Result - unsuccessful
Unsuccessful. Good user. Did well in this request, but a sightlier larger support margin is needed. -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:09, February 7, 2012 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve as an administrator. Please answer the following four questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
A:I intend to take part in deleting nonsense/vandalism pages that tend to get created often, as well as removing harassment/direct insults towards other users. I would also Block users who are being very disruptive/disrespectful towards other users (only if they continue to do so, after being politely asked to stop harassing). Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 16:31, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
2. What do you consider to be your best contributions, and why?
A:My best contributions tend to be fixing grammar (since there tends to be lots of spelling errors), as well as reverting users who vandalize, or make unsourced edits, etc. I also remove harassment, because it does not solve anything, and only provokes users into childish name calling, or flaming (as well as even resorting to vandalism). Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 16:31, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A:Yes I have. I tended to revert most IP users Here and Here, due to them removing information, and in the beginning, got into somewhat of an edit war when it came to Leo's. However I learned my lesson after Fred explained that to put something like that in, you had to discussion it first. Some disagreed with it being put in, while others didn't have a problem with it (well, Leo's talk page that is, but I still removed the speculation, and re-worded it, as well as Luna's). Anytime I reverted a user, I try to direct them to the talk page most of the time, or ask them nicely not to remove information from them or other articles. In the future, I plan to do the same, while doing what "Golden Key" did, which is ask them if they feel something needs re-wording, to mention it on the talk page. If they won't listen no matter what, I would ask another admin if a one-week semi-protect is necessary or not.
I was also in a somewhat conflict with a user on "I hate Inzecter" forums. When I removed his comment (which was very harassing), I told him why, which is that he cannot insult other users like that. When he put his comment back, he cursed at me, and added another rude comment to the page. Rather then retort, I simply went to the Admin Noticeboard to notify an admin of the problem. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 16:31, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
4. Do you regularly contribute to any other wikis? Are you an administrator or bureaucrat on any of them, or do you have accounts with similar roles on forums, blogs, etc.? Could you provide links, if so?
A:I'm not an admin or bureaucrat, but I have contributed to Wikipedia.org a few times before, when it came to changing a portion of the 5ds characters (while pointing out how some sentences were redundant and unnecessary). Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 16:31, January 11, 2012 (UTC)

Questions form Deltaneos

-- Deltaneos (talk) 00:55, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

5. If you are an admin and someone, who feels they are being bullied by another user, asks you to block the bully, what would you do?

A:I would first check his edits. I can't block him until I know what he's done. Now I'm sure the user who is telling me that they're being bullied, is telling the truth, but I still need to see the persons edits first, then determine if a block is needed or not (I would want to try reasoning with the user who is bullying). If the user in question, is being very disruptive and rude, even after I try to get him to calm down, then I would ask another admin if they could join the conversation, before considering a block. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 04:45, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

6. Can you give any non-obvious examples of how adminship can be misused? Particularly where the admin is not aware they are misusing it.

A:The only one that comes to mind, would be blocking a user, simply because of a misunderstanding, or because you thought they did something wrong, when they may not have. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 04:45, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

7. What kind of pages can an admin delete on the spot where the problem is not spam, vandalism, trolling or obviously false info?

A:One would be an article that was made (perhaps a character one), but had no discussion on it in terms of if it should stay, and only one contributer even contributed at all. A page image that is uploaded by a user to their user page (and doesn't follow the image policy). Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 04:45, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

8. What are the criteria for a short block (a few days or weeks), a long block (a few months) and an infinite block?

A:I'm going to take a crack at this, because I'm not sure (I might not answer this correctly actually). A short block would be for a few days. A long block would be about 2-4 months. An indefinite block lasts as long as you have it (meaning it will last until you lift it). Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 04:45, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

That was a bit badly worded on my behalf. I meant when would it be okay to block people for those amounts of time. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:06, January 13, 2012 (UTC)
A:(Had to separate this in two) Generally that depends on what the user has done. A one week block would be if they're inserting false information, or "removing all content from page" repeatedly. If they keep doing it, after having already been blocked once, then the block would be increased a little more (in this case, two weeks). Month blocks come down to a few things. The first would be just how bad are the things that user is doing (is it just typical vandalism that keeps happening so many times, or is it to the point that they're renaming pages, and calling them "This monster sucks"). Another thing to consider, is if all of their edits are only vandalism/nonsense only (the user might have some good edits, and only now is causing trouble. Another thing to consider, is even if it looks like nonsense, it may actually be a different language user putting an official Yu-Gi-Oh article).

