- Combined with cards like "Hand Destruction", "Dark World Dealings" and "Into the Void", it gives Gusto decks some badly needed card drawing support as well as a faster method for Special Summoning high level Gusto monsters. "Card Destruction" also works, but is not recommended against Banish, Mermail, Dark World and Fabled decks.
- If multiple copies of this card are in the hand when used with "Into the Void" and "Daigusto Sphreez" is also on the field, it is possible to set up a field of Gusto monsters to stall your opponent with (either searcher monsters or high ATK monsters like "Reeze, Whirlwind of Gusto" or "Windaar, Sage of Gusto") or surprise with "Battle Mania" on their next Standby Phase.
- Note that only one Gusto Griffin can be activated per turn, so even if you have multiples in hand, you can only Special Summon once. Ignore the "tip" above, whoever made it must be stupid.
- Use this with "One for One" to Special Summon "Gusto Egul", then by its effect, Special Summon "Reeze, Whirlwind of Gusto" from your Deck for a quick Synchro Summon of "Daigusto Sphreez". Plus you can get an extra Normal Summon to summon any Gusto searcher from the Graveyard (using the effect of "Daigusto Sphreeze") or your hand.
- Since this card activates even when used as the cost for a card effect, use it to strengthen your deck defenses with support such as "Prime Material Dragon", "Divine Wrath", "Destruction Jammer", "Karma Cut" and "Phoenix Wing Wind Blast" and then as a new chain afterwards Special Summon a key Gusto monster.
- In a mixed theme deck it also works well with "Snipe Hunter", "Tempest Magician" and "Alchemic Magician".
- "Lady Ninja Yae" works well with this card. However, since "Lady Ninja Yae" isn't a Gusto monster, you can't use her to Synchro Summon any "Daigusto" monsters (as they usually need non-Tuner "Gusto" monsters) even though you can Special Summon a Gusto Tuner monster by the effect of "Gusto Griffin".
- Fortunately, "Gusto Griffin" is also a Gusto monster so it can be used for another purpose, such as with "Junk Synchron" for Synchro Summoning "Daigusto Gulldos".
- Also, since "Gusto Griffin" is also Winged Beast-type, you can choose to Synchro Summon "Vortex the Whirlwind" instead, which later can grant access to Winda-Gulldo-Egul defense line; or Tribute it for "Icarus Attack".
Traditional Format
- This card can be searched via "Witch of the Black Forest" or "Last Will".
