World Championship 2016 Special: Yugi vs. Kaiba

Yugi vs. Kaiba was a scripted Duel that took place during the second day of the World Championship 2016 in Orlando, Florida around ?:?? PM on August 21, 2016. Dan Green and Eric Stuart reprised their roles as Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba, respectively.

Featured Duel: Yugi Muto vs. Seto Kaiba

Turn 1: Yugi Muto
Yugi activates "Graceful Charity" to draw 3 cards, then discard 2 cards ("Electromagnetic Turtle" and "Magician Navigation"). He then Normal Summons Template:Monster in Defense Position. Since "Magician's Rod" was Normal Summoned, its effect activates, allowing Yugi to add a Spell or Trap Card that lists "Dark Magician" in its text from his Deck to his hand.

He adds "Dark Magical Circle", which he subsequently activates to look at the top 3 cards of his deck and add "Dark Magician" or a Spell/Trap Card that lists "Dark Magician" in its text to his hand. He adds "Dark Magician" among the revealed cards and places the other two back on the top of his Deck. Yugi sets a card.

Turn 2: Seto Kaiba
Kaiba activates "Mausoleum of White". Since he controls no monsters, Kaiba Special Summons Template:Monster in Attack Position. He also Normal Summons Template:Monster in Attack Position. Kaiba activates the first effect of "Mausoleum of White" to target "Maiden" and send a "Blue-Eyes" monster from his Deck to the Graveyard to increase the targeted monster's ATK by 100 x the sent monster's Level. Kaiba sends "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" ("Maiden": 0 → 800/0). Since "Maiden of Eyes of Blue" was targeted for an attack or by a card effect, Kaiba can Special Summon a "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" from his hand, Deck, or Graveyard. He Special Summons Template:Monster from his Deck.

Yugi activates "Magical Dimension" since he controls a Spellcaster-Type monster to Tribute "Magician's Rod" and Special Summon Template:Monster from his hand in Attack Position. The last effect of "Magical Dimension" activates, destroying "Maiden with Eyes of Blue". The effect of "Dark Magical Circle" activates since "Dark Magician" was Special Summoned, banishing "Blue-Eyes White Dragon". Kaiba sets a card.

Turn 3: Yugi Muto
Yugi Normal Summons Template:Monster in Attack Position and subsequently activates its effect to tribute itself, and reveal the top five cards of his Deck, then send any revealed monster cards to the Graveyard. Yugi reveals "Spellbinding Circle", "Thousand Knives", "Seven Tools of the Bandit", "Mystic Box", and "Dark Illusion", so he discards nothing.

"Dark Magician" attacks "Kaiser Vorse Raider", but Kaiba activates "Shadow Spell" to stop the attack and reduce the ATK of "Dark Magician's" by 700. However, Yugi activates the effect of "Magician's Navigation" in his Graveyard since Kaiba activated a card or effect that targets a Spellcaster-Type monster Yugi controls, to banish itself from the Graveyard and negate the effect of "Shadow Spell" until the end of the turn. "Dark Magician" destroys "Kaiser Vorse Raider" (Kaiba: 4000 → 2400). The effect of "Kaiser Vorse Raider" activates since it was destroyed in battle, decreasing the ATK of the monster that destroyed it by 500 ("Dark Magician": 2500 → 2000/2000). Yugi sets two cards. During the End Phase, the effect of "Magician's Navigation" expires and "Dark Magician" loses 700 ATK due to "Shadow Spell" ("Dark Magician": 2000 → 1300/2000).

Turn 4: Seto Kaiba
Seto draws and subsequently activates "Pot of Greed" to draw 2 cards. He then Normal Summons Template:Monster in Attack Position. Kaiba activates "Silent Doom" to Special Summon a Normal Monster from his Graveyard in Defense Position, but it cannot attack. Kaiba Special Summons Template:Monster. He then activates the second effect of "Mausoleum of White" to Normal Summon an addition monster this turn as long as that monster is a Level 1 LIGHT Tuner monster. Kaiba Normal Summons Template:Monster in Attack Position.

Since "Sage" was Normal Summoned, Kaiba can add a Level 1 LIGHT Tuner monster with a different name from his Deck to his hand. He adds "The White Stone of Ancients". He then activates "Cards of Consonance" to discard a Dragon-Type Tuner with 1000 or less ATK and draw 2 cards. Kaiba discards "The White Stone of Ancients".

Kaiba uses "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" and "Sage with Eyes of Blue" to Synchro Summon Template:Monster in Attack Position. He also banishes "Kaiser Vorse Raider" and "Sage with Eyes of Blue" to Special Summon Template:Monster from his hand in Attack Position. Kaiba activates the effect of "Chaos Emperor Dragon" by paying 1000 life points to send all cards on the field and in both players' hands to the Graveyard (Kaiba: 3400 → 2400) then inflict 300 damage to Yugi for each card sent to the Graveyard, but Yugi activates the effect of "Clear Kuriboh" since Kaiba activated an effect that would inflict damage to him to discard itself and negate the effects of "Chaos Emperor Dragon".

"Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon" attacks "Dark Magician", and Yugi activates the effect of "Electromagnetic Turtle" to banish it from his Graveyard in an attempt to end Kaiba's battle phase but he activates the effect of "Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon" to negate the activation of the effect of "Electromagnetic Turtle". Yugi then activates "Spellbinding Circle" to stop "Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon's" attack and decrease its ATK by 700 ("Spirit Dragon": 2500 → 1800/3000). Since Yugi activated a Spell/Trap card during his opponent's turn, he Special Summons Template:Monster from his hand in Defense Position. Due to its own effect, the name of "Magician of Dark Illusion" is treated as "Dark Magician" while it is face-up on the field. This activates the effect of "Dark Magicial Circle", banishing "Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End".

"Alexandrite Dragon" attacks and destroys "Dark Magician" (Yugi: 4000 → 3300). During the End Phase, Kaiba activates the effect of "The White Stone of Ancients" since it was sent to the Graveyard this turn, allowing him to Special Summon a "Blue-Eyes" monster from his Deck. He Special Summons Template:Monster from his Deck in Attack Position.

Turn 5: Yugi Muto
Since he controls "Dark Magician", Yugi activates "Thousand Knives" to destroy a monster Kaiba controls. He chooses "Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon", but Kaiba activates the effect of "Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon" to Tribute itself and Special Summon a LIGHT Dragon-Type Synchro Monster from his Extra Deck in Defense Position with a different name, but it will be destroyed during the End Phase. Kaiba Special Summons Template:Monster in Defense Position. Since "Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon" was Special Summoned, its effect activates, preventing all Dragon-Type monsters that Kaiba currently controls from being targeted or destroyed by card effects until the end of the next turn.

Since Yugi activated a Spell Card, the effect of "Magician of Dark Illusion" activates, allowing Yugi to Special Summon Template:Monster from his Graveyard in Attack Position. This activates the effect of "Dark Magical Circle" to banish Kaiba's "Mausoleum of White". Yugi uses "Dark Magician" and "Magician of Dark Illusion" to Xyz Summon Template:Monster in Defense Position.

Yugi banishes "Magician's Rod" and "Clear Kuriboh" from his Graveyard to Special Summon Template:Monster from his hand in Attack Position.

"Black Luster Soldier" attacks and destroys "Alexandrite Dragon", and Kaiba activates "Negate Attack" in an attempt to negate the attack and Yugi's Battle Phase, but Yugi actiates "Seven Tools of the Bandit" to negate the activation of "Negate Attack" and destroy it by paying 1000 Life Points (3300 → 2300). "Black Luster Soldier" destroys "Alexandrite Dragon" (Kaiba: 2400 → 1400). Since "Black Luster Soldier" destroyed an opponent's monster in battle, its effect activates, allowing to make a second attack in a row. "Black Luster Soldier" attacks "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" and they are destroyed in a Double KO. Yugi sets a card.

During the End Phase, the effect of "Azure-Eyes" prevents it from being destroyed by the last effect of "Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon".

