Forum:Steelswarm Deck

This is a deck based around the new Arctype Steelswarm which focus around tribute summoning and shut down high level Special Summoned monsters, Synchro Monsters, and Ritual Monsters. The idea looked interesting so I thought I would give it a shot. Now this deck is still a working progress but hopefully it would be ready when they come to America. FOR THE SWARM!!

-I am currently unsure about using Mystic Tomato, I may switch him out for a couple Steelswarm Needles. Most decks seem to focus on using speed to summon their ace monster ASAP, this deck is made to counter that and gain field control relatively easily. The Steelswarm archetype does have a few hindrances but if used right they can be to your advantage. Please help with the deck. Is there anything I can do to make it better?

Perhaps consider using Allure of Darkness or Dark Eruption. Sangan Might be a better choice thank mystic tomato because that would make all your monsters DARK Fiends, plus I noticed one of those Steelswarm monsters prevents special summoning, which may or may not matter at all. Also, not sure if it helps, but Ultimate Offering is a fairly good alternative to Double Summon in many situations. --PyroSwardsman 10:28, May 12, 2011
Well, all but one Steelswarm has 0 Def so I think Recurring Nightmare is better than Dark Eruption because of the larger selection and I get 2 monsters back instead of 1. I may switch out 1 Double Summon for 1 Ultimate Offering and remove 2 Mystic Tomato for 1 Sangan and 1 Steelswarm Caller or Steelswarm Needle. Steelswarm Sentinel is basically a Grave of the Super Ancient Organism for level 5 and above but he only has 1100 atk meaning most level 4 monsters can kill him easly. Steelswarm Scout is the one who stops me from special summoning but only if I use his effect to special summon him from the grave when I have no Spell/Trap cards on the field. --RyuPhalian (talkcontribs) 18:51, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
Steelswarm Sentinel doesn't seem to block attacks though making it all but useless for you in my opinion. Stygian Securitys can search for Steelswarm Cell and Steelswarm Scout. Card Guard is another DARK Fiend which could help keep Grave of the Super Ancient Organism , Ultimate Offering, and Call of the Haunted on the field. It might be good to look for an option to regain some spent life points, if not just an option for a side deck in the case of a Direct Damage deck. Rivalry of Warlords can be a fun play against people who have a very diverse deck and would make a great side deck option for someone with a single Type deck like yours. If you wanted to max out anti-special summon, there is always Royal Oppression or Solemn Warning. --PyroSwardsman 3:05, May 12, 2011
I am not trying to concentrate on Grave of the Super Ancient Organism, that would prevent Steelswarm Scout from special summoning itself. As for life points I have Steelswarm Girastag go gives me 1000 life AND sends a card from the field to the grave (bye bye Stardust Dragon). Saddly I don't have Royal Oppression nor Solemn Warning --RyuPhalian (talkcontribs) 02:41, May 13, 2011 (UTC)
  • "Grave of the Super Ancient Organism" is a nice card, but it's meant for builds that abuse "Genesoid" and/or "Cell", not "Scout". "Scout" is like "Treeborn Frog" in that you either build your Deck around him or don't. I wouldn't recommend him; he doesn't work with "Enemy Controller", he can't be made into "Formula Synchron", and his Summon is blocked by "Royal Oppression". If you do want to use him, remove "Dark Illusion", "Ultimate Offering", "Hercules", and "Caller". Spam "Moth" and "Girastag". "Keep "Infestation Wave" and "First Step Towards Infestation" for End Phase shenanigans. Add "Armageddon Knight"/"Dark Grepher" to mill "Scout" quickly. Stick Gorz and "Trageodia" in there while you're at it.
  • If you want to run a "Cell" build, max out "Recurring Nightmare", "Ultimate Offering", and "Mantis", and add more "Gatekeeper". Throw in "Seven Tools of the Bandit" or somesuch to deal with Traps. You can do massive damage by looping "Mantis" into "Gatekeeper" into "Mantis" into "Gatekeeper". "Dark Illusion" is good for blocking "Dimensional Prison" as well as "Effect Veiler".
As for your current build:
MEH: You need more Spell/Trap support to deal with opposing threats. "First Step Towards Infestation" doesn't fit this build. There are very few situations in which it would be better than "Forbidden Lance", aside from the whole cantrip thing. "Infestation Wave" has the same problem. "Sangan" is not as good as "Mystic Tomato" unless you can keep it alive for long enough to use as Tribute (I think you can't). "Hercules" is for "Genesoid" builds; use "Dark Necrofear" and DAD instead.
YAY: Use "Allure of Darkness". Given your GotSAO, "Moth" will generally be used for bouncing Exceed Monsters; run more of it and Side "Needle". Instead of "Double Summon", run another "Ultimate Offering". Run either lots of Spell/Trap destruction or some "Trap Stun", because this Deck loses advantage fast if the Summons are negated.
"Royal Oppression" is not a good idea; your current build is dependent on Special Summons. "Solemn Warning", on the other hand...
On an unrelated note, run more Exceed Monsters. 207.233.120.2 (talk) 22:04, May 13, 2011 (UTC)
Well, right now I am just trying to make a deck with the cards I have (ofcource with the acceptance of the actual Steelswarm). I wasn't planning on using Royal Oppression in the deck and definatly not Gorz, Trageodia, or DAD. Those cards are splashed too much and I want this deck to show the power of the Steelswarm, not some cookey cutter Dark deck. As for Armageddon Knight and Dark Grepher I rather use Means of Infestation. I'll admit, Steelswarm Cell isn't as good as I first thought, I should probably -1 Steelswarm Cell and +1 Steelswarm Scout. Solemn Warning may be powerful but also expensive and rare and I don't have the trade nor the cash to get one at the moment. Using a Mystic Tomato would help both search power and Exceed summon Steelswarm Roach (I havn't done much research on exceed monsters which is why the Exceed list is a bit lacking). Running a second Ultimate Offering May be risky because it also allows my opponant to use its effect aswell but for now I will use 2. As for Steelswarm Hercules, I just thought having a field wiper would be nice but he could be tricky to use. I may switch out an Infestation Wave for Seven Tools of the Bandit because it dosn't matter how great it's effect is if I can't even pay the price. I am still questionable on Steelswarm Mantis, but I would take out Steelswarm Needle for something elce like Mystic Tomato and side deck x3 Steelswarm Needle. Thanks for the tips. So far the deck is as shown below:
