I am a little confuse about damage step and damage calculation

Some cards say that gains ATK in damage step and others in damage calculation.

Do you know the difference?189.227.12.56 14:53, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

The Damage Step happens during the Battle Phase after you declare an attack with a monster that you control. Damage Calculation is one of the sub-steps in the Damage Step.--Hide Head Turtle 15:14, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the answers, but the question is, is there any difference to gain ATK in Damage Step ore in Damage Calculation?

For example, all case in face up attack position:

Case 1: My monster has 1000 ATK and attack a monster that has 1100 ATK. And in Damage Step I activate a trap card that increment the ATK of my monster by 500. My monster destroy the opponent monster? The answer is YES, but what happen in case 2?

Case 2: Is the same scenario but the trap card that increment the ATK of my monster by 500 is activated in damage calculation. My monster destroy the opponent monster?189.227.12.56 15:57, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

All that changes is the cards which can be chained/responded with. for example during damage calculation: "We only get one Chain with which to activate effects that are activated "during damage calculation". Only effects that are activated "during damage calculation" and effects that negate them, such as Counter Trap Cards and the effects of cards like "Herald of Orange Light" and "Light and Darkness Dragon", can be activated at this time. Effects that increase, decrease, halve, double, etc. the ATK and/or DEF of a monster cannot be activated at this time, unless they are specifically allowed to be activated "during damage calculation"."

To answer your question, more-or-less, there's no difference. In Case #2, your opponent's monster will be destroyed, and yours won't. (Err, assuming that you're using a Trap like "Covering Fire" that can be activated during Damage Calculation. Most can only be activated before Damage Calculation.) --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 18:59, May 17, 2010 (UTC)
