The Cosmic Urban Legends (
Lore
Design
Cards in the series are reptilian humanoids based on urban legends.
Like Mitsuko, cards in the series often reference the number 3 in their names, Levels, ATK, DEF, and effects, due to the Flatwoods monster that Mitsuko is based on being called the "3-meter alien" in Japanese.
Monster | Origin | Notes |
---|---|---|
Alien Count of the White Dwarf, St. Germain | St. Germain | A European adventurer who made many different stories about his past, such as being 500 years old. |
Sannomiya Golden G Robo MK-III | Ninomiya Sontoku | Statues of Ninomiya are said to run around schools at night. |
The Three Warp-Granny Sisters | Turbo grannies | Stories of grannies that can run at 100 kilometers per hour, running next to cars and frightening the drivers. |
Spell/Trap | Origin | Notes |
---|---|---|
300 Light-Year Red Cloak | Aka Manto | A spirit wearing a red cloak said to haunt public bathrooms and kill the occupants. |
Area 33 | Area 51 | A United States Air Force facility subject to many conspiracy theories, often involving aliens. |
Third Coming of the Reptilian Count | Reptoid | A popular conspiracy theory and urban legend of the modern day is the existence of "lizard people" or "Reptoids" that have been controlling the world from the shadows by posing as humans, particularly high-ranking figures such as nobles, presidents, CEOs or tech moguls. |
The Three Moonlit Mystery Geckos | The Seven Wonders of School | Many Japanese schools have collected their own share of urban legends often referred to as "The Seven Wonders of School" (Gakkou no Nanafushigi). The card switched "Gakkou" (school) with "Gekkou" (moonlight) and replaced the reference to the number 7 with the series' own recurring theme of 3's. |
Playing style
The theme is based around using Reptile Type Normal Monsters, especially Level 3 or lower ones, either as beaters or resources in a simple beatdown-centric strategy. Most of the Spells/Traps of the series focus on strengthening their monsters or recovering them, and either require using Level 3 or lower Reptile Normal Monsters for the cost or having them on the field as requirements to use the cards in the first place.
Several cards of the Chameleon series also support Reptile Type Normal Monsters, and thus are compatible with the series' playstyle. "Rocketortoise Modularchelon" can also be used as an alternative boss monster.
