Forum:Yami Marik Changes Deck + When-Mai or Yami Bakura?

When did Yami Marik change his deck from the way his alter ego, Marik, had it? Was it before his duel with Mai Valentine, or did he leave it alone for her and change it afterwards, before facing the team of Yami Bakura and the real Marik's soul?

Also, which cards did Yami Marik take out of Marik's original deck, and which cards were put in instead? (Of course he didn't take out Ra, and never would, but the other cards...) So after researching, Yami Marik left Marik's original deck alone for Mai Valentine and changed it before his 2nd duel against Yami Bakura. Can someone please, for fanfic, separately say all of which cards where used in the different duels? ......or you can look at the actual episode articles and compare what cards were and were not used instead of having us do it for you. That's what the featured cards bit at the bottom of each episode is there for.

Also I'm fairly certain the deck was modified before Mai's duel, dunno when THAT was changed but i do recall it saying as much.

Yeah, I forgot about the cards at the bottom of pages. But man, I wish it was modified after Mai's duel, because that would make my different stories easier to write, instead of adding different cards that I choose out of the blue and deciding which ones to keep in the real Marik's deck in certain stories that don't feature Yami Marik and his modified deck. But yeah, it would seem like sadistic Yami Marik to immediately change the deck to a torture theme.

But you really have seen the page saying the deck was modified before his 1st duel with Mai? Who could have changed that without you administrators checking to make sure that quote I just posted from the page was correct?Mistystar31 (talk • contribs) 04:48, April 1, 2015 (UTC)

We aren't omniscient and it isn't exactly a hot article so it wouldn't be hard for it to go unnoticed

Also I'm not an administrator, just a guy that checks the recent activity page more often them most.

Of course I could also be mistaken, but I do not recall anything stating that it was unchanged, only that it was changed before the Bakura duel

That said, now that I actually think about it, the deck he used vs mai doesn't really match up. He used Jam breeding machine for one...why would he use that if he was going to revive Ra instead?..............actually why would you use that in general, you'd get a 1500 ATK God. Normal Marik didn't know of the One turn kill effect so he would have tried tributing it......

Well either way, it makes sense but i still don't recall anything stating it wasn't changed then.

I know, as you said, that Yami Marik did change Marik's original deck, at least before his duel with Yami Bakura. However, what is your opinion of it being changed before Mai's duel, even though you don't remember anything saying his deck had already been changed?

When I think about it, I think that quote I posted on this discussion of it being changed prior to his 2nd duel had been changed itself. I think I recall there was a different phrase/quote stating that we never saw Marik's original deck because his alter ego changed it right away, but this somehow got changed, like you originally said. He directly states in the manga "when their personalities changed" that he modified the deck, and since he used some of his torture cards during the Duel with Mai it was probably before then. As for his use of Jam Breeding Machine in the anime, I figured that the effect of Ra to tribute monsters and gain their attack points might have been part of its ability to gain the attack points of its sacrifices: so use the Breeding Machine to summon it and then keep powering it up. Though this contrasts with my theory that Marik never knew about ra's extra effects since he never Summoned it himself and only learned of the sacrifice one when the rare hunters tested the fakes...

Arrgh! It'll be even harder for some stories now about the regular Marik's deck that, if changed before his duel with Mai, will never have been seen! But yeah, he probably did change it before his 1st duel. Not everything from the manga to the anime is of course the same, like Mr. Ishtar hating Rishid's ritual scar and Marik originally wearing Yami Marik's clothes in only the manga, whereas his scar wasn't mentioned by Mr. Ishtar and Marik wore different clothes as "Namu" at first. But you're most likely correct.

I have another question: when Mai regained her memories because she returned from the Shadow Realm/saved from death in Japanese after Yami Yugi won the tournament, did Marik (even though it was his alter ego forgetting them) remember Strings and Arkana?Mistystar31 (talk • contribs) 06:28, April 1, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. I might have other questions later, of course, for you, to build up a deck. I don't want it to be too much like Yami, Kaiba, or Joey's decks (especially his "luck" cards), with Dark Magician, Red-Eyes, or Blue-Eyes, but of course would have some of the regular Magic and Trap cards, like Monster Reborn, Spellbinding Circle, and Swords of Revealing Light. But I'll also need better ones, especially Monster cards, for certain characters' decks, especially ones that would be good for normal Marik's unaltered deck, both when he was against and allied with Yami.
