Ok, me and my friend were duelling the other day and awe suddenly got a bit of rules confusion. I declared an attack, and he responded with Sakuretsu Armor, but we were both unsure as to wether the attack still happened.

I beleived that the attack WOULD still happen, as Sakuretsu Armor does not specifically say that it negates the attack. However, i can also understand my friends point that as Sakuretsu Armor's effect would be chain link 2, it would resolve first, destroy the monster, and then the attack itself cannot resolve, as the monster is not there anymore to attack!

for that duel, we played it my way as he is less experienced at the game than me, but i've only just got back into the game after a 5 year absence, so a clarification on this one would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance! Banatine (talkcontribs) 13:34, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

Attacks do not use chains...
The attack just stops.
Since Damage Calculation was never reached, the monster that was attacked doesn't do anything.

Attack is a group of special events (check Breakdown of the Battle Phase), not an effect or something like that. When you declare attack, "attack declaration window" will be opened, your opponent can active Sakuretsu Armor/Mirror Force/etc. in this window. If monster is not in face-up Attack Position on the field (because it was removed from the field or flipped to face-down by Book of Moon) or something prevent it attack, the attack will be stopped, no Damage Step, no Battle Damage, no destroyed by battle monster.-- (talkcontribs) 13:46, July 24, 2011 (UTC)
Just to make it more sense-able; if the monster is no longer there, then the attack also vanished. It's impossible to make "paradox" or "conflict" if you are attacking with nothing. --FredCat 14:52, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

right, thank you everyone, now we know!
