An Alternate Rare card is a special variety of card that closely resembles, and was initially thought to be, a Prismatic Secret Rare, where the entire card outside of the card text box, empty Link Arrows, and portions of the artwork are covered by a holographic foil pattern that follows a horizontal parallel pattern. It was first introduced in Rising Rampage, with no indication prior to the physical release of the set that it existed. Each Main Series Booster Pack that has featured Alternate Rares has featured four; one of a Rare, Super Rare, Ultra Rare, and Secret Rare card.

This rarity name has not been officially stated by Konami, but any discussion of them has used the term "alternate foil".[1] They were initially called Prismatic Secret Rares by the community and vendors due to their close resemblance and lack of an official name at the point, despite being confirmed to not be Prismatic Secret Rares.
