Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve as an administrator. Please answer the following four questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
A: As you may have read on my User talk page, on Dinoguy1000 User talk page but mainly on Deltaneos', the main administrative work I want to do is the treatment of images. As we all know, it's very messy since the image policies aren't often respected... There's a lot of work to do on several galleries as well as renaming some images, deleting unnecessary files, categorizing pages ... Of course, I will work on every other aspect a administrator needs to work like deleting spams, reverting vandals etc.
2. What do you consider to be your best contributions, and why?
A: I would say that my best contributions are the upload of a lot of french cards (and i've got loads more at home!) as well as working on images, galleries etc.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: I've never been in such cases since I don't really participate in the forum. Well, I do read it but I'm more a colletor than a player so since I'm not very good with decks, rulings and stuff, I prefer to help or to give my opinion in subjects that I can handle.
4. Do you regularly contribute to any other wikis? Are you an administrator or bureaucrat on any of them, or do you have accounts with similar roles on forums, blogs, etc.? Could you provide links, if so?
A: I am the founder of the french yugioh wikia and such as, the main administrator. Here is my user page

Questions from Deltaneos

Questions from me. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:02, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

5: You've had your account for a few years, but recently you've been active for about a week. Back in 2008, you were active for about a week around the same time of year, then took a break. In 2009, you were active for about four weeks also around the same time of year, then took a break. You have a few scattered edits outside these intervals and none in 2010. Do you know if you're going to remain active this year? (Of course there's no contract saying you have to spend so much time here. People are allowed to have lives outside the site.)
A: I will try to answer as honestly as I can. I am a big traveller. I just came back from Australia where I spent almost a year (without access to my cards and stuff. Now I live in Paris with my girlfriend and I'll stay here for at least 2 years. To answer your question, I'll be honest by saying you that I will not be able to be as active as i am from the begining of july til the begining of september. My girlfriend is having a surgery operation in july in her home country (Ecuador) and I have to be there. Of course i will have access to internet but i have absolutely no idea if i would be able to be as active as i am now. Until then (may/june), I have no reason to not remain active. Besides that, we'll get back to Paris in september and i'll be re-active from there until... Well until the longest i can!

Moving images and deleting duplicates is one area of admin access. It's pretty straightforward and unlikely to cause any trouble. Deleting articles, protecting pages and blocking users are areas which require much more responsibility. While you may not plan on using these functions, you will have access to them if you become an admin. It's not easy to ignore them and you may be asked to use them. The next few questions are going to be based on this.

6: Do you have any immediate plans that require deleting, protecting, blocking or editing MediaWiki pages?
A: I'm not really good at touching the what i call "technical part" of the wiki such as MediaWiki, or creating Templates (or even sometimes, editing them!) so no, I don't have any immediate plans about that.
7: If a user contacts you saying that they're being harassed by another user who keeps swearing at them and asks you to block that user, how would you react?
A: I see exactly what you want to know about me. What type of admin am I gonna be etc. Well, I'm absolutely not a "heavy blocker". I always try to listen to both sides and to talk a lot before doing anything with my tools. In that example, I will first try to understand why this user keeps swearing. He might just have been harassed himself at first ! Then I would try to talk to him, making him understand that it's not the place to do those things.
8: If you find a user repeatedly uploads card images under the wrong filenames, how would you handle this?
A: First of all, I would tell him to read the Image Policy we have. I will of course correct his mistakes until he understands how to do it properly. If, at the end, I see that he keeps doing it and doesn't make any efforts, I will ask the opinion of a few collegues sysop before, if they agree, taking dispositions with short blocks
9: Two different quality images of the same print of a card keep getting uploaded over one another under the same filename and it develops into an edit war, what you do?
A: I would addopt the same behavior as question 7. Talk to both of them first, I will try to make understand why one is wrong (the one who tries to upload the bad quality image) and why his image doesn't fit the qualifications to be uploaded. If both images are of the same quality, I would explain to them that a PNG image, for example, is better for the wiki than an IMG, because of the size.
10: Similar to question 9, you upload an image, but someone replaces it with an image you feel is inferior quality, what would you do?
A: Everytime I am included in a edit conflict, I do not use my admin tools and I ask a collegue to be the judge. If he thinks that I am wrong, then i would of course accept my mistake.
11: What would you do if an article on an upcoming set that you've never heard of keeps getting blanked by an unregistered user and someone asks you to do something about it?
A: Sources is the key! If I've never heard of it, I will first take a look on the internet about it. If I keep finding nothing, I'll ask people for officials evidences about it.
12: If you log in and find two hours ago, an unregistered user vandalised 10 pages, would you block them? If so for how long and with what settings?
A: I would first cancel what he has done. Then, I'll look if it's the first time that this IP vandalised the wiki. If yes, I would do nothing. Why? Because after 2 hours, I would think that it was just a kid who wanted to have fun and got bored doing it. I would leave a mssage on his talk page and leave it. However, if the same IP do it again the same day or even a few days later, I will first ask a collegue or two, and I'll block for a short period.

Very good. I admit I wasn't expecting you to respond this well. You value communication over forcing what you think is right. This is exactly the etiquette administrators should have. -- Deltaneos (talk) 16:01, May 8, 2011 (UTC)

  • I am sure all he can do to put up the French Pictures within his limited times. After I learned that he has 2 years to stay here, I am sure it would be fine if he have an access to a tool that he could use to change the address of French Cards without any trouble, have to bugging Dino and/or Falzar to change them for him. He's a full of respect and honest person of the world. So I vote it here. --FredCat 15:34, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
  • Everything looks good to me... A technically-minded user seeking the tools to help with technical work, and I don't see any reason to keep him from having that access, so why the hell not? =) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:56, May 12, 2011 (UTC)

  • This request came very soon. I was expecting it to fail, followed maybe by a successful renomination later in time. But the user has good contributions, a use for adminship, doesn't cause trouble and judging by the above answers has a fair idea of how to handle conflict and act responsibly. I'll support. -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:38, May 18, 2011 (UTC)

  • I have yet to really look through Wilimut's contributions here or on the French wiki in any detail, but he seems to understand the image policy very well and clearly wants to help work on an up-till-now mostly neglected area of the wiki; having access to the tools would help him quite a bit in this. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:00, May 6, 2011 (UTC)
    • "All other characters should be omitted from the filename, including dashes (- – — - −)" per Image policy. That seems to be the only thing that is incorrect. However, every old image page incorrectly contains the "-", so I guess he's just following the patterns there. Apart from that extremely minor thing, everything else seems to be fine so I have no reasons to object. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 02:11, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
  • I want to thank everyone for your support, I will surely do my best for the month I have left (as i said, I will not be able to come here very often this summer but I'll do my best in June and later back in september!). Do i still have a few questions to answer? Wilimut TalkMail Paris, 15:06, May 22, 2011 (UTC)
