Ultra Poly/Starving Venom[edit]

What evidence suggests that you can revive the monsters used to Summon Starving Venom via Ultra Poly? --AvzinElkein (talkcontribs) 18:27, December 4, 2017 (UTC)

The evidence that I have that you can use Ultra Polymerization's second effect to bring back the two Fusion Materials used to Fusion Summon "Starving Venom Fusion Dragon" is the following:
The text for "Ultra Polymerization" is very similar to that of "De-Fusion". De-Fusion states "Target 1 Fusion Monster on the field; return that target to the Extra Deck, then, if all the Fusion Materials that were used for its Fusion Summon are in your Graveyard, you can Special Summon all of them", while Ultra Polymerization's second effect states, "You can banish this card from your Graveyard, then target 1 Fusion Monster that was Fusion Summoned with this card's effect; Special Summon all the Fusion Materials used for its Fusion Summon from your Graveyard, but their ATK and DEF become 0 and their effects are negated". The texts of both "De-Fusion" and the second effect of "Ultra Polymerization" state that all of the specific Fusion Materials for the targeted Fusion monster must still be in the Graveyard in order for their effects to activate and resolve. You are assuming this argument has never come up before. No, that is not allowed. Konami's official rulings outright state "2 DARK monsters on the field" cannot be in the Graveyard as reason, and for both cards:

Q: I activate Superior Polymerization, and use Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio and Predaplant Darling Cobra on my field as Fusion Materials to Fusion Summon a Starving Venom Fusion Dragon. Afterward, can I activate the effect of Superior Polymerization that Special Summons the Fusion Material monsters used for the Fusion Summon by banishing it from my Graveyard?
A: In this scenario, if the Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio and Predaplant Darling Cobra that were used as Fusion Materials for the effect of Superior Polymerization are in your Graveyard, they are not 2 non-Token DARK monsters on the field, so they are not the correct Fusion Materials for Starving Venom Fusion Dragon. Therefore, if Starving Venom Fusion Dragon was Fusion Summoned with the effect of Superior Polymerization, the second effect of Superior Polymerization cannot be activated.

It's utterly stupid, but that's how it is. --XBrain130™エックスブレーン130」 20:29, December 4, 2017 (UTC)
Let me say this though. It states the second effect of "Ultra Polymerization" after using it to Fusion Summon "Starving Venom Fusion Dragon" cannot be used in the OCG, it never said anything about the TCG, which is what I play. User:JaceThePendulumDuelist (User talk:JaceThePendulumDuelist) contribs
Uhhhh no. OCG rulings are valid to the TCG as well unless stated otherwise. --XBrain130™エックスブレーン130」 23:05, December 4, 2017 (UTC)
Guys, in the TCG you can Summon the mats back. In the OCG, you cannot. At least last I checked was like this. Konami TCG explicitly stated this at the time. Becasita Pendulum (talkcontribs) 23:25, December 4, 2017 (UTC)
XBrian130, unless you have a source for the ruling that you claim that OCG Rulings also apply for the TCG, your arguement is invalid. User:JaceThePendulumDuelist (User talk:JaceThePendulumDuelist) contribs
OCG rulings being applied to the TCG was what I learned long ago, I don't know where is the source for that but that's what we have always done. If anything, it's Becasita that must cite where Konami of America reversed Konami of Japan's judgment, because I never heard of that. Heck, this ruling was given to De-Fusion before Ultra Polymerization was released at all. --XBrain130™エックスブレーン130」 01:11, December 5, 2017 (UTC)
While yes De-Fusion has been released before "Ultra Polymerization", there are currently no rulings for "Ultra Polymerization". And the OCG rulings do not apply for the TCG all of the time. So therefore, if I was playing a TCG Game, my play would be legal, while in a OCG Game, it would be considered illegal. User:JaceThePendulumDuelist (User talk:JaceThePendulumDuelist) contribs
That's not how it works. Only the OCG gets actual rulings, the TCG does not. Instead, the TCG expects the players to be geniuses and understand everything from the text in the effect box (which is of course an utopia), but they are supposed to function in the same exact way as otherwise World Championships wouldn't make any sense. It's the same reason TCG has to constantly hop through loops when dealing with archetype names. --XBrain130™エックスブレーン130」 01:26, December 5, 2017 (UTC)
