"Darklord", known as "Fallen Angel" (てん使 Datenshi) in the Japanese version, are a series of DARK Fairy-Type monsters used by Midori Hibiki in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX manga. Much of their effects are focused on sending Darklords to the Graveyard and then Summoning them. Much of this archetype have been released as V Jump Magazine Promotional Cards.

With the release of Legendary Collection 2, "Darklord" Decks have become readily accessible, with a copy of each "Darklord" previously only available as a YCS prize available in each.

Play Style

"Darklord" monsters have a few things in common: in addition to being DARK Fairy-Type monsters, they all have high Levels (ranging from 5 to 10) and all of them have high ATK to match. Also, some of them, such as "Darklord Superbia", can swarm the field.

It's recommended to two or three copies of "Celestial Transformation" due to the fact that one can Summon and swarm the field with high Level Fairy-Type monsters this way.

A "Darklord" Deck focuses on sending DARK Fairy-Type monsters to the Graveyard then reviving them, however bringing back a monster especially a "Darklord" requires a more permanent solution rather than relying on one time use cards such as "Monster Reborn", "Call of the Haunted", "Ribbon of Rebirth", etc. It is recommended to run three copies of "Athena" or two copies of "The Dark Creator"; however the downside of using the effect of "The Dark Creator" is that a clear field is needed. One can send one "The Dark Creator" to the Graveyard, then summon "Phantom of Chaos" to copy its effect, though this is a solution that cannot be used for more than one turn. Athena is favored over "The Dark Creator" for this reason. "Athena" also works well with "Darklord Zerato", whose effect would cause it to destroy itself at the end of turn. Using the effect of "Athena" you can send "Zerato" to the Graveyard and then revive it, thus resetting "Zerato" and preventing it from being destroyed.

Darklord Athena

The aim of this deck is to get all 3 Darklord Superbia to the graveyard and 1 of your Athenas then have 1 Athena on the field, and use a grave summoning card (Such as Monster Reborn or Call of the Haunted) to get Superbia out, then by its effect, special summon the other Athena. Then use Athena 1's effect to tribute Athena 2; and special summon another Superbia. Use this Superbia's effect to Special Summon Athena 2 back to the field, then use Athena 2's effect on Athena 1 to repeat. You then end up with 3 Superbias and 2 Athenas on your field, and you will have dealt 3600 damage to your opponent via Athena's effect. Also, not to mention, you'll have 5 high star cards on your your field, all with 2600+ attack.

After having done this, if you have Archlord Kristya in your grave and Splendid Venus in your hand do this; Tribute 2 Darklord Superbias to Summon the Splendid Venus from your hand, then you have 4 monsters, and one space left. Use Athena to destroy - and resummon the last Superbia and bring Archlord Kristya along with it. By Athena, you will also inflict another 3600 damage to your opponent. Now you have 5 Monsters on the field.

  • Two Athena's with 2600 ATK.
  • Darklord Superbia with 2900 ATK.
  • Splendid Venus with 2800 ATK - and the effect that all non-fairies lose 500 ATK and DEF, and the users' spells and traps cannot be negated.
  • Archlord Kristya with 2800 ATK - and the effect that no one can Special Summon.

For a lockdown; also use Eradicator Epidemic Virus to tribute Superbia and choose "Spell" - to remove them using spells for a while, then activate Royal Decree - to stop them activating traps. And activate Sanctuary of the Sky so you take no battle damage in the unlikely event they do manage to fight back. If you do this... they won't be able to:

  • Special Summon Monsters
  • Normal Summon enough Monsters for a tribute (As you'd attack them all)
  • Negate your Spells and Traps with Monster effects (which are the only things that could)
  • Play Spell Cards
  • Activate Trap Cards
