MediaWiki 1.19[edit]

When we upgrade to MediaWiki 1.19 (release notes), which should be before the end of July, all registered users should be able to move files. So when we get closer to that date, bare in mind it's just noratelimit and suppressredirect that this right will be giving users. -- Deltaneos (talk) 11:25, June 16, 2012 (UTC)

Wait, what version of MediaWiki did that happen in? I'm a bit scared of the idea, myself (but I suppose we'll just see how it goes; there's also the possibility that Wikia will configure our wiki so that editors still need the "mover" right to rename files, even without us asking for it)... ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:23, June 16, 2012 (UTC)
It was added in 1.19. Why are you worried about it? -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:46, June 16, 2012 (UTC)
I agreed with Dino - otherwise, we would have to undoing bunch of spamming articles that new user with Mover power had caused the trouble. It's better to limiting the move right to minimum and Admins, like Dino and you, Delta, can decide to trust the certain users to move the articles to correct stuffs, like myself and Joey (YamiWheeler) etc. --iFredCat 17:47, June 16, 2012 (UTC)
Delt: it's just the idea of any editor being able to move files unnerves me a bit; files aren't nearly as well watchlisted as other pages, which makes it quite a bit more likely that bad renames could escape notice for arbitrary lengths of time, especially if the mover doesn't bother to update links pointing to the file. On the other hand, this could just be me being worried over nothing, so whatever. =D ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:55, June 16, 2012 (UTC)
Still, I am against that idea of give all the rights to other Users, it's like you're give the God powers to Mortals and allow them to abusing them without enough trainings. If you allowed that then it's time to say good-bye to this wikia as it went down into the ruins. --iFredCat 18:01, June 16, 2012 (UTC)
I'm completely fine with the moving part, but the redirects left behind fill up Special:Unusedimages with used images. - Silver Glaceon @ 20:51, June 16, 2012 (UTC)
and I was just about to say that Special:Unusedimages is finally cleaned up from file redirects (tomorrow).
I use the move log quite a lot, so I should see all the files that aren't watchlisted as long as it's not way overcrowded for some reason.
Also, is there a way to filter the move log in the same way as filtering the recent changes or new pages lists? (So I can see changes from individual namespaces)

Not by any standard means. This has an entry on Bugzilla though. -- Deltaneos (talk) 01:32, June 17, 2012 (UTC)
Respect, but still I am against this. --iFredCat 01:39, June 17, 2012 (UTC)
It's no longer available to all registered users. I don't know if this is a bug or deliberate. -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:15, July 11, 2012 (UTC)
