- This is a possible reference to Joey Wheeler, as both monsters are Fusion Material for one of his signature cards, "Flame Swordsman".
- The "Heart of the Underdog" references the running gag that Joey is subjected to throughout the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime: its Japanese name, "Bonkotsu no Iji" features the word "bonkotsu", which Seto Kaiba uses to insult Joey.
