn't been removed from the field it's just joined a bigger monster and then loses its effect since it's part of that monster now. I know, it's weird.121.222.228.13 (talk) 10:54, February 17, 2012 (UTC)

Can tokens be used as XYZ material? Such as the ones from Tanngrisnir?

Dr Kain (talkcontribs) 06:33, February 19, 2012 (UTC)

No, as they are not on the field Jamesfury (talkcontribs) 06:34, February 19, 2012 (UTC)

How are they not on the field?

Dr Kain (talkcontribs) 06:40, February 19, 2012 (UTC)

Token's are not real monsters, probably because they are never sent to the graveyard. But to be short, no, you can't use them as Xyz materials, but Trap monsters are perfectly acceptable. Jamesfury (talkcontribs) 06:44, February 19, 2012 (UTC)

There is no way to explain it with Grammar, It is simply what Konami said.--Helix-king (talkcontribs) 06:53, February 19, 2012 (UTC)

Jamesfury is correct. It has something to do with the fact they aren't actual monsters so they can't be merged into a bigger monster, Trap Monsters are considered actual monsters.
From Xyz Summon:
In OCG/TCG, Trap Monsters can be used as Xyz Materials, but not Token Monsters. You can't use Tokens because they are not physical cards you can pile under the Xyz Monster.

Got it, thanks.

Another question I just thought of. Can XYZ monsters be used for Synchro Summons? For example, if I have an Illumina Knight an a Wind-Up Zaimenster (or whatever it is) and summon Valkyrie, can I use them as synchro material for Odin?

Dr Kain (talkcontribs) 08:22, February 20, 2012 (UTC)

They don't have levels so no.121.222.228.13 (talk) 09:15, February 20, 2012 (UTC)

That is what I was expecting, but wanted to double check, thanks again.

Most of these can be answered by reading Xyz Summon and Xyz Material...