A use for an indefinite block (going to use an example, since this one already is infinite blocked) would be if they have a very unacceptable user name like "[1]" (not all user names are this bad, and therefore may not have to be blocked, rather a simple respond on their talk page that the name they have isn't proper, and should change it). An indefinite block may also be issued if that users name is the exact same as yours (one reason being that you cannot impersonate another user). Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 16:54, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

9. There have been a rake of unsuccessful requests for adminship before this one and a number of active users who have never had a request made. How do you feel better fit for the role than these users?

A:Truthfully I don't feel that way. I think there are tons of those users, who're better suited then me. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 04:45, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

10. You mentioned that you want to be able to block users who are harassing others if they continue after being politely asked to stop. What would you say when politely asking them to stop? How do you think they will react?

A:I would first simply say something like "Please do not insult other users. I understand that you may be upset, but don't attack others". If the user lashes out saying they can do what ever they want (or something similar), I would once again try to get them to stop. If they refuse to listen, I would ask one of the admins if they could join the discussion. If that same user overreacts, and is removing content from pages and vandalizing, I would block them for a week, in order to stop anymore wrong behavior, as well as prevent any possible edit wars. If I get irritated because of something the user said, I would take some time to cool off, and then think carefully about what I'm going to say to him. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 04:45, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

11. Are there any examples in the past of conflicts, where you have tried to help cool things down?

A:Yes, I responded on Falzar's page a while back, because Fred wanted a user banned. I tried to explain to Fred that not only was a permanent ban not needed, but firing back at the user was not going to help, as it would only provoke them. Although I said one month (should have said a week or two) I was trying to change Fred's mind when it came to wanting the user fully banned. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 04:45, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

Support

  • I accepted him being an Admin due to his highly action and very positive. Rarely swear back with polite clean up. I approve this part. --FredCat 16:34, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
  • Well, I don't think I have any reasons to oppose (except for that one below which can be fixed easily). -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 23:04, January 13, 2012 (UTC)
  • I never saw your name around here since I wasn't coming for a few months so I've let me a couple of days to think about your request, watch your edits and I must admit that I pretty much like your style. That's a yes from France buddy. Wilimut TalkMail Paris, 00:41, January 14, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose

  • Shardsilver is a nice guy and has come a long way since they first started editing here. Edits are fine, but I'm not seeing anything majorly outstanding and I usually prefer to see a few thousand in admin candidates. For any reason someone gives for wanting to become an admin, I like to see that the user has a history in that area and really need the adminship to go further. Since deleting/blocking spam/vandalism is a common answer to the first question and something nearly everyone can do, I think you'd need something to really make yourself stand out if it's your main reason. Users who are being disrespectful to other users is a very delicate area. While they shouldn't be behaving that way, there's usually some underlying problem that needs to be fixed and blocking should be a last resort. I'm not keen on adminship being given specifically for someone to block in these cases. Overall, my reason for opposing is I'd like to see more experience. -- Deltaneos (talk) 00:38, January 16, 2012 (UTC)
I can understand that, and I agree that I need to improve. I mean let's face it, there are many better experienced people than me (I just help out when I can). Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 02:25, January 16, 2012 (UTC)
  • Shardsilver has indeed greatly improved as an editor, and he seems pleasant. However, his reasons for wanting to become an Admin seem a little weak. The greatest bulk of vandalism comes from unregistered users, who usually stop on their own and thus don't need a block. His desire to get a user banned based solely on their username also makes me think his standards for who would deserve a block might be a little low. If those are the main things he needs the Admin tools for, I see him becoming bored very quickly. But he should definitely consider trying again in the future if he doesn't obtain the position this time. Golden Key (talkcontribs) 13:09, January 18, 2012 (UTC)

Other comments

I know I wasn't quite on your side at the beginning of the Leo and Luna discussions you mentioned. I'm sorry if I gave you a hard time.

I'm nitpicking a bit and I don't think this should affect the result of this request. You mentioned that you like to correct grammar and spelling mistakes, but made a few on this request: "grammer", "beggining", "dissagreed", "Anytime I", "necessery", "harassive", "sweared", "bureacrat", "reduntent", "unecessery". Since it is easy for all of us to mistype words even when we do know the correct spelling, which I'm sure you did for most of those, most Internet browsers have a built-in spell check to pick up most of those and underline them. I'm not sure if Internet Explorer does. I think it's worthwhile for almost anyone who types a lot online to set this up. Let me know if you'd like help setting one up. -- Deltaneos (talk) 00:55, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

"missunderstanding", "seperate", "simaler", "overeacts".
If it's IE, the only one I've heard of someone using is "speckie"; for spell checking.
-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 23:04, January 13, 2012 (UTC)
I once caught his "dissapear", and went to remind him about it. --FredCat 23:14, January 13, 2012 (UTC)
