when do metalmorphs' second effect take place?(in damage step 1:calculating the damage or in damage step 2:applying the damage)?

  • question* My bro and i were playing, and he used his dark magician knight to attack my stardust dragon. (He used mage power to increase Knight's attack by 500). I used raigeki break to destroy dark magician knight, but he said that i couldn't use it, because he already declared battle. So, what would be the time for me to use raigeki break?--63.228.45.85 15:50, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

Of course you can use Raigeki Break. Think of it as replacing Sakuretsu Armor or Mirror Force. The only time you can't activate Raigeki Break during a battle is when you've entered damage calculation (the only cards that can be activated are ATK/DEF modifying cards).PoirotH 15:54, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

not shure on a ruling[edit]

if anchient gear beast attacks a face down flip effect monster does the effect activate? not shure because of anchient gear beast effect of negateing effects. —This unsigned comment was made by 207.119.116.210 (talkcontribs) 00:57, December 20, 2009

The Flip Effect will be negated. The effect of "Ancient Gear Beast" negates things the same way that the effect of "Dark Ruler Ha Des" negates things.
It's usually better to ask questions on the Forum, since it's set up so that people can answer your questions. Also, remember to sign your posts with four tildes ~~~~, since that automatically creates a signature for you.

Penguin Soldier[edit]

Let's say my opponent attacks my face-down Penguin Soldier with a Cannon Soldier. Assuming I read the Damage Step section correctly, Flip Effects are activated in substep 6, and destroyed monsters are sent to the graveyard in substep 7. Since Penguin Soldier is still technically on the field when its effect resolves, shouldn't my doomed Penguin Soldier be able to target itself in order to return it to my hand? 24.66.42.78 08:07, December 28, 2009 (UTC)

Actually, "Penguin Soldier" is already considered to be destroyed, even though it is still on the field. It is destroyed, so it cannot be returned to the hand. --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 03:23, December 31, 2009 (UTC)

Activating cards in the Start Step[edit]

I've been told by 2 respectable judges whom I trust that when you enter your battle phase, you (the turn player) have priority to attack. This leads me to believe that the start step, as it is described in the rulebook, is simply the declaration that you are entering your Battle Phase. I have issues with charts like these because I do not believe that there is a period of time in the Start Step in which to play Spells or Traps before the attack is declared. This is an important issue because of things like the "Ancient Gear" monsters, in which you should be able to attack in the Battle Phase before Book of Moon is played. Chaosgodkarl 09:33, March 28, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, it's once you enter the Battle Step. There's nothing saying that you can attack in the Start Step. Your judges might have misread the ruling on Card Rulings:Ancient Gear Soldier. --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 18:47, March 28, 2010 (UTC)

Karakuris and the Battle Phase[edit]

Hi everyone.

At my locals this week, I was playing Karakuris, who have to attack each turn if able. My question is:

If I have a defence position Karakuri (and no other monsters), can I enter my Battle Phase without attacking, then go into Main Phase 2, switch my Karakuri to Attack Position, summon other Karakuris etc? I personally believe that you can, but everyone adamantly stated that I couldn't do it. But really I don't know... Can anyone answer this?MarshTronic (talkcontribs) 12:09, September 12, 2011 (UTC)

It is better to ask questions on the Forum.
You can. It says, if able. Defense position monsters are not able to declare attacks.
If you had an attack position Karakuri that has not attacked and you are in the Battle Phase, then it must attack, and you cannot go to a different Phase. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 12:17, September 12, 2011 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for the info. :) And I'll remember to go to the forum next time, sorry about that. And thanks again :) MarshTronic (talkcontribs) 12:37, September 12, 2011 (UTC)

rulings that happen in the damage step to end phase[edit]

i was wondering if effects that say appliy at the start of the damage step to the end phase like kalut for blackwings pervent the monster from being distroyed. example:stracco attacks blue-eyes whihte dragon then he/she plays kalut which one is distroyed (i now that i wold take 400 damage) lord4571

Source?[edit]

Where did this guide come from? I've been trying to find the original source, but no luck so far. I'm just curious, really. Everything about it matches up with known rulings, so I'm not questioning it. --Wolfgang DelaSangre (talkcontribs) 20:46, April 14, 2013 (UTC)

There is no source actually. It's a compilation of what admins well acquainted with rulings have compiled over the years. That being said, it would be awesome if the page had sources for it... --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 20:54, April 14, 2013 (UTC)
The page actually could use a major revision. It's confusing to new players, so I've heard. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 02:47, April 22, 2013 (UTC)

Major Rules Update (Currently just OCG)[edit]

So, I have to wonder: How will the new rules affect Flip Effects? Or do they? From the looks of it (not that I've ever been too good with YGO's mish-mash rulings), Dark Cat with White Tail can now save itself?

A link to the rules updates: http://www.yugioh-card.com/hk/howto/master_rule_3.php?lang=en#ml1

Anyone who can clear this up for certain, that would be great! (I hope I'm not the only one glad to see this game FINALLY getting some actual repairs to it's problems...)Jarie スイクン 23:14, April 11, 2014 (UTC)

  • Well, never mind about saving itself, that's apparently no different (sadly; that would fix a lot of stupid balance problems if Flip Effects had any real standing power). Still, loving the other fixes to gameplay!Jarie スイクン 05:33, July 5, 2014 (UTC)

Attack declaration window in the battle contradiction[edit]

There is a contradiction on this page and http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_Step On this page it says that if both players pass in the attack declaration window of the battle step, that you proceed immediately to damage step, whereas the link I reference above says otherwise, that you can end said window and still have one or more chains in battle step before damage step.

I tried to make an edit about this before, and it was reverted by SnorlaxMonster, and I couldn't find a source at the time and stumbled across the battle step page today. I'm fairly certain that it is this page which is wrong. I haven't really contributed in the past, so I'm not sure what the proper way to resolve this conflict is.