Turn 6: Seto Kaiba
During Kaiba's Standby Phase, the effect of "Azure-Eyes" activates, allowing him to Special Summon a Normal Monster from his Graveyard. He Special Summons Template:Monster in Attack Position. Kaiba then activates "Card of Demise" to draw until he has 5 cards in his hand, but he must discard his entire hand during his 5th Standby Phase after he activates "Card of Demise". He also activates "A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon" to return a Level 5 or higher Dragon-Type monster to his hand to his hand and destroy all Spell/Trap cards on the field. Kaiba returns "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" to his hand, and "Dark Magical Circle" and Yugi's set card are destroyed.

Kaiba activates "Trade-In" to discard a Level 8 monster and draw 2 cards. He discards "Blue-Eyes White Dragon". He activates "Pot of Desires" to banish the top 10 cards of his Deck face down and draw 2 cards. Kaiba activates "Silver's Cry" to Special Summon a Dragon-Type Normal Monster from his Graveyard. Kaiba Special Summons Template:Monster in Attack Position. He also activates "Swing of Memories" to Special Summon a Normal Monster from his Graveyard, but it will be destroyed during the End Phase. He Special Summons another Template:Monster in Attack Position. Lastly, Kaiba Normal Summons Template:Monster in Attack Position and switches "Azure-Eyes" to Attack Position.

The second "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" attacks "Ebon High Magician" but Yugi activates the effect of "Ebon High Magician" to detach an Xyz Material from it and activate a Spell/Trap card from his hand. He activates "Magic Cylinder" from his hand. "Magic Cylinder" negates the attack of "Blue-Eyes" and inflict damage to Kaiba equal to its current ATK, but Kaiba activates "Enemy Controller" to Tribute his attacking "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" and take control of "Ebon High Magician" until the end of the turn. Since its original target left the field, the effect of "Magic Cylinder" is negated. Yugi chains the effect of "Ebon High Magician" to detach its last Xyz Material and activate "Dark Illusion" to negate activation of "Enemy Controller" and destroy it since it targets a DARK monster he controls.

The first "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" attacks and destroys "Ebon High Magician". Since "Ebon High Magician" was sent from the field to the Graveyard, its effect activates, allowing Yugi to Special Summon a DARK Spellcaster-Type monster from his Deck or Graveyard. Yugi Special Summons Template:Monster in Attack Position. Due to the effect of "Dark Magician Girl", it gains 300 ATK for every "Dark Magician" and "Magician of Black Illusion" in any Graveyard. There is currently one ("Dark Magician Girl": 2000 → 2300/2000).

The last effect of "Ebon High Magician" activates, destroying "Luster Dragon". "Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon" attacks and destroys "Dark Magician Girl" (Yugi: 2300 → 2100). Kaiba sets two cards.

Turn 7: Yugi Muto
Yugi draws and subsequently activates "Card of Sanctity" to allow both players to draw until they have six cards in their hand. Since they have no cards in their hand, both Yugi and Kaiba draw 6 cards. Since Yugi drew "Palladium Oracle Mahad", he Special Summons Template:Monster in Attack Position. He then activates "Pot of Greed" to draw 2 cards. Next, Yugi activates "Pot of Desires" to banish the top 10 cards of his deck face-down and draw 2 cards.

Yugi activates "Magic Formula" to equip it to a Spellcaster-Type monster he controls and increase its ATK by 700. He equips it to "Mahad" ("Mahad": 2500 → 3200). Yugi also activates "Diffusion Wave-Motion" by paying 1000 Life Points to allow a Level 5 or higher Spellcaster-Type monster he controls to attack all monsters Kaiba controls once each, but other monsters Yugi controls cannot attack this turn (Yugi: 2100 → 1100). "Mahad" attacks and destroys "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" and "Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon" (Kaiba: 1400 → 1200 → 500). Yugi sets four cards.

