Forum:Various Questions

After dueling with some friends today, some questions arose:

  • Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode:
    • If you have this card face-up and you attack directly with it, and the opponent activates Necro Gardna's effect and you don't respond, and they then Chain Mirror Force, can you then use SD/AM's effect to negate Mirror Force? I think you can, but my friend disagreed :-S.
    • If you attack directly with a SD/AM on an empty field, and the opponent activates Gorz the Emissary of Darkness' effect from their hand, can you use SD/AM's effect to negate the effect? Will Gorz be sent to the Graveyard? Can you negate his token-generating effect or is it part of the effect that SS him? Will Gorz be sent to the Grave then? Does Gorz's effect of SSing himself start a chain and, if the token-generating effect is seperate from the SSing effect, does that start a chain too?
    • Can SD/AM's negation effect be activated in the Damage Step? Can it be activated during the damage calculation sub-step? If the opponent drops Honest during damage calculation, can SD/AM negate it?
    • I activate Lightning Vortex on my opponent's Stardust Dragon, and he Chains his Assault Mode Activate. He then claims that SD/AM (who is SSed first due to reverse chain resolution) can interrupt the chain's resolution and negate Lightning Vortex! I KNOW for a fact this cannot be done, since you cannot interrupt a Chain. But how better can I explain that?
    • If I use the negation effects of 2 SD/AMs during my turn while I have Card of Safe Return face up, how many cards can I draw during the End Phase if I SS both SD/AMs?

That's all for now. --Darth Covah (Talk | Contribs) 15:03, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

1) You can. There is no reason why you cannot.
2) The effect of "Gorz the Emissary of Darkness" to Summon itself and the effect to Special Summon a Token are two different effects, and both activate and start Chains. "Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode" can negate either one. If you negate the first, then "Gorz the Emissary of Darkness" will be destroyed and sent from the hand to the Graveyard.
3) The effect of "Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode" is a Quick Effect that negates activations, so it can be activated during the Damage Step, at any time, including during Damage Calculation. Note that if "Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode" is one of the battling monsters, and if you Tribute him before or during Damage Calculation, then the attack stops (no damage is inflicted, no monster is destroyed by battle, etc).
4) Hm, the rulebook doesn't say that you can or cannnot. Try arguing that the rulebook does not specifically say that you can, so you cannot? There's an OCG ruling specifically saying that you cannot, if that helps. Or Card Rulings:Bait Doll, which has,
You cannot chain to a Trap Card that was forced to activate by the effect of "Bait Doll" since an existing Chain is in the middle of resolving.
That should be close enough?
5) The effects of the two copies of "Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode" do not form a Chain a single Chain - each activates separately. So you Special Summon one copy, then you can draw, then you Special Summon the other copy, then you can draw again.

  • Thanks a million Deus! It seems that although I was in doubt about those rulings, I didn't make a rulings mistake when playing and such questions arose (i.e. I followed the correct ruling although I was unsure whether it was correct or not). Maybe I shouldn't doubt my knowledge of rulings that much. But thanks anyway, I at least know that if I am ever in doubt about a ruling, there are people that know the correct answer (you know who you are ;-)). --Darth Covah (Talk | Contribs) 20:33, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
