Overseas Champions
The Overseas Champions are four duelists from four seperate branches of Duel Academy who debut in the third season. They were enrolled into the original Duel Academy in order to increase the school's expanding influence. The champions are the star duelists from their respective schools and therefore allowed to stay in the Obelisk Blue Dorm. These highly-skilled duelists serve as allies to Jaden Yuki and co., save for one, who eventually becomes a major antagonist of his own free will.
History
Arriving shortly after the start of the school year in the third season, they are introduced, along with Professor Thelonius Viper, to the students and faculty. Soon after, one the champions, Jesse Anderson, is selected by Viper to duel Jaden Yuki in a exhibition match, after which Viper introduces the concept of Survival Duels to the student body.
During the Survival Duels, the champions act on their own agendas, during which, Jim Crocodile Cook and Jesse hang out with Jaden and the others. Axel Brodie, during this time, does Viper's dirty work until Viper betrays him while another champion, Adrian Gecko, attempts to undermine Viper's operation. Eventually, the duels become too dangerous and Jaden and co. and Adrian work on different time-tables to take down Viper.
When Duel Academy is transported to another dimension, they assist Jaden and co., except for Adrian who sticks to his own agenda, into finding way to return home by using the power of Rainbow Dragon. During a duel with the mastermind behind the Martin Empire and the superior that Viper was working for, Yubel, Jesse finally uses Rainbow Dragon to restore Duel Academy to its original place.
They later assist Jaden and co. in their efforts to rescue Jesse who is still trapped in the alternate dimension. During this mission, Jim and Axel join forces with the few remaining main duelists to defeat Jaden, who had become the Supreme King after being possessed by Haou the Supreme King. Although Jim and Axel are successful, they are left incapacitated. After Haou's fall, Adrian establishes himself as an antagonist and intends to rule the alternate dimension while Jesse is possessed by Yubel.
Adrian later challanges Jesse for rule over all 12 dimensions, but is defeated after which, Yubel drains all of Adrian's dark energy from him and leaves him for dead. Eventually, after the defeat of Yubel, the champions are transported back to Duel Academy, save for Adrian, whose whereabouts are unknown.
The Overseas Champions
- Jesse Anderson - A mysterious boy who shares a deep bond with his cards, Jesse is the champion of the Northern branch.
- Adrian Gecko - The adopted son of the elite Gecko family, Adrian is the champion of the Eastern branch.
- Axel Brodie - A talented duelist and battle-hardened mercenary, Axel is the champion of the Western branch.
- Jim Crocodile Cook - A duelist and an expert geologist and paleontologist, Jim is the champion of the Southern branch.
