- This card is based on Jörmungandr, the sea serpent child of Loki and Angrboða in Norse mythology; Jörmungandr is wrapped around the Earth with its tail in its mouth, and it letting go is one of the signs that heralds wikipedia:Ragnarök.
- This card's effect to Special Summon itself to your opponent's side of the field if an "Aesir" monster is on the field is derived from Jörmungandr's role in Ragnarök: Jörmungandr and Thor are prophesied to slay each other, with Thor felling Jörmungandr first and then dying himself from the beast's spewing venom after taking nine steps.
- This card's appearance in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime further references this folklore:
- During Yusei Fudo's Turbo Duel against Halldor in episode 129, Halldor uses the effect of this card to Special Summon it to Yusei's field in Defense Position, as Halldor controls a face-up Divine-Beast monster; one of the three Divine-Beast monsters he controls is "Thor, Lord of the Aesir".
- This monster is shown to have its tail in its mouth when in Defense Position, similar to an ouroboros, and it lets go when it is changed to Attack Position; Halldor planned to defeat Yusei by using this card's effect, which deals 3000 effect damage to its controller when it is switched to Attack Position, in conjunction with the effect of "Fenrir the Nordic Wolf", which switches all monsters on its controller's side of the field to Attack Position during the Battle Phase.
