Image Uploads

As per Yugipedia's image policy, please upload your images as PNG images. You can use this site if you don't know how: https://image.online-convert.com/convert-to-png MadRest (talkcontribs) 15:47, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

You've been uploading video game screenshots; it's better to save these directly as PNG rather than saving them as JPG and then converting to PNG. Alternatively, if they are saved as PNG when you take them, and you've been converting them to JPG before uploading, you can simply drop a step. In general, I recommend against converting JPG images to PNG since none of the information that was lost when the image was saved as or converted to JPG can be restored, and any compression artifacts from the JPG will be faithfully preserved in the PNG. It's always better to capture an original PNG image when possible. ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 22:04, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
I can replace most of those JPG format files with PNG ones easily enough, sure. Spirit Caller has a status screen where you can check your statistics against most opponents, and those come with a static screen that features opponent displays. However, that does not cover characters faced only once during the game, and replacing those files would need me to start the game from scratch. And I do not know when I will have the time to go through Spirit Caller again.
Modata (talkcontribs) 03:44, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
Don't worry too much about those one-off characters, then; we're currently (slowly) working through the games too, and we can get these whenever we finally reach Spirit Caller ourselves (though that will probably be some time off, so anyone who'd like to pick up Spirit Caller themselves to replace those images is more than welcome to). ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 09:42, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
I had enough time during the last few days to play through Spirit Caller enough to get to the Duelist in Disguise event. But rather than replace the picture in Beauregard's page silently, I decided to ask if these pictures are fine. If they are, I will continue taking the screenshots this way. https://i.imgur.com/fhUIKjb.png https://i.imgur.com/shc0fLC.png https://i.imgur.com/hlfyRXd.png Modata (talkcontribs) 21:52, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Those look fine to me, as long as they're being taken at the console's native resolution (it looks like Spirit Caller is an NDS title, so that should be 256x192), and as long as you don't upload the copies from Imgur (last I checked, Imgur applies lossy compression to all uploaded images, so using images from there isn't much better than just uploading JPEGs). ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 00:42, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Took those three screenshots again, now with proper resolution. https://i.imgur.com/cpUBAZ2.png https://i.imgur.com/ZCQHsXt.png https://i.imgur.com/NNRYusV.png As for the imgur part, I keep the original files on my computer. I simply used imgur to upload them for previewing here because I assumed picture testing could be seen as misusing file uploads for personal purposes. Modata (talkcontribs) 22:41, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
They look good! You can start uploading at your leisure; if you'd like to upload images in batches, you can use Special:MultipleUpload (pointing it out here since it isn't linked from the sidebar's toolbox). Let me know if you need help or have any questions. =) ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 14:37, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Image resolutions for uploads

I would like to know what is the desired resolution for screenshots of the PSP games.

Modata (talkcontribs) 15:54, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Whatever resolution the games run at natively. Checking the Wikipedia article, it looks like that's 480x272px. I've updated the image policy accordingly, too. ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 18:38, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Missing card texts from Tag Force 6

https://pastebin.com/kMdpua88 Wrote the text from the card "High and Low" in Tag Force 6. I also provided a translation. But my attempts at giving it a proper entry on my own did not go too well, so I have to leave that last part up to anyone else who might be up for it.

Modata (talkcontribs) 16:47, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

Aah, the current page needs renamed first. Poke me later and I can rename and create the TF06 page, or if you'd like I can rename the page now and you can have another go at creating it. =) ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 22:04, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
I think I will go with the second option, if possible. Modata (talkcontribs) 22:40, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Okay, I've renamed it and updated all links that were looking for the anime version specifically. Let me know if you need any help. =) ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 23:43, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
The navigation template for High and Low's pages is not connecting both of its card entries yet. (Unless that's because I accidentally deleted the redirect...) At any rate, thank you very much. I will be trying to provide the in-game text for all the game original cards introduced in Tag Force 6, as no game they were in was translated and several of their reported effects were incorrect. Modata (talkcontribs) 00:20, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
Nothing some null edits couldn't fix. =) (For the record, I started at the anime page, then null edited the main page, then finally the extra pages.)
No problem, I look forward to your additions and corrections. ^_^
ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 00:45, 9 July 2019 (UTC)
I have the card texts for the last few Tag Force 6 cards ("Red Nova", "Chain Resonator", "Mirror Resonator", "Zushin the Sleeping Giant", "Hand-Holding Genie" "Scrum Force", "T.G. Drill Fish", "T.G. Metal Skeleton", "Jormungardr the Nordic Serpent", "Fenrir the Nordic Wolf") but these cards do not have pages for their Tag Force 6 entries. It does not really matter if they get those or not, at any rate, because all of those cards have been released in the card game since and their effects stated at the time are mostly correct.
"Converging Wishes" does not show its navigation template. Modata (talkcontribs) 15:45, 10 July 2019 (UTC)
In those cases, the Tag Force 6 lores should be added directly to the pages using the tf06_lore parameter. "Red Nova" already has a Tag Force 6 lore provided, though it's the only one I looked at. Eventually Tag Force 6 (and the other Tag Force titles) will get its own card template, at which point all of these will be split out, but there's no telling when we'll actually get to these games, given we're working more-or-less chronologically currently (and are stalled out around DM7 right now).
That's a known issue; the navigation template never got quite hooked up properly in {{CardTable2}} for these cases. I've looked at it before, but it involves touching some hairy code, so I haven't actually gotten it done.

