"Battleguard", known as "Barbarian" (バーバリアン Bābarian) in the Japanese version, is an archetype used by Joey Wheeler in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime. Originally, one of the "Battleguards" belonged to Tristan Taylor, but he gave it to Joey before his Duel with Rex Raptor and he used them to defeat Rex's "Serpent Night Dragon" but were then destroyed by "Red-Eyes B. Dragon".

"Swamp Battleguard" and "Lava Battleguard" both gain 500 ATK when they are on the field at the same time. A Duelist using them is recommended to use either "Ultimate Offering" or "Double Summon" to get them both out on the same turn.