Turn 8: Seto Kaiba
Kaiba activates the effect of "The White Stone of Ancients" in his Graveyard to banish itself and return a "Blue-Eyes" monster in his Graveyard to his hand. He returns "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", which he subsequently reveals to Special Summon Template:Monster from his hand in Attack Position. Due to the effect of "Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon", its name becomes "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" while it is on the field or in the Graveyard. Kaiba activates the effect of "Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon" to destroy one monster Yugi controls, but it cannot attack this turn. He destroys "Mahad". Since "Mahad" was destroyed, its effect activates, Special Summoning Template:Monster from his Graveyard in Attack Position. Because "Magic Formula" was sent from the field to the Graveyard, Yugi gains 1000 Life Points (Yugi: 1100 → 2100).

Kaiba activates "Return of the Dragon Lords" to Special Summon a Level 7 or 8 Dragon-Type monster from his Graveyard. He Special Summons Template:Monster in Attack Position and then activates "Polymerization" to fuse "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" and "Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon" on his field with the "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" in his hand to Fusion Summon Template:Monster in Attack Position.

"Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" attacks "Dark Magician", but Yugi activates "Magical Hats" to hide "Dark Magician" in one of four "Hats". A replay occurs and "Neo Blue-Eyes" attacks a hat, but it is empty. Kaiba activates the effect of "Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" to send a "Blue-Eyes" Fusion monster from his Extra Deck to the Graveyard and allow it to attack again. He sends "Blue-Eyes Twin Burst Dragon", but "Neo Blue-Eyes" attacks and destroys another empty hat. Kaiba activates the effect of "Neo Blue-Eyes" again by sending "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon", but it yet again attacks and destroys an empty hat.

Kaiba then activates "Ring of Destruction" to destroy "Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate" and inflict damage to both players equal to its ATK. He chains "Ring of Defense" to protect his own Life Points from "Ring of Destruction", but Yugi activates "Mystical Refpanel" to apply "Ring of Defense" to himself instead. Kaiba activates "De-Fusion" to return "Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" to the Extra Deck and Special Summon its Fusion Materials (3000/2500 for each) from his Graveyard in Attack Position, so the effect of "Ring of Destruction" is

negated as its original target left the field. Finally, Kaiba activates "Gift of the Mystical Elf" to gain 300 Life Points x the number of monsters currently on the field. There are currently four (Kaiba: 500 → 1700).

"Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon" attacks "Dark Magician" but Yugi activates "Mirror Force" in an attempt to destroy all of Kaiba's Attack Position monsters, but Kaiba banishes "Return of the Dragon Lords" from his Graveyard to prevent his monsters from being destroyed by "Mirror Force", so the attack continues and "Dark Magician" is destroyed (Yugi: 2100 → 1600). "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" attacks directly, but Yugi activates "Nutrient Z" to gain 4000 Life Points since he would take 3000 or more damage from a single attack (Yugi: 1600 → 5600), but the attack continues (Yugi: 5600 → 2600). The last "Blue-Eyes" attacks directly, but Yugi discards "Kuriboh" to reduce the battle damage from that attack zero.

During his Main Phase 2, Kaiba activates "Dragon's Mirror" to banish his three "Blue-Eyes" monsters and Fusion Summon Template:Monster in Attack Position. He sets one card.

Turn 9: Yugi Muto
Yugi activates "Monster Recovery" to return all cards he controls and in his hand (there are none), then draw 5 cards. Since Yugi added "Watapon" from his Deck to his hand with a card effect, he Special Summons Template:Monster from his hand in Defense Position. He activates "Premature Burial" by paying 800 Life Points (Yugi: 2600 → 1800) to Special Summon Template:Monster from his Graveyard in Attack Position and equip it with "Premature Burial". Yugi then activates "Upstart Goblin" to draw 1 card and increase Kaiba's Life Points by 1000 (Kaiba: 1700 → 2700). This activates the effect of "Magician of Dark Illusion", allowing Yugi to Special Summon Template:Monster from his Graveyard in Attack Position.

