Card Tips:Chain Material

  • NOTE: This card's effect does not perform a Fusion Summon. Rather, it only provides an alternate method of using Fusion Materials for a Fusion Summoning effect.
  • As a Trap Card, this card is normally best activated during the opponent's turn (rather than waiting 2 turns to activate this card during its controller's turn). Therefore, it works best with card effects that can Fusion Summon during the opponent's turn, such as those of "Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous", "Fusion Duplication", and "Necro Fusion".
    • "Quintet Magician" is a very good option to Fusion Summon during the opponent's turn, since its effect can potentially destroy all cards on the opponent's field (if 5 differently-named Fusion Materials were used), while its other effect can protect itself from the End Phase destruction of this Trap's effect.
      • "The First Darklord" is a similar disruptive option, requiring 3 DARK Fairy-Type monsters as Fusion Material, but not only requires using "Darklord Morningstar" as Fusion Material in order to activate its field-destroying effect, but also possesses no immunity to this Trap's End Phase destruction.
  • "Fusion Gate" works extremely well with this card, since this Trap's effect can be applied for any number of Fusion Summons during the turn it's activated, and that Field Spell has no restrictions on the number of times it can Fusion Summon in a single turn.
    • Since this combo enables many OTKs through its multiple "free" Fusion Summons, FTKs can also be enabled by using other card effects that allow this Trap to be activated the same turn it is Set or added to the hand, such as those of "Boogie Trap", "Labrynth Cooclock", "Makyura the Destructor", "Temple of the Kings", "Trap Tracks", and "Trap Trick".
    • "Elemental HERO Electrum" is a key card for enabling OTKs with this card, since it has an effect that returns all banished monsters to the Deck when it is Fusion Summoned (consequently only requiring the player to use 1 each of "Elemental HERO Avian", "Bubbleman", "Burstinatrix", and "Clayman", instead of multiple copies).
      • One example of an OTK is Fusion Summoning 2 copies of "Electrum" (returning its banished Fusion Materials to the Deck each time), before using them to Xyz Summon "Superdreadnought Rail Cannon Gustav Max", which detaches 1 copy of "Electrum" from itself to inflict 2000 damage to the opponent. Then, both it and the "Electrum" in the Graveyard should be used to Fusion Summon either "Elemental HERO Gaia" or "Elemental HERO The Shining", and that Fusion Monster should be fused with the other "Electrum" now in the Graveyard to Summon either "Gaia" or "The Shining" (again), before Fusion Summoning a 3rd copy of "Electrum", whose effect will not only return its own Fusion Materials to the Deck, but also the banished "Gustav Max", twin copies of "Electrum", and other "Elemental HERO" Fusion Monster. This process should be repeated until the opponent's LP becomes 0, with either the Fusion Summon of "Elemental HERO Core" or a Link Summon being used to remove excess Fusion Monsters from the field as needed.
      • Another OTK example is Fusion Summoning "Blaze Fenix, the Burning Bombardment Bird" and "Elemental HERO Nova Master" first, before Fusion Summoning "Electrum" (using its effect to return all banished cards into the Deck). "Blaze Fenix" should then use its effect to inflict damage to the opponent, before Fusion Summoning a second copy of "Blaze Fenix" and "Nova Master" each (by using the Fusion Monsters already on the field as Fusion Material), followed by a second copy of "Electrum", and then using the effect of the new "Blaze Fenix" again. This process should be repeated until the opponent's LP becomes 0.
    • These OTKs can be supplemented by Fusion Summoning "Imperion Magnum the Superconductive Battlebot" first, in order to stave off a disruptive card effect that could stop the OTK, such as "Effect Veiler", "Infinite Impermanence", or "PSY-Framegear Gamma". However, that monster can only negate 1 activation per turn, and requires including 2 practically unusable monsters in one's Deck to achieve this.
      • To a lesser extent, "Invoked Mechaba" can achieve the same thing, but additionally requires a discard of the same card type in order to negate a card effect activation. However, the presence and easy use of "Aleister the Invoker" by itself can be more reliable in non-OTK situations than the other option.
  • Even with just a single Fusion Summoning effect (such as "Polymerization" or the effect of "Proxy F Magician"), this Trap can still enable OTKs, due to the unlimited access it provides to Fusion Materials in the Deck and Graveyard.
  • This card can be potentially useful in a "Melodious" Deck, as the effect of "Elegy the Melodious Diva" can protect their Fusion Monsters from being destroyed by this Trap's effect.
    • Additionally, the effect of "Bloom Diva the Melodious Choir" (Summoned with the use of this Trap's effect) can protect itself from being destroyed during the End Phase.

Traditional Format[edit]

  • Before a Fusion Monster(s) Summoned by this effect is destroyed, it can be Tributed for the Tribute Summon of "The Tyrant Neptune", whose effects can adopt the Tributed monsters' ATK/DEF as well as the effects of 1 of those monsters.
