Three Rulers, known as Demon Commander (
Etymology[edit]
The Japanese name of each Ruler is a pun, being a cross of a Japanese verb that reflects its effect and the English word "Ruler". An example is "Yameruler the Demon Commander" ("Yamiruler the Dark Delayer")", with "Yameru" meaning "to cease", which is reflected in its effect to stop the Summon of Level 7 or higher monsters. The English names instead incorporate the meaning into more straightforward titles that still expressed each Ruler's individual effect; for example, "Yameru" becomes "Delayer", which stops Summoning; "Kimeru" becomes "Raider", which can attack directly; and "Semeru" becomes "Summoner", which Special Summons.

There are also three other Demon Commanders that are not part of the original trio of Rulers. Each of them has a Japanese word prefix attached to their names, which forms a new word when appended with the word "Mashō".

All members of the series, bar "Yamiluna" and "Kesshin", received Fusion Monster upgrades by fusing with "Needlkyrie the Celestial Seamstress".
Playing style[edit]
Three Rulers Decks generally utilize control playstyles, supporting 0 ATK monsters, and focus on changing the battle positions of monsters on both sides of the field to keep control of the Duel and destroy the opponent's monsters.
