Preface and Overview[edit]

The following is going to be a work in progress for some time, I will edit it as I see fit, and the like. I have taken a look at some of the other user pages on this forum, and have attempted to compose something to that format.

I have used a variety of decks in my time playing this game, and even if I sweep 6 matches in a row with one of these decks, I am always looking to improve them. The following five decks are the current decks that I am using. These are the decks that as soon as I learn how to duel on line, I will be using on line. My email address is [email protected], I am assuming one has to have an email account to duel on line. If you see any improvements that can be made, send me an email with your suggestions.

My Deck Zone[edit]

I am going to keep a running total of Wins and Losses by total duels for fun for each individual deck. My tournament record will not be listed in this section. Side Deck is deck specific, it will be listed in the decklist if there is one. I have just got a new laptop, and realized how behind my deck zone is. I have diminished my deck totals to fewer, and will relist my current decks in the coming days. I only have two decks that are competitive. I also possess a traditional format deck, and a number of fun decks. When, I get a chance to list them all I will. I will not be keeping a win loss record any more. I have also changed my wife's deckzone. It to will be listed in the coming days. As always if you have any input or advice on my decklists, please enter a comment on my talk page. Thanks again.

My thoughts[edit]

As you can see, I like a variety of decks and strategies. And, I attempt to utilize my side deck to change the strategy of the deck, as needed.

As you can see, I do use proxy cards, though it took a bit of explaining for me to accept them. I am not sure how the rest of you feel about them, but as stated in the above section, I only use some and it is always only until I find a good deal on them on Ebay or other locations. I will continue to update the deck lists, accordingly.

My Girlfriend's Deck Zone and Information[edit]

I also got my girlfriend into this game, and helpled her make her deck. It follows in it's own zone. She really enjoys the game, and right now we are in the process of making her very own deck, all her thoughts with just a little bit of help for me. She wants to make another deck in addition to her Elemental Hero's but that one is going to be all her choices. As you can see it will be a work in progress for her.

My Son's Deck Zone[edit]

The following Deck lists are my son's deck, he also uses my Blackwing Deck, and other decks in the house, his personal favorite is his Morphtronic Deck, that he calls Transforming Terror. He also posseses what used to be my Dino Swarm Deck, he calls that Reptile Lords, along with his newly created Dragon Deck, which he calls Fire-Breathing Creatures. That deck is still being fine tuned, thus the record very rarely advancing. His Transforming Terror, we are also in the process of side boarding a complete switch in which he can change it from a Power Tool Dragon deck into a straight up Morphtronic deck depending on the situation.

A little about myself[edit]

First off, I am 33 years old, and I have been playing this game since it was created. In fact my first deck ever was Yughi's deck from the original anime, you know Dark Magician and so forth. My brother of whom is my twin and I were getting ready to go Golfing, but our tee time wasn't until later in the afternoon, we got up rather early for a Saturday Morning, and happened to turn on the television, the cartoon was on and we decided we'd have some breakfast and watch it. It was really interesting to us, so we watched all of the show, ended up having to change our tee time and went out and bought some cards at the local Wal-Mart. He grabbed Joey's starter deck and I grabbed Yughi's starter deck, we have been playing ever since.

Now there are some time's in our life where we had stopped and I have just recently come off one of those times here this past summer. My son came to visit me for a month this summer and he was really into the game. So, I dusted off the old cards bought some new ones, and then began playing with him. He is 10 years old. Well, one day after he had gone back to California to be with his mother, our power went out due to a wind storm, and we were without electricity for 3 days. With nothing else to do as my girlfriend and I were on vacation from work, I asked if she wanted to learn how to play and she said yes. We have been dueling ever since. At this time the Synchro Monsters were rather new and I didn't understand them so we played with older cards. But she wanted a deck of her own rather then a quick one I threw together for her, and we purchased the 5D's starter deck for her. We had just been introduced to the newest craze Synchro Monsters thus a new love of the game was formed, and we have been playing that way ever since.

Passing the game on[edit]

Having taught my girlfriend how to play, I figured that it would be good to have some other opponents. I asked around and found out that my girlfriend's soon to be brother in law, and one of my best friends had played the card game Magic the Gathering. Knowing this, I figured that he might be on board to learn how to play this game. It is rather hard to explain to a lot of people here in the states that a 33 year old man enjoys a kid's game. He said he would be interested, and I taught him, he in turn taught his fiance. Now, we have taught my girlfriend's soon to be son in law. So we run regular tournaments here at the house.

