"Goyo" (ゴヨウ Goyou) is an archetype of EARTH Warrior-Type monsters used by the Security in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's and Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V. All members of this archetype are Synchro Monsters (except "Goyo Emperor", which is a Fusion Monster).
Design
The "Goyo" monsters are designed after kabuki actors and/or Edo period police. Their effects usually consist of "holding" the opponent's monsters captive, taking control of them once they are destroyed, reflecting the fact that they are monsters used by the Security to arrest criminals through Turbo Duels. Furthermore, the name "Goyō" can be translated as "arrest/apprehension" (御用).
Members
Goyo | Swarming effect |
---|---|
Chaser | Special Summon an opponent's monster destroyed in battle by this card, but its ATK is halved |
Defender | Special Summon 1 other "Goyo Defender" from your Extra Deck if all monsters you control are EARTH Warrior-Type Synchro Monsters |
Emperor | Varies depending on the effect being used
|
Guardian | Special Summon an opponent's monster destroyed in battle by this card in Defense Position |
King | Varies depending on the effect being used after an opponent's monster is destroyed in battle by this card
|
Predator | Special Summon an opponent's monster destroyed in battle by this card, but any battle damage it inflicts to either player becomes halved |
Playing style
The members all have effects that either Special Summons the monsters they destroy in battle to their side of the field or gain control of the opponent's monsters. This ability to control the opponent's monsters is used together with quick swarming tactics to overwhelm the opponent and allow the officers to quickly capture criminals, leaving them no exit.
