Photon Hand is a method of taking "Numbers" monsters from their owners. It is technological in origin and provided to Kaito Tenjo by Dr. Faker.[1]

Kaito using Photon Hand.

It lets the person obtain a "Number" card from a defeated opponent, similar to the way in which Astral does it, but by bitter means: stealing the opponent's soul. When someone uses Photon Hand, an illuminated hand and arm forms, stretching out and entering the fallen foe. The hand takes away the victim's soul who ages considerably and leaves them catatonic. Then the user can compress the "Numbers" attached to that soul. Kaito was told by Mr. Heartland that all "Number" holders are evil, so stealing their souls does not matter.[1]

Jin also possessed this ability, though how or from whom he acquired it is not known.[2]

Kaito claimed that he doesn't know what happens to the souls he takes.[3] Jin claimed that the "Numbers" consume their owner's hearts and drain their souls which would explain why Photon Hand must take the victim's soul.[2]

In episode 22, Kaito used the Photon Hand on Ryoga Kamishiro thinking he had a "Number", but noticed there were no "Numbers", then he absorbed the soul. Kaito said he doesn't like taking souls, so it is possible that the souls taken away cannot be returned, otherwise Kaito would have returned Ryoga's soul.