My Tournament Expierence[edit]

  • Well, I entered my first tournament on Saturday, and didn't fare as well as I thought, only winning one out of four matches. I used my Underworld Minions deck, thinking that was the best deck that I have. I beat another Zombie Deck, but didn't fare to well against a plant deck, a gadget deck, even though the Gadget Deck was the only one to sweep me. I did enjoy myself at the tournament, and will attempt to go back again. It was a learning expierence for me.
  • Well, this past Saturday 6/20/09 my son and I went to a tournament. This time it was for a Gold Series Box tournament, for the prize. I ran my CB deck, and didn't fare that well, though I didn't get swept at all, and at time had people puzzled. Big thanks to Darth Covah, for helping me out with that deck build. The best part of the tournament was that all the guys that were there really helped my son out with his Morphtronic Deck and helped us put together a semi-competitive Blackwing deck. We are missing some key cards but still looking for them.
  • I participated in my first Sneak Peek tournament at my local shop, for Ancient Prophecy didn't do as well as I had hoped to but was still a great expierence for me. Not a fan of people who buy into a Sneak Peek more than once, very unfair if you ask me. But, then again I don't get to make the rules.
  • Well, this past week it was a tournament for a box of Ancient Prophecy booster packs. I played my Blackwings, and didn't fare as well as I thought I would. I did beat a Macro Deck. I only got swept in 2 of my losses to a Lightsworn, and a Blackwing Deck. My third loss came against a Stardust Assault Mode Deck, and I did take one of three duels. Following the tournament I reconstructed my Zombie Deck, and Blackwing Deck with the help of the guys in the tournament.
  • This past Saturday, October 24, 2009 I participated in yet another tournament, this time I brought my brother with me, that was his first tournament. He didn't fare to well, though I did. I maintained a winning record, winning 3 of my five matches. I didn't win the tourney, though once more I used my Blackwings. I swept a reptile deck. Took 1 of 3 vs a Destiny Hero Diva deck. Swept a Stardust Assault Mode Deck, took 2 of 3 vs a Six Samurai deck and took 1 of 3 vs Vayu Turbo deck. My Blackwings are still in need of some Vayu's before it's ready for regional or above tourneys.
  • I entered a tournament in my local Hobby Leauge, on the 7th of November. Regional Tournaments are in the area on the 8th so I played alot of decks that were going to regionals. I used my Crystal Aggression deck that has been remade. I won 2 matches and lost 2 matches, I did not get swept, and swept one of my opponents. The opponent I swept played a deck that utilized alot of the new Gemini Support from the new Structure Deck. I lost to two of my friends, one of which played a Blackwing Deck, and another who played a Lightwing deck, as he likes to call it. Though it was a typical Blacksworn. The combos that I pulled off with that CB deck were amazing the changes that I made from the last time I used it in a tournament were that, I went away from the Rainbow Dragon variant, and added in Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder variant. The other deck that I beat was a Diva DAD turbo, a deck that the person used to qualify for the Nationals in the last Regionals. Overall a very good day for me in my tournament mode.
  • I got my rear end handed to me on the 21 of November, in a tournament I played my plant deck and and didn't win a duel, I think that I just had some real bad draws that I couldn't get away from. Thought I did make some changes to my plants, so it should be better next time around.
  • I played in another tournament at my local Hobby Leauge this past Saturday, and this time my girlfriend played as well. I think that she got nervous and made some wrong moves. She didn't do so well, though she did beat me and a kid that didn't know how to play the game that well. His deck was a mish mosh of cards, and I was able to help him afterwards turn his deck into a Dark Magician/Blue-Eyes White Dragon hybrid. I was happy to help him it was my chance to return the favor. My deck was my assault mode deck, and boy did I get beat, though I was only able to win one match and that was against a defense oriented burn deck. I lost one duel to him. My four losses were against a Blackwing Deck, an X-Saber deck both of which I took one duel in. I got swept by Fortune Ladies deck, due to a complete lack of a hand. And I lost my match against my girlfriend who played a DH Diamond Dude Turbo deck, one in which I was able to help her build. My girlfriend only won 2 matches again due to nervousness as it was her first time playing someone besides me and my family. Her 3 losses came against a Morphtronic Deck, in part to a 10,000 LP OTK. That was a sweep of her, she also got swept by a DAD Reload Deck, and she took one duel and almost a second duel against a Diva Turbo Deck. All in All she did okay for her first time at a tournament.
  • We played in another tournament today, at our local Hobby Leauge. I attempted to run my Power Insect Deck, with the EBG Uru, again it was a bad draw day, as whenever I had the cards to set off my combos, something didn't work. I have decided to change it up a bit. Theresa, my Girlfriend played her revamped DH Diamond Dude Turbo, I don't know what to call it any longer it can be found above on her Deck Zone, it's name is Dark Mistress. She won one match, against a Macro Monarch deck, and a few duels in the process. She got swept by a Destiny Hero GB Deck, a Stardust Assault Mode Deck and. She won a duel against a X Saber Deck, thus giving her three wins on the day. I didn't win a duel let alone a match. I lost to the Macro Monarchs, a Diva Zombie, DAD Reload, and a Hopeless Dragon deck. Not a good day for me, but fun and revealing none the less. I get beat alot, but I still love to play the different deck types that I see at these tournaments. It also gives me a chance to play something other then Meta which I only use for tournaments with bigger prizes.
