When Wind-up Zenmaines is flipped face-down by an effect such as book of moon would the effect still activate if it is attacked and over-powered? 172.1.88.166 (talk) 18:04, January 12, 2013 (UTC)

Only if it was flipped face-up. Example: If I activated "Shield Crush" to destroy it while it was face-down, its effect couldn't detach an Xyz Material instead, since it was not face-up.
However, if it was attacked by an opponent's monster, it will flip face-up during the Damage Step, and will be able to apply its effect if it would be destroyed by battle. Cards like "Mystic Swordsman LV2" can avoid this, since it destroys the monster before it is flipped face-up. See Breakdown of the Battle Phase for more information on when the monster flips face-up. Take note of the steps that occur directly before and after this step. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 20:00, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
One other thing, the term activate means it uses a chain.
It does not use a chain, it is a Continuous Effect which does not activate.
The term "apply" or "use" would be better. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 21:27, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
On other note, if you used Catastor against that monster and you had "Divine Wrath" set at that time (set in early duel), then at the End Phase when Zenmaines activated, you can flip that trap to kill Zenmaines (as of at that time, it has no Materials to detach) easily. --iFredCat 21:42, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
