"Obelisk The Progenitor", known in the Japanese version as "True Ancestor Obelisk" (真祖・オベリスク, Shinso Oberisuku), was used by Dark Yugi in Yu-Gi-Oh! R, when he played "Divine Evolution" on "The God of the Obelisk", also known as "Obelisk the Tormentor".[1]

"Obelisk the Progenitor" appearance differs from "The God of the Obelisk", bearing more of a resemblance to Obelisk's ancient Egyptian self. It appeared briefly and was mutually destroyed with "The Wicked Avatar". The mutual destruction occurred because "Divine Evolution" had increased the rank of "Obelisk" in the Divine Hierarchy, a manga-only concept which means that if God cards of equal ATK battle, ones of higher hierarchy ("The Winged Dragon of Ra" and "The Wicked Avatar") would destroy those of lower hierarchy.

"Obelisk The Progenitor" seems to look like the original art for "Obelisk the Tormentor" drawn by Kazuki Takahashi which was later used on the legal version of the card.