  • I played in another local tourney on 1/16/10. I had modified my Blackwing Deck into a Smashwing deck, at the advice of Aki here on this forum, so I ran it in the tourney, even though I don't like to run any form of Meta in local tourneys where there is no serious prize, ie we are playing for packs. I didn't do to bad, I went 2 wins and 2 Losses in the rounds. Not to bad, but not good either. I was swept by a Macro Monarch deck and took 1 duel in a match against that darn DAD Reload deck, but in one of my Losses against DAD Reload, I had my opponent on the ropes, down to 300 lp before he came back to win. I usually get crushed so that was a good match. I swept a Beatdown deck without getting touched. And also swept against a Rock Control/Exodia deck though it was a tough duel in one of them, I had 1800 lp left and he had 3800 lp, and I came back. Not bad, I had a good time.
  • Another tourney was played, it was pretty decent, I had a winning record up until my last two duels. I used my Morphtronic Monarch build, it was inspired by the Macro Monarch build I got swept by at my last tourney. Just didn't want to have the same concept. So the tourney started out bad, my first opponent used an Absolute Zero build, so I thought here I go again it trounced me in two straight duels. I then played a Dragon Beat Down focusing on Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, he beat me in the first duel I didn't draw for crap, and then I caught him cheating it was a just a little kid so I didn't call him on it, but I did pay better attention to him in the next two duels and beat him by 6100 life points in each duel. Justice was served. I then played another kid, with an Elemental Hero Zombie Hybrid. I swept that match losing 400 lp in the first duel and only 100 lp in the 2nd duel. We moved onto the Semis and I faced a Gadget Oppresion Deck, that swept me as well, I have never done well against any form of a Gadget Deck. My last match in the tourney was against a hybrid Gladiator Wings deck. It was pretty good, though it could have been better with some more firepower from the Blackwing Synchro Monsters. I don't understand the Gladiator Beast Archetype that whole tagging thing gets me confused, though it was a close duel I got swept. I have to come up with a Side Deck for my Monarchs. At the very least after the tourney, the guy playing the Gadget Oppresion helped me revamp my Monarchs, saying that the Morphtronics were slowing it down even more so than normal. He helped me turn it into a Monarch build, that I call Cyber Kings. It is on this page above in my Deck Zone. The Side Deck for it is in progress it's going to be a Macro Monarch Toolbox when I am through with it. One of these days, I will find myself in the Finals.
  • Well, it was another tournament day, and another day that didn't do well. I had to start off against a Absolute Zero build, it was horrible, I used my Monarch build, a different version then the last time. The tournament made me decide to make a Macro Monarchs deck, something that I didn't want to do. At any rate, that wasn't the only deck that swept me, in the tourney, I was also swept by a Vayu Turbo, I swept a Zombie Reactor Deck, not something that was hard, it was poorly constructed. I did take one of three duels from a Stardust Dragon Assault Mode deck. Overall not so good, but fun none the less. Next Week is a box tourney, though I probably won't go to it.
  • Another tourney, and a decent showing this time, I went 2 and 2 in my matches, getting swept by a Yubel deck, because of 2 misplays, and taking 1 out of 3 duels against an X-Saber deck. I think that I would have won my match against the Yubel deck, had I not made some stupid misplays. But, that is part of the game. I had the X Sabers on the ropes. But, he was able to gain control of the field, due to some bad draws for me. And he won barely. I also played against an Exodia deck, and swept it, I also swept a different Monarch build. Not great but not bad either.
  • Good tournament for me on Saturday, I played my Swarm of Darkness, to get ready for Regionals this coming Saturday, I swept a Gadget Oppression, and a Beast Beat-down, lost to two different GB decks, though against one of them, I took one of three duels, coming close to taking a second, I needed 400 more lifepoints to last till my next turn. If I had it, I would have won the match. The other one swept me, and I didn't have a side deck to counter, so I made one for GB's, I should be okay come regionals.
  • It has been a while, since I updated this but it has been two tournaments since, last entry. The first one on 4/3/10 was a box tournament, in which I took third. One of my teammates took first. I played my Blackwings, and got out swarmed by another Blackwing Deck. I went 3 and 1 on the tourney. Beating my team captain's Ninja Simorgh deck, and one of our closest friends Krystia Sworn deck. The other deck that I beat I can't remember what it was. My only loss coming against that Blackwing deck. I won't put the other tournament down, as it was a basic playtest tourney for my son's newest deck.

