Hi, a few players at my local hobby league run Lightsworn Decks, and i'm losing to each lightsworn player. Any advice or strategies in beating or fighting against lightsworns?

the main deck against them

is basically a macro D.D deck. i lost like every time against, i can never special summon a thing unless i get lucky at times.

Just running 3 Light-Imprisoning Mirror in your deck would also help. Romanovajax 08:55, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

From p3p3: Actually I beat them with 1 spirit reaper. (hope he doesn't summon the dog *destroy 1 monster*) Turn 1: I placed a spirit reaper face down a few traps

Turn 2: He uses heavery storm and summons a lightsworn which summons about 3 more and ended up with 5 lightsworns.(preparing a all out attack) he attacks but I'm not distroyed

Turn 2 end: he discards like 15 cards

Turn 3: nothing

Turn 4: nothing

c Turn 4 end: 15 more gone

By turn 6 he decked out lol

but if hed used 2 garoths you wouldve lost!

A few ideas that have crossed my mind:

  • Dimensional Stronghold Weapon prevents milling.
  • Playing Mill Decks against them can also do more milling than they need, resulting in them Decking Out faster.

dimensional fissure and macro cosmos definitely does it

Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer so they can't use Necro Gardna or Phantom of Chaos and to remove their Lightsworns from play. Teddy 06:05, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

  • Generally Lightsworns are A LOT quicker than Macro decks, and trounce them easily. The best way to beat them is either to build an Anti-Meta deck with things like Thunder King Rai-Oh, Royal Oppression, Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and the like to prevent Special Summons, or to run a Meta deck and side deck specific counters. D.D. Crow works wonders, and should be in everybody's Side (or Main) Deck. I play a Lightsworn deck myself, and I rarely lose to anything other than Gladiator Beasts, Anti-Meta and other Lightsworns, despite lots of Macro Monarchs in my meta.   • While yes i do run a Lightlord deck, i also run other decks. Remove from Play decks, Mill Decks that make the Lightlord user draw cards &/or mill at the same time, Decks that swarm faster then the Lightlord deck, D.D. Crows and Disappears also hurt Lightlord decks to an extent... you can also throw in Mask of Restricts, Gravity Binds, and i think Stall Decks & some burn decks can cripple/hurt Lightlord Decks... sadly a well built Frogger Deck can kill a Lightlord Deck ~MEOW~ Might of the BIRD Empire~~ 18:53, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Lightsworn isn't that hard to beat. If u side properly that is. I use cards like dimensional stronghold weapon, and light imprisoning mirror and skill drain. Also divine wrath is a great tech, because lightswarns revolve around effects. And it stops them from milling. Also if you play glads like i do, you definaely want to maximize the use of your chariots. Hope this helped!

I beat a couple Lightsworn decks with a beatdown deck. All it takes is the ability to defeat anything and everything they can place down. When they force you to mill your own deck, you kill their cards with the powerful monsters in the beatdown deck, of course, you need to have a back up plan which would be a line of traps for defense. I've found that using a Dragonic Knight against a Lightsworn deck is pretty good due to Lightsworn's abilities to destroy cards through their effects. A Random duelist who still runs a beatdown deck and win with it. Never use a beatdown against Blackwings or Gladiators.

I play glads, spellcasters, and a very random beatdown deck. With my Glads, I generally don't need to side-deck since I run 3 Retiari, but I have 3 Macros in my Side-deck just in case. Spellcasters and my Beatdown require Macro against Lightsworn, although my Beatdown has added help with Oppression included. Really, Light-Imprisoning, Macro, and or Dimension Fortress Weapon, along with a divine wrath (1-3, any number helps), and if you run glads like me, Chariots (as suggested before). You know all deck has its weakness and strength. Lightsworns are powerful monsters but they only weak if their owner is also weak in terms of building or constructing their deck. All duelist want their deck to be the best but there is no such thing as that view.

Beatdown with skill drain is really good. Graveyard removal is also good. Don't let JD in or your in major trouble. The sides above are good in tournament decks.

Stall, Stall, Stall

3 decks come to mind....