Formatting

I have begun to take a look at the character profiles in the Tag Force series. They can probably be added to each page at some point in time, but I am more concerned about how to format it. Modata (talkcontribs) 21:16, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

Discord

It occurred to me that I haven't asked this before, in spite of the discussions we've had here; would you be interested in joining the wiki's Discord server? We have a channel dedicated to our efforts to properly document video games, and you're more than welcome to contribute to any discussions there. =) ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 23:33, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Recovery

Going in circles over and over is what I have always done, so I guess this does not change things for me very much.

I will be filling up all the item gift tables for all characters in the Tag Force games again once the templates are set up to work again. Modata (talkcontribs) 00:46, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

The Card Converter page for Tag Force 2 has been properly set up, but it seems to have issues with the sheer amount of characters used. Modata (talkcontribs) 00:20, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
I think to fix this, {{Card converter list}} would have to be rewritten in Lua, as a Scribunto module; the template's current code is very simple and straightforward, and there aren't any obvious (to me, at least) optimizations. As a stopgap fix, the page could be split (e.g. by number of cards returned), and then remerged if/when the Lua rewrite is done. ディノ千?!☎ Dinoguy1000 02:57, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

Unused WDC text scripts

I have extracted all the text I could find in the yugi_str_msg.ydb file from the Japanese ROM of World Duel Carnival, and posted it in pastebin. https://pastebin.com/ybNRGcHq

While I do want to translate it, I cannot really make much progress with this for the time being. I am leaving it available for anyone who might be curious about it.

Most of the names referred to through concatenations can be found here.

I did notice some oddities in the file.
The text says SHAKE instead of SHARK, and MUJURO instead of ROKUJURO. This is consistent with unused sprites in the files, which also use those names.
The text has at least 1 concatenation that is not actually listed in the files. Given its context,《c004_3》is most likely meant to be シャーク, Shark. Modata (talkcontribs) 15:38, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

Found another unlisted concatenation:《c009_3》
It would correspond to character 《c009_0》, Takashi Todoroki, who is referred to almost exclusively as 委員長いいんちょう, so, class representative or class president.

I have given the yugi_str_word.ydb file a look as well.

https://pastebin.com/mnTS4mVk WRD_WAZA, names for the techniques listed in MSG_WAZA
https://pastebin.com/zznnAcKd WRD_SKILL, names for the skills listed in MSG_SKILL
https://pastebin.com/F5jKkQLr WRD_CHR, names for the characters that have any lines of dialogue.

MSG_WAZA, MSG_SKILL, WRD_WAZA and WRD_SKILL refer to more than 3000 techniques and skills that would have apparently been featured in an unused RPG side game. Due to the sheer amount of lines, I am not likely to translate them and transcribe them at any point.
But, after reading the names of many of them, the techniques seem to be mostly named after attacks from various monsters across the franchise.

WRD_CHR does not match exactly with the concatenations found in yugi_str_msg.ydb - namely, it does not list several characters whose names do have concatenations - but it is consistent with the story events themselves. Modata (talkcontribs)

Missing images

While setting up various pages, I saw the image links for the following images being red despite me having uploaded most/all of the relevant files before the data loss.

  • Tag Force 1 booster pack, Japanese release: Water of Life, Dragon Drive, Wave of the Future, Sadie's Soul
  • Tag Force 1 booster pack, Localized release: Dragon Drive, Midday Constellation (Noon Star)
  • Tag Force 2 booster pack, Japanese release: Vanilla Flavored
  • Tag Force 3 booster pack, Japanese release: Time to Gear Up, Creeping Darkness, Over the Rainbow (Japanese), A Dragon's Tale, Double Triple Destiny Draw

I asked about image files and I was told the images had all been saved, but these files are still missing, and I do not know how the situation is supposed to be handled. Modata (talkcontribs) 01:31, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

Found the image files for most of the Hidden Arsenal EX packs in Duel Transer.I made a poor job naming them. And the search functions are not quite good when it comes to finding files.

