Forum:Scrap goblin, reese ice mistress rulings

Hi, I want to clear up the rulings on a few card effects. First is the tuner monster card Scrap Goblin whose effect states "This card cannot be destroyed by battle. If this face-up Defense Position card is selected as an attack target, destroy this card at the end of the Battle Phase. If this card is destroyed by the effect of a "Scrap" card and sent to the Graveyard, you can select 1 "Scrap" monster in your Graveyard, except "Scrap Goblin" and add it to your hand". My question about this card is, if the monster is in face-up attack position and my opponent attack it, according to its effect it wont be destroyed but does damage calculation apply or not because it doesn't state it in the effect? Also if I have Scrap Goblin in face down defense position and my opponent attacks it, is it destroyed or not since its effect states it can only be destroyed if its targeted in face-up attack position? The second monster card Reese The Ice Mistress whose effect states "This card cannot be destroyed by battle with a Level 4 or higher monster". Again does this mean that if a level 4 of higher monster attacks Reese does damage calculation apply as normal eventhough it doesn't state it on the card?

Please help!

1) Unless stated otherwise, Damage Calculation is always calculated as normal. It's just common sense in the game.

2) If it is selected as an attack target in face-down Defense Position, it will not be destroyed by its own effect.-- HHTurtle Talk   10:51, November 9, 2010 (UTC)

1) I dont think damage is calculated as normal actually, since on other monster cards that cannot be destroyed by battle it actually says that Damage Calculation is calculated as normal, e.g. Marshmallon, but therefore since it doesn't say so on this card then I would take it that Damage Calculation is not calculated because it self destructs anyway if its targeted in face up defence position.

Marshmallon is an old card, back when Konami thought it should be stated clearly on the card. Now, it is common sense that if there is nothing that states otherwise, Damage Calculation is applied as normal. You can take Spirit Reaper as an example. Otherwise, that line had to be printed on every single card. BTW, Scrap Goblin only destroys itself after it is selected as an attack target at the end of the Battle Phase, which means that it is still on the field for the whole Damage Step. (Read the card). See Breakdown of the Battle Phase for more info.-- HHTurtle Talk   13:31, November 9, 2010 (UTC)

Ok I'l sign in! But onw last thing, I dont understand how Scrap Goblin isn't destroyed if its attacked when in face down defense position. I thought that battle damage is calculated first and then at the end the card effect is applied!

The effect of Scrap Goblin that will destroy it, is based on it being targeted for an attack. When it is face down, it doesn't have this effect. By the time it's face up, the attack declaration has already ended, and is now in the damage step, so the effect to destroy never activates.-Resk (talkcontribs) 11:18, November 10, 2010 (UTC)