Burn because it'll go through their life points quick, Stall because lightsworns mill themselves so u can keep miling them, or an obvious choice, a deck out so the opponent is being milled from 2 areas, himself and his opponent

Iron Chains

I would have to say an Iron Chain deck they mill down the opponents deck so since Lightsworn already do that they are getting it twice as bad--Skinny_Boy 04:03, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

All depends...

If you can play a macro monarch deck and on the first turn, activate a dimensional fissure, they're going to be in for a long day... That is, unless they play imperial iron wall.

Letting them mill out faster will also be good, as luck plays a larger factor in lightsworn decks than in any other deck. I played against one in a small tourney in my area and one guy milled 2 judgment dragons due to jain's effect, simply hilarious.

Speaking of which, there was another guy who also uses a lightsworn deck. And he always had 2 JDs on his first draw. He won the tournament and someone was suspicious enough to check his deck. Turned out he thickened his JD by putting another 2 cards underneath the JD. And he got disqualified.

PS. Anyone tried to use catador on lightsworns?

Hmm, come to think of it, a Seigi no Mikata Deck might be good against Lightsworns... I'm not sure. From the looks of it their material isn't quite good, and seem more aligned against the Worms. --Gadjiltron 03:12, 10 August 2009 (UTC)


I used m lightsworn deck against marco cosmos twice in my local and won both first one 2-0 me and second 2-1 me i just put in royal decree and stuff from my deck and instead of me having disadvantage he was having a horrible time with none of his cards being removed i was shocked winning both players so easily

Try using cards like Dimensional Fissure, Macro Cosmos, Torrential Tribute, Bottomless Trap Hole and any other cards that would remove from play DaywalkerAA 12:55, November 30, 2009 (UTC)

Anything that removes from play would be the best bet. The new common card "Light of Destruction" is very anti-Sworn, so is paralyzing chain, Caius, d.d. warrior lady, d-prison, macro, & d-fissure are also good choices. I dont think so, if they are running 2 Judgement dragons, that thing will be ripping you to shreds at about turn 7 or 8 if its a well built deck. in fact Judgement dragon is usually how Lightsworn win, that celestia and yes, honest.

to all those who said RFP

the reason lightsworn win is cause of strong beatsticks, this removes the threat of JD but the deck will still run over your weak archetype unless you are playin macro monarchs. and they can still side in imperial iron wall, and thats your deck shut down entirely

this is possibly the only deck iron chain is good against :p

its all nice saying use this deck, use that deck but this isnt good advice. Phoenix25 gives good advice, he points out its strength and that you have to stop this part etc... I for one wouldnt get a new deck to beat lightsworns, I would want to customise my current deck.


Phoenix25, I agree entirely with you, to beat them (if its well built) you have to shut down the celestias JD's and honests. maybe side by order of the emperors for celestia,save your bottomless' for JD as he wont get to chain his effect and is henceforth removed and errr take honest on the chin like a champ, the card is a bitch but there is only 2 in there, you will just have to deal with it. and if you know hes got it, dont not attack, you need to make your opponent use it at somepoint, better on your beatstick than on the key card to your deck

and yes I know he wasnt the only one to make suggestions like this, but not many people did. dont take offense, or take me seriously...

I have had experience running both Macro Monarchs and Iron Chains, and to be blunt, they're not very effective against Lightsworns. Both have lost to them rather consistently - Macro Monarch had a lot of trouble replacing its main Grave-depleting engine after it got killed off by Lyla or Ryko. Iron Chains are also a tad too slow, despite the great boon they have given to the Milling theme. Sometimes Iron Chains have even helped the Lightsworns mill while they are not actively milling themselves. --Gadjiltron (talk • contribs) 05:15, September 1, 2010 (UTC)

Just use a top tier deck

Lightsworn is only tier 2, so a tier 1 deck should beat them like 7 times out of 10. Try using X-sabers, Gladiator Beasts, Blackwings, Infernities, Salvodad, Quickdraw, Machina or stun. Lock down the graveyard

The main reason that Lightsworn decks are so powerful is that they have strong searching power and pour cards into your graveyard to be used as fodder, if you play cards that seal off the graveyard, such as Necrovalley or The End of Anubis, their strength would be greatly diminished. Wow I guess I have no humor then. I don't laugh at people but I warn them. In fact I don't go at their level by using words that hurt other people.