The Japanese Hidden Arsenal EX 1 image is the only one among those that is missing.

The images used for Tenzen Yanagi and Andre in Duel Transer are also missing. Modata (talkcontribs) 23:11, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
From World Duel Carnival, the files missing would be the eyes-focused cut-ins for Yuma Tsukumo, Caswell Francis and Cathy Katherine.

I think I can reupload pretty much all of these files if it is necessary. Modata (talkcontribs) 18:56, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Some more images I noticed are missing.

  • Duel Transer: Bruno Borrelli
  • World Championship 2006: Water Dragon, Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys, Elemental Hero Flame Wingman, Dark Magician, Exodia Necross, Dark Necrofear, Princess Pikeru
  • Spirit Caller: Ebon Magician Curran

Tag Force 4-6 Map Icons and Other Queries

Good day Modata, I am kind of new here in Yugipedia, please bare with me. By using UMDGEN and extraction tools, I cannot seem to find the small map icons for the characters (e.g. The ones on the map after you put a transmitter in TF5 or paying DP to Blister in TF4 for the characters' icons to appear in the overworld map.) May I ask which folder did you extract them from? I've tried title_menu_e.ehp, start_e.ehp and charalist.ehp but they were just the bustups from all characters. I also tried opening the other .gim files in the field folder but I cannot find them. I hope you saw this, and thank you :) AtriosClyde (talkcontribs) 15:11, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

  • The files are in field -> big_map -> 5ds

The icons are in the same files as the overworld maps in which the player selects a location to move to. Modata (talkcontribs) 15:38, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

I finally found them, thank you so much.AtriosClyde (talkcontribs) 16:15, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Quick question though, in Tag Force 2, from these past days, using shou's .ehp. I am at line 216 using notepad ++, is the posture.tmt.gz the right thing to type in the line in all-ptrs.txt? I managed to get his model working but not in a t-pose. Which NULL line from all-ptrs.txt and alletc-ptrs should I change and what should I put there to make the model do a t-pose? Here are some images from my experimenting. https://imgur.com/iJlyHSr https://imgur.com/ttmCwRg AtriosClyde (talkcontribs) 18:04, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, I cannot help there. I have no idea about it myself. Modata (talkcontribs) 19:04, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Good day again Modata, just saw your reply today. If it is ok to ask, what are the tools needed to extract the unused .ydc deck recipes from wc 2007, duel transer and duel carnival? I hope you read this. AtriosClyde (talkcontribs) 12:53, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

I managed to extract the .pac files for the ds games, but how do you extract the .ydc one by one? AtriosClyde (talkcontribs) 14:26, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

The files can be read directly by opening them with something like CrystalTile2.

Cards are listed one by one, in hexadecimal, with the second pair of bits written first.
If a card entry is 0A 19, the card is 190A in hexadecimal. Convert this number to decimal to get its index number.

The first 5 pairs of bits in the Deck files are not used for cards. I think they are used by the games to identify the file as a Deck.
Deck files separate the cards in the Main Deck from those in the Fusion/Extra Deck and those in the Side Deck by placing one invalid card entry between each of them. Modata (talkcontribs) 20:20, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

Yes, I am aware of that. But how do you extract the .ydc itself from the deck.pac file? AtriosClyde (talkcontribs) 22:35, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

Did you utilize or use a QuickBMS script? AtriosClyde (talkcontribs) 22:55, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

Select any files you want to extract, right click, select the "Export..." option, and choose a directory. There is also a File menu on the top left of the window with the file's information that has the same options. Modata (talkcontribs) 23:46, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

I managed to successfully extract them, thanks!AtriosClyde (talkcontribs) 01:02, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi MoData, mind if I ask where did you find the default_jf.ydc for World Championship 2008? I cannot seem to find it using CrystalTile2. AtriosClyde (talkcontribs) 07:43, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

It should be the second file listed in deck.pac Modata (talkcontribs) 12:37, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Tag Force 5D's gifts

Re-linking the pastebin links listing the items for the Tag Force 5D's games.

The first 50 items in each of the files, and their descriptions, are the Sandwiches from the first three games.

These are the items used in the Japanese versions of the games.

Then there's the localizations. All item descriptions were replaced with one or two words.

  • https://pastebin.com/td8c0xCx Item list for the English localizations of Tag Force 4. It is reused with no changes in Tag Force 5.
  • https://pastebin.com/Z6AEEYDW Item list for the French localization of Tag Force 4. It is reused with no changes in Tag Force 5.
  • https://pastebin.com/tZRKeFjA Item list for the German localization of Tag Force 4. It is reused with no changes in Tag Force 5.
  • https://pastebin.com/ATHJ2Yqz Item list for the Italian localization of Tag Force 4. The name of the item "Atlas Rising" is changed from "L'Ascesa di Atlas" in Tag Force 4 to "Il signore dei Duelli" in Tag Force 5.
  • https://pastebin.com/JpYFQBdj Item list for the Spanish localization of Tag Force 4. The name of the item "Atlas Rising" is changed from "Atlas del mundo" in Tag Force 4 to "El Señor de los Duelos" in Tag Force 5.