Yugi then Tributes "Magician of Dark Illusion", "Dark Magician", and "Watapon" to Tribute Summon Template:Monster in Attack Position. Due to the effect of "Slifer", it gains 1000 ATK and DEF for each card in Yugi's hand. He currently has two ("Slifer": ???/??? → 2000/2000). Yugi then activates "Double Spell" by discarding "Makiu the Magical Mist" ("Slifer": 2000/2000 → 1000/1000) to activate "Card of Demise" from Kaiba's Graveyard and draw until he has 5 cards in his hand, but he must discard in his hand during his 5th Standby Phase after he activated "Card of Demise" ("Slifer": 1000 → 5000).

"Slifer" attacks and destroys "Neo Blue-Eyes" (Kaiba: 2700 → 2200). Yugi sets one card ("Slifer": 5000/5000 → 4000/4000).

Turn 10: Seto Kaiba
Kaiba draws and subsequently activates "Lullaby of Obedience" by paying 1000 Life Points to declare the name of a monster, and if that monster is in Yugi's deck, he can add it to his hand. Kaiba declares "Obelisk the Tormentor" and Yugi adds it from his deck to Kaiba's hand (Kaiba: 2200 → 1200).

Kaiba activates his face-down "Return from the Different Dimension" to pay half his life points (Kaiba: 1200 -→ 600) and Special Summon as many of his banished monsters as possible, but they will be banished during the End Phase if they are still on the field. Kaiba Special Summons three "Blue-Eyes White Dragons" (3000/2500 for each), Template:Monster, and Template:Monster, but they all lose 2000 ATK due to the effect of "Slifer" (3000 → 1000/2500 for each).

Kaiba then Tributes his three "Blue-Eyes White Dragons" to Tribute Summon "Obelisk the Tormentor" (4000/4000) in Attack Position, but it loses 2000 ATK due to the effect of "Slifer" until the End Phase ("Obelisk": 4000 → 2000/4000).

During the Battle Phase, Kaiba activates the effect of "Obelisk" to Tribute "Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon" and "Chaos Emperor Dragon" to increase its ATK to Infinity until the End Phase ("Obelisk": 2000 → ∞/4000). "Obelisk" attacks "Slifer", but Yugi activates "Zero Gravity" to change the battle positions of all face-up monsters on the field. But since "Obelisk" is unaffected by Spell/Trap cards, only "Slifer" is changed to Defense Position. "Obelisk" destroys Slifer. During the End Phase, the effects of "Slifer" and "Obelisk" expire ("Obelisk": ∞/4000 → 4000/4000).

Turn 11: Yugi Muto
Yugi draws "The True Name" and subsequently activates it to predict the top card of his Deck. If he correct, he can add that card to his hand, and then either add 1 DIVINE monster from his Deck to his hand, or Special Summon it from his Deck. Otherwise, he must send the top card of his Deck to the Graveyard.

Yugi predicts "Monster Reborn" and reveals the top card of his deck to be "Monster Reborn", so it is added to his hand. He also adds "The Winged Dragon of Ra" from his Deck to his hand. Yugi activates "Monster Reborn" to Special Summon Template:Monster from his Graveyard in Attack Position.

Yugi also activates "Dark Magic Veil" to pay 1000 Life Points (Yugi: 1800 → 800) to Special Summon a DARK Spellcaster-Type monster from his hand or Graveyard. He Special Summon Template:Monster from his hand in Attack Position. Since "Dark Magician of Chaos" was Normal or Special Summoned, its effect activates, allowing Yugi to return a Spell Card in his Graveyard to his hand. He chooses "Monster Reborn", which he subsequently activates to Special Summon Template:Monster from his Graveyard.

Yugi then Tributes "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning", "Dark Magician of Chaos", and "Dark Magician" to Tribute Summon "The Winged Dragon of Ra" (????/????) in Attack Position. Since "Dark Magician of Chaos" left the field, it is banished. Due to the effect of "Ra", it gains ATK equal to the total ATK and DEF of the monsters Tributed for its Tribute Summon ("Ra": ?/? → 8300/7100). Yugi activates the second effect of "Ra" to pay all but 1 Life Points and transfer those points to "Ra's" ATK and DEF ("Ra": 8300/7100 → 9099/7899).

"The Winged Dragon of Ra" attacks and destroys "Obelisk the Tormentor" (Kaiba: 600 → 0).
