  • "Submarineroid" does not assume new "original ATK" values. Its original ATK does not modify after the battle is concluded. It does not become a "new original ATK" or anything of that sort. It's effect means to explain that the battle damage inflicted will be equal to whatever "Submarineroid's" original ATK is. If equipped with "Axe of Despair", it will only inflict 800 damage, and "Submarineroid's" ATK remains at 1800.[1]

  • The effect "This card can attack your opponent directly, but when it does so using this effect, the battle damage inflicted to your opponent is the original ATK of this card" is a Continuous Effect.[13]
  • The effect "but when it does so using this effect, the battle damage inflicted to your opponent is the original ATK of this card" is applied if "Submarineroid" attacks directly using its own effect. (It is not applied if there are no monsters in the opponent's Monster Zone and it is attacking directly.)[13]
  • The effect "At the end of the Damage Step, if this card attacked or was attacked: You can change this card to Defense Position" is a Trigger Effect. (It does not target.)[13]
  • The effect "You can change this card to Defense Position" can be activated not only at the end of a Damage Step in which "Submarineroid" attacked, but also at the end of a Damage Step in which an opponent's monster attacked "Submarineroid".[13]

Mentions in Other Rulings

  • Megaroid City: The ATK and DEF that are swapped by the effect "During damage calculation, if your "roid" monster battles: You can send 1 "roid" monster from your Deck to the GY; switch the original ATK and DEF of your battling monster during the damage calculation only" of "Megaroid City" are treated as the original ATK and DEF. Therefore, if the ATK and DEF of "Submarineroid" are swapped by "Megaroid City", the original ATK of "Submarineroid" is 1800 and its original DEF is 800 during damage calculation. If "Submarineroid" attacks directly using its own monster effect, as a result of "but when it does so using this effect, the battle damage inflicted to your opponent is the original ATK of this card", the battle damage inflicted to the opponent becomes 1800.[15]
