The title "D/D/D" stands for Different Dimension Demon. Prepare to get a good taste of the power of kings who subjugate alternate planes.

— Declan Akaba on the D/D/D.

"D/D/D", known as DDD (ディーディーディー DīDīDī) in the English manga, is an sub-archetype of the "D/D" archetype used by Declan Akaba in the special Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V chapter and anime. The "D/D/D" monsters serve as the "bosses" of the "D/D" due to most of their gameplay focusing on their summoning.

Design

So far, every "D/D/D" monster has been named after a historical military leader, except "D/D/D Hell Armageddon the Cruel End Overlord", "D/D/D Twin Dawn King Kali Yuga", and "D/D/D Oblivion King Abyss Ragnarok", which are named after mythical final battles.

D/D/D Historical Leader/Battle
Blaze King Temujin Temujin (Genghis Khan)
Dragon King Pendragon Uther Pendragon OR Arthur Pendragon
Gale King Alexander Alexander III of Macedon
Cruel End King Armageddon Armageddon
Kaiser the Conqueror Kaiser
Marksman King Tell William Tell
Oblivion King Abyss Ragnarok and Wave Oblivion King Caesar Ragnarok Ragnarök
Oracle King d'Arc Joan of Arc
Rebellious King Leonidas Leonidas of Sparta
Twin Dawn King Kali Yuga Kali Yuga
Wave King Caesar and Wave Oblivion King Caesar Ragnarok Gaius Julius Caesar

Etymology

According to Declan Akaba, "D/D/D" is short for "Different Dimension Demon"[1] (ディファレント・ディメンション・デーモン Difarento Dimenshon Dēmon).[2] The "D/D/D" archetype marks the first time that monsters with the word "Demon" (or "Daemon") in their names are released in the TCG, with said word intact. However since the word "Demon" is simply represented in the card names via an acronym, the use of this word is comparatively subtle.