Modata (talkcontribs) 15:48, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

The pages for these items are now set up. I have not been able to set up a functional template to display the tables in the various characters' pages, however.

The GX games and items have the opposite situation. {{Tag Force sandwich responses}} is still functional, but the templates needed for the items' pages are not.

WDC card IDs

These are the internal IDs for the game original cards in World Duel Carnival. The rest of the cards are as they usually are.

3500 - Stray Cat
3501 - Monster Cat
3502 - Stray Cat Girl
3503 - Cat Girl
3504 - Cat Girl Magician
3505 - Inviting Cat
3506 - Cat World
3507 - Gold Coins for Cats
3508 - Antidote Nurse
3509 - Southern Stars
3510 - Devoted Love
3511 - Playmaker
3512 - Tomato in Tomato
3513 - Tomato King
3514 - Tomato Paradise
3515 - Tomato Token
3516 - Tribulldog
3517 - Sumo King Dog
3518 - Doubulldog
3519 - Dogking
3520 - Fire Lily
3521 - Ferocious Flora
3522 - Cosmos
3523 - Zen Garden
3524 - Indestructible Airship Hindenkraft
3525 - Unsinkable Titanica

The cards 3509, 3510, 3515, 3520, 3521, 3522, 3523, 3524 and 3525 did not have a tentative localized name in the Japanese ROM. The other cards use the same name they would use in the localized release.

None of the game original cards has its effect text translated to non-Japanese languages in the Japanese ROM.

3510 is not a playable card in any version of the game, and it cannot be used or obtained, but Anna does have a voiced line for it and it can be heard in the sound test after finishing her storyline.

Modata (talkcontribs) 11:51, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

Out of curiosity, are you absolutely sure about Devoted Love? Is the audio clip specifically tied to that ID? - XBrain130™エックスブレーン130」 04:32, 16 February 2024 (UTC)
It is tied to Card ID 3510 both in the file that assigns a sound file to a specific card in the file managing Anna's voice clips, and in the text line written in the file dedicated to duel subtitles. Modata (talkcontribs) 13:14, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Clarifications about in-game text

The vast majority of the Japanese text I have been adding onto pages for the last year was ripped directly from the game's own files.
Among other points, the games were not consistent about how the given names of the Earthbound Immortals were meant to be written in character profiles. Sometimes they were rendered in double-width characters, but not always. This was still not consistent even at the time of Tag Force 6. Modata (talkcontribs) 16:23, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

The name Midday Constellation (Noon Star) for the Booster Pack in the first Tag Force game is rendered $R正午(まひる)の$R星座(せいざ) in the Japanese script.
Among the names for various packs in the first game, this one is unique because it is set up to display hiragana over kanji, which no other name tries to do - but the game cannot actually display it in practice, so 正午の星座 is all it prints as the pack's name.
The localization, in turn, translates both readings separately and then writes the second reading after the first one between parenthesis. Modata (talkcontribs) 19:06, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
The Present Codes for World Duel Carnival are listed in the game's own files. Konami's official website and promotional material list the exact same Present Codes - same number of them, same codes. None of them was missed.

There are also no missing lines concerning character profiles. They are written line by line, one after the other, in a single massive chunk of text, once each, and the game prints them on-screen when necessary.

The page for the card "Fiendish Knight" should probably be renamed. Unused lines for IV name it ギミック・パペット-キラーナイト (Gimikku Papetto Kirā Naito, "Gimmick Puppet Killer Knight") so a tentative localized middle point between the names would be "Gimmick Puppet Fiendish Knight". Modata (talkcontribs) 14:33, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

Numinous Healer original artwork

The image file for the artwork of Numinous Healer in Tag Force 4 is not correct. All Japanese games from Tag Force 2 onwards use the same artwork as the international versions.

The very first Tag Force game does use the original artwork, and uses it for all releases, but that game does not have full-sized versions of artworks like the games after it do, so there is no way to visualize it clearly.

I would ask for this file to be renamed rather than deleted. It is not a bad representation of how the original card image would look if there were files for it. Modata (talkcontribs) 04:06, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Adding onto this, the artworks for "Weed Out" and "Injection Fairy Lily" do not change the red cross into hearts in the Japanese version of the first game, but they are changed in the localizations and in all versions of all future games. Modata (talkcontribs) 20:11, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
