Forum:Activating not in response

Say my opponent has 3 monsters on the field and 1 face down spell/ trap. He summons Junk Synchron and special summons a non-tuner monster so he now has 5 monsters on the field. I have Just Desserts face down. I wish to activate it and deal 2500 life points to my opponent, but I fear that my opponent has Torrential Tribute which he could chain to my Desserts if Desserts is activated in response to the summon, and thus cause there to be no monsters on the field by the time Desserts would resolve. My question is, can I activate my Desserts not in response to the summon of the non-tuner monster, but after the response window for the summon ends and before my opponent has a chance to synchro (so that if my opponent has Torrential Tribute, I would be guaranteed to inflict 2500 life points to him)?

More generally, keeping in mind there can only be one chain in response to a summon, can there be multiple chains after a monster is summoned and before my opponent can carry out any inherent actions such as Synchroing or summoning, with none of the chains being in response to the summon, or does the first chain have to be in response to the summon?

(Similarly, if my opponent declares an attack and I activate Book of Moon, can I say that I don't activate Book in response to the attack, or does it have to be considered in response to the attack because it is the first chain after the attack declaration?) 94.12.49.135 (talk) 07:13, December 5, 2011 (UTC)

Summoning, no.
Attacking, just ask to proceed to the next step that is after attack declaration.

So would there be any way for me to activate Desserts and be safe from Torrential? 94.12.49.135 (talk) 07:48, December 5, 2011 (UTC)

No. Life never have a safe way.-- (talkcontribs) 07:57, December 5, 2011 (UTC)
If the opponent summons a monster and passes priority; and you also don't do anything, priority is passed back (closing the summoning response window). If the opponent activates something now, or wants to proceed to the next Phase, then you can use Just Desserts without Torrential Tribute being chained.

What if my opponent wants to synchro summon after the summoning response window is closed; can I activate Desserts before he gets a chance to summon? 94.12.49.135 (talk) 08:08, December 5, 2011 (UTC)

As I said above; no. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 08:09, December 5, 2011 (UTC)
