I just need some clarification on the Spell Card "Ancient Gear Fist" . Apparently my friend thinks that if I have a monster with higher ATK points that attacks one of his Face-up Attack Position monster's that is equipped with Ancient Gear Fist then he just loses damage but his monster is not destroyed and my monster is destroyed by the Anceint Gear Fist card effect. Is it true that his monster is not destroyed because of Ancient Gear Fist?

I know my monster is destroyed because of that card effect but his monster should be destroyed too because my attacking monster had higher attack.

  • The equipped monster is destroyed in battle, Ancient Gear Fist does not protect it from being destroyed as a result of battle. Bluedog 19:59, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
  • The opposing monster is ALWAYS destroyed by the effect of Ancient Gear Fist, unless if Damage Calcualtion is skipped by another Effect i.e. Magic Cylinder. This all means that when the equipped monster battles an opposing monster, the following take place:
  • You calculate damage: The player whose monster has the lowest ATK takes damage equal to the diference in ATK.
  • You resolve the battle: The monster with the lowest ATK is (usually) destroyed by battle at the end of this Battle.
  • The battle ends: If your monster was equipped with Ancient Gear Fist but had less ATK, Ancient Gear Fist's effect causes the opposing monster to be destroyed by its effect, then your monster is destroyed by battle, along with the equip card. If your monster was stronger, then the opposing monster is still destroyed by Ancient Gear Fist's effect, unless if it can't be destroyed by effects, in which case it is destroyed by battle. --Darth Covah 20:55, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

See the Battle Phase Breakdown. Remember that "Ancient Gear Fist" activates at the end of the Damage Step, which is after you inflict Battle Damage and send the monsters to the Graveyard:

  • Step 3: The monster battle.
  • Step 4: Inflict Battle Damage.
  • Step 5: The "Ancient Gear" monster is considered "destroyed".
  • Step 6: Send the "Ancient Gear" monster to the Graveyard. "Ancient Gear Fist" goes with it. After this, "Ancient Gear Fist" tries to activate - however, it must remain on the field to have an effect since it is an Equip Spell Card. So, the effect does not activate, and the other monster is not destroyed.

Card says any monster battles with it is destroyed at the end of the Damage Step... If he wants to destroy your monster (equipped with Ancient Gear Fist) he dies with it. simple. The opposing monster dies at the end of Damage Step not at the end of the turn OR the beginning of the damage step (therefore, if your monster was in attack mode, you would still lose LP [Assuming you have lower ATK]). Pardon? I'm not sure what you're saying. The monster equipped with "Ancient Gear Fist" must survive the battle in order for "Ancient Gear Fist" to destroy the other monster. --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 01:23, November 8, 2009 (UTC)
