- This card can be Tribute Summoned with one Tribute using "Flame Ruler".
- Equip this card with "Mirror of Yata" to keep it on the field, instead of tributing 2 monsters every time you want to Summon it.
- You can use "Dark Bribe" to protect this card without having to deal with the hand advantage given, since the card they draw will be sent to the Graveyard anyway.
- This card works very well with "Mausoleum of the Emperor", as this card's power is respectably high and it can destroy whatever assets your opponent has.
- If you are running out of life points, you can Summon "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi", attack, and at the Main Phase 2 activate "Mystik Wok" and raise your LP by 2900. This is very useful, once this card will return to your hand. With "Mystik Wok" you can give it a last utility. The same can be applied to "Yamata Dragon".
- You can play "Macro Cosmos" or "Dimensional Fissure" and offer "D.D. Survivors" or "D.D. Scout Planes" as Tributes for the Tribute Summon. When this card returns to your hand, "D.D. Survivor" and "D.D. Scout Plane" will get Special Summoned onto your field and not leave you open because of their effects.
- Use this combo if you are up against "Dark World" Decks, as "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi" will only cause them to activate their effects otherwise.
- This and the other Spirit Monsters can easily counter "Light and Darkness Dragon"'s effect. Since returning Spirit monsters to the hand during the End Phase is obligatory, "Light and Darkness Dragon" will negate it again and again until his ATK is too low for him to continue negating.
- Use cards like "Guardian Sphinx" to allow this card to attack directly and make your opponent discard more cards.
- In addition, use "Xing Zhen Hu" to lock down 2 your opponent's face-down Spell and Trap Cards.
- Use "Drop Off" or "Drastic Drop Off" to get rid of your opponent's entire hand.
- Combine with "Black Garden" and "Fenrir" so when that when "Fenrir" destroys a "Rose Token" and while this card attack the Attack Position Rose Token or attack directly which causes a Draw Lockdown.
Traditional Format
- Activate "Ultimate Offering" to Summon both "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi" and "Yata-Garasu" in the same turn and form a Lockdown. Attack with "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi" and make your opponent discard his/her entire hand and attack directly with "Yata-Garasu" to make him/her skip his/her next Draw Phase.
- Be sure your opponent has no cards on the field, or has cards that will not interfere in Yata-Garasu's attack or in the Lockdown.
- If your opponent will have a monster left after "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi" attack, or if "Yata-Garasu" isn't able to attack directly because of a stronger monster, activate "Riryoku" (during your Main Phase 1) to ensure that it will be stronger than that monster your opponent controls.
- Since "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi's" effect is applied only when it inflicts damage to your opponent's Life Points, ensure that it will deal damage by equiping it with "Sword of Kusanagi", "Big Bang Shot", "Ebon Arrow" etc or by activating "Final Attack Orders", if he/she has monsters in Defense Position.
- Use "Giant Trunade" before inflict Battle Damage to your opponent with this card.
- Activate the effect of "Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier" to return all cards your opponent control to the hand, then, attack with "Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi" to force your opponent to discard all cards returned.
