Does the effect that says "FLIP: Place 1 A-Counter on 1 face-up monster on your opponent's side of the field. (If a monster with an A-Counter battles an "Alien" monster, it loses 300 ATK and DEF for each A-Counter during damage calculation only.) After this card has been flipped face-up, when it is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, draw 1 card".

I have heard the if it is face down and attacked. The draw 1 card effect does not activate.

Is this true?

bump. I think it would activate, going by the order things happen in the damage step (flip up, damage calculation, apply flip effects). However, the "draw one card" part of Alien Grey is a continuous effect, and so should happen. Can someone confirm ? Yummyjelly 22:59, December 31, 2009 (UTC)

yes, you put the counter on a monster then a few substeps later you draw. Falzar FZ 12:53, January 1, 2010 (UTC)

See the Breakdown of the Battle Phase. During the Damage Step, "Alien Grey" is flipped, and then it is destroyed by battle. It was destroyed by battle after it was flipped, so its card-drawing effect still activates.
Drawing a card is a Trigger Effect.
