Forum:Premium Gold: worth getting or waste of money?

When I saw the complete card list, I was glad that they decided to reprint mostly cards that needed a reprint (unlike the Gold Series 5, where Konami randomly decided to reprint Grapha, that was new at that time). Still, I am uncertain if this set is really worth it:

The new cards, AKA Gold Secret Rares, are IMO mostly useless to me (except Ghost of a Grudge and Beelze) and seem to cater more to collectors than players. Is it worth getting the set for the reprints only? - BronzeJohnson (talkcontribs) 20:56, March 21, 2014 (UTC)

Think about the numbers (no, not the cards.) You get 15 cards total, made up of three Mini-Packs, each containing two Gold-Secrets and three Golds. The Golds are, forgiving my terrible pun, pure gold. There's nine total, so there's a fairly decent chance you'll get some cards that are worth it. It all depends on what you're looking for as well. If you plan to sell the gold stuff later, it's probably worth it. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:38, March 21, 2014 (UTC)

That's actually a good idea... Buying 2-3 Premium Golds and sell the cards I don't need. I just I'll get the few cards I really want (Lonefire Blossom, the "Forbidden"- spell cards, Mezuki).

The only thing that worries me is the over all size of the set. With 90 cards in it, it might get difficult getting the ones I need. - BronzeJohnson (talkcontribs) 07:24, March 22, 2014 (UTC)

Well if it helps, you have (per 15 card pack); 1 in 6 change of any individual GScR, a 1 in 18 chance of getting any card numbered 33-50, and a 1 in 20 change of getting any card number 51-90. So I would suggest single, as your chances of pulling the things you want are rather slim. Photonkrios99 (talkcontribs) 09:03, March 22, 2014 (UTC)

Unless you are someone like me who builds and runs every kind of deck i can get my hands on, competitive or no. In which case, this set is literally solid Gold.DreadKaiser (talkcontribs) 03:16, March 24, 2014 (UTC)

Well, I used to be like you, but this resulted in many 15-25 card "decks" that were undercooked messes. That's why I've changed my attitude quite a bit. - BronzeJohnson (talkcontribs) 05:48, March 24, 2014 (UTC)
I find making under-supported or non-competitive decks work to be most of the fun, personally. Those Gimmick puppets will be fun to use. But everyones got their preferences (personally, once teh someone starts mentioning negs, pluses or deck speed, i find they take the game too srsly and wonder if they actually find it fun anymore.)DreadKaiser (talkcontribs) 06:03, March 24, 2014 (UTC)

I've found out today that the European version only includes 10 cards. This is a major turn-off to me: instead of 9 gold rares, we get only 6 per pack. This means I would need to buy more packs to obtain the cards I want, which in turn might result in several copies of a card I don't want....

I guess I'll pass on this set then. Way to go Konami, you are killing off the European market of your game. - BronzeJohnson (talkcontribs) 19:34, March 27, 2014 (UTC)

I think they are worth it, but only if I get a good card in them.

This is my first time buying a Gold release and I love the fact that I am finally getting to add shiny versions of cards like MST and BTH to my deck. Now if they could just give us new shiny versions of Fiendish Chain, CED, Mirror Force, etc.