Regional and Above Tournaments[edit]

I haven't participated in any as of yet, but am attempting to go to one in October, here in Pa. Below will be my comments, and remarks in regards to it. Along with the records of my two decks that will be geared towards it. I didn't get to the regionals here in Pa, as I had to work that weekend, but have worked on my decks further. And am in the process of finalizing my decks for those tournaments.

  • It was an eight round tournament, here in the area this past Saturday, 3/27/10. I had a blast, it was my first regional tourney, and I placed 82 out of 169 or so. The top 32 were going to get Nat Invites, so I didn't get that but I did do better then alot of people on my team and from my local. It was a good day for me. Out of the 32 invites given, my local shop got 3 of the invites. It was pretty cool, I played against a variety of decks, with my blackwings and did ok for my first regional event. I played against two different type of Monarch Decks, both of which I beat. I played an Inca deck, or an Oracle of the Sun deck not sure which one it actually was, but I beat that one in 2 of three matches. Against the Monarch decks, I swept one and took two of three against the other one. The fourth deck that I defeated was a Yubels deck, that was a tough match, so I had to side against it but ended up taking the last 2 duels in the match. The four decks that beat me, were a GB deck, which I has sided against though I only saw one of the side cards in the entire match, that was Nobleman of Extermination I hit his Torrential Tribute with it, so that cost me mine as well. I also sided in 3 Mirror of Oaths though I didn't see any of them in the entire match. I lost against a Gadget Machina deck, which seemed to be used by alot of people, I did side against it, two System Down saw them both, and used them, but couldn't do anything else against it. I did take one of three duels against it. The other two matches I lost was against a Zombie World deck, and a Morphtronics deck, I was swept by both of those. Zombie World shut me down, as I drew for crap, and he got the card both times. The Morphtronics decks swept me as well. In the first duel, he Double Power Tool Dragon me for 7100 lp in first turn, couldn't do anything about that. The second duel, I had him to 450 lp and he luck sacked for game, that is where I feel that he either set his deck, or was just really lucky. He had Celfon on field against my Armed Wing, a Swords of Revealing Light and a Black Whirlwind. He used Celfon's effect and summoned Slingen, kicked Celfon to destroy my armed wing, junk boxed celfon used effect for Slingen kicked it again to get my Swords, junk boxed Celfon again got third slingen kicked celfon to destroy my Whirlwind. Hit the third junk box for celfon again got radion, and hit me for 8800 lp in one turn. I feel that I was cheated but not sure of it. I had a blast and intend to go back again.

Win/Loss Record for Regional and higher tournaments:

Swarm of Darkness: 4 Wins 4 Loss

Various Thoughts on General Things[edit]

I have come up with a very good way to proxy cards, and think that it is not a bad temporary fix. I have discussed it with various people, and some of them agree with me. Some such as my brother not so much, I am hoping to get him to change his mind, as he can't really compete at the moment, though he does play a Lightsworns Deck and apparently rather well. He is also thinking about playing a Gladiator Beast Deck as well. It is a very interesting method, to do proxy cards. I do as one normally would, until I get the actual cards. Two of my opponents utilize full proxy decks, as they can't afford to keep up with the newer packs. One is about to get married, the other is a full time college student.

Tag Dueling[edit]

I utilized this forum to print up the Tag Dueling Rules. As I had stated previously we run regular tournaments here at the house, with all of the people that I have taught to play this game, it is difficult to get everyone involved into duels. We have now moved the game onto my brother's daughters and his step daughter as well. I have made all three of them decks, since my nieces are only here for the summer. And we ran some tag duels, I almost enjoy tag dueling as much as regular dueling. I have only done two Tag Dueling matches one of which I will finish tonight when I go visit my brother again. The other of which I teamed with my niece Audrey and swept my son's Power Tool Deck and my brother's plant/insect burn deck. I used my Zombie Deck. My brother and I teamed up with my plant deck and his plant Burn/Token deck to play my girlfriend's Elemental Hero Deck teamed with my other niece Brittany's Rock/Warrior Control Deck. We have both won a duel, and are going to play the rubber duel tonight. The final duel was played, and they had control of the field from the get go. My Heavy Storm and my Lightning Vortex were at the bottom of the deck. We lost but oh well, it was still fun.

I really enjoy Tag Dueling and am going to look for some tournaments for that as well. I will keep a total of Wins and Losses for each deck in a Tag Duel as well.
