- In Egyptian mythology, Horus was the god of the sky and the son of Osiris and Isis. The sun and moon were believed to be his eyes. He was sometimes known as Khemwar, meaning "the great black one".
- "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" has a DARK counterpart "Dark Horus".
- "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" appears in the artwork of "Level Up!"
- This is one of the only two "LV" monsters to have a Dark counterpart, the other being "Armed Dragon LV7".
- This card shares a similar design with "The Creator" and "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys".
- "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8's" appearance most resembles a Dragon, while LV4 and LV6 resemble Winged Beasts.
- This cards appearance is very similar to "The Winged Dragon of Ra".
