Is Kycoo's effect a permanent effect, after causing Battle Damage to their opponent?

  • ie: Kycoo has a 1800 attack, he attacks a face up attack position Shield Warrior, the damage is taken, and the player removes from play Black Rose Dragon and Red Dragon Archfiend now it is your turn you summon your Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer and attack a face up Pitch-Black Warwolf thus doing 200 pts of damage to life points, but their Kycoo is still on the field, thus not allowing you to remove from play any of their monsters. Then you play your Black Pendant and equip it to your Kycoo. They do their turn you do your turn and you use your Kycoo to attack their Kycoo, thus destroying it, can you then utilize your Kycoo's effect and remove from play monsters or even if their Kycoo is off the field does it's original effect stay in place.

When their Kycoo is removed from the field the effect is gone since the effect is only active as long as the monster is face-up on the field...if the effect were still working even though it is in the graveyard thats like saying "Even though you killed my Jinzo no trap cards can be activated because of his effect" ... its the same concept...a monster can only use an effect like that if it is face-up on the field. • Well, it's a little bit hard to understand but Kycoo's effect will not activate. The reason: Kycoo's effect activates during the damage step after battle damage are dealt to player's LP. See Breakdown of the Battle Phase. As you see, strong Kycoo's effect activates during "Sub-Step 5" and the destroyed Kycoo's continuous effect stops applying at "Sub-Step 6". During Sub-Step 5, the strong Kycoo with Black Pendant and the weaker Kycoo are both face-up on the field, and the weaker Kycoo's continuous effect applies as normal (until Sub-Step 6). So the strong Kycoo's effect cannot be activated. ATEMVEGETA (Talk) 20:20, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Really? thats kinda weird...I guess I never thought that much into it...I just figured when it leaves the field the effect could activate as normal then...guess I was wrong. Picasso 81189 20:22, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

First, the effect of "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer" will activate, but it will resolve without effect.
Second, in the TCG (until Konami says otherwise), it's as ATEMVEGETA said. Assuming you control the stronger copy, your "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer" will have its effect resolve without effect.
However, in the OCG, cards are destroyed immediately after Damage Calculation, which is at the beginning of Sub-Step 5 of the TCG Damage Step. When the effect of your "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer" activates, your opponent's "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer" is already destroyed, so its effect is no longer applied. Your "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer" will remove from play the two cards.

Darn those differences between OCG and TCG rulings! ATEMVEGETA (Talk) 18:24, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
