I am also known as Wuzh. I sometimes go by LianYi when Wuzh is taken or when I feel like it.

Writing on whatever yugioh topics I feel like. Mostly just gameplay stuff though.

Old card text jank

  • DEF: formerly 防守力 Fángshǒulì on the old Chinese-printed Japanese "Dark Magician" and "Blue-Eyes White Dragon"

Likely reified general terms

i.e.: Yugipedia has adopted these non-ruling general dictionary terms to be used in specific definitions, meaning that their definitions now differ from the official YGO TCG and the general English YGO community.

This is a result of YGO's absolute refusal to implement keywords, and the search category system's nature of being hyper-specific. It is understandable, but still should be clarified in their definition pages.

  • Archetype ("theme" synonym → "effect-supported name string card group")
  • Support (cards that synergize with strategies → "cards specifying certain properties")

Weird Observations

Some from CN OCG, some from TCG

  • Archetypal Revolt
  • Archetypal Terrortop
  • Archetypal Star/Time Pendulumgraph (1 generates advantage, 1 causes disruption)
  • Archetypal Stratos
  • Archetypal Summoner Monk
  • Archetypal Honest
  • Archetypal Denglong
  • Archetypal "Wolfbark on Summon" (needs more investigation)

Effect-connected retrains of DM/GX pile decks (probably incomplete):

Individual Archetype/Series definitions; as in what defines the creation/discovery of individual card themes as used on Yugipedia.

  • Archetype definitions: When archetype name string supporting effects are used. (e.g.: "take 1 'Branded' card" and effects like it define "Branded")
  • Series definitions: When a card theme is observed. This is a subjective process, but can be supported through objective evidences:
    • Card packs typically release cards by themes, some with stronger patterns than others (e.g. Deck Build packs)
    • Card reveals typically reveal entire themes of cards at once.
    • Official statements.

Half-baked idea

Note that, because of my OCG background, my perspective on Yugioh distinguishes between "name string-supported cards", "card themes" and "themed decks". They respectively refers to:

  • The set of all legal cards that are affected by a name string specifying card effect, which may themselves be disconnected thematically. (e.g. "Photon" cards)
  • A set of thematically related cards that forms an interconnected game strategy, which may encompass one name string, multiple name strings, or no name strings. (e.g. the Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon theme, which encompasses the "GEPD", "Galaxy-Eyes", and "Photon" name strings)
  • One or more deck strategies built around a card theme. (e.g. the GEPD themed deck)

(the second and third point are distinguished because I like to distinguish between "lesser" strategies, or how small sets of cards interact with each other strategically, and "greater" strategies, or how all of a Deck's cards form a strategy, taking into account draws, turns, interruption, etc.)
