Rename[edit]

I feel this article should be renamed: Red Dragon Archfiend Scarlight. When translated that way, it makes more sense. Does anyone else agree/disagree?--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 04:57, July 19, 2015 (UTC)

Seriously, anyone at all?--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 03:13, July 25, 2015 (UTC)

The card has nothing to do with light. And its right arm is scarred. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 03:30, July 25, 2015 (UTC)
I feel the scars are much more bright than regular scars. And the right arm is glowing between the gauntlet-like structure. Also Scar-Light makes a lot more sense than Scar-Right.--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 12:56, July 29, 2015 (UTC)
Also, there's this: --Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 13:07, July 29, 2015 (UTC)
there is a scar on its right arm, just because it has glowy bits doesn't really sell me on that.
the name will probably get changed in the TCG anyway
Also I am Fairly certain that you are not allowed to upload images for the forums or talk pages, for future reference.
Dread (talkcontribs) 13:43, July 29, 2015 (UTC)
Seconding Dread. The scars on this RDA's right arm are the main focus, not the glowing bits. ChaosGallade (talkcontribs) 13:58, July 29, 2015 (UTC)
But the scars themselves glow.--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 18:12, July 29, 2015 (UTC)
And doesn't the very fact that it's scars glow in the show as well as appear to on the card support my side? (That is what I posted an image for, anyhow...)--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 18:15, July 29, 2015 (UTC)
We can see quite clearly that the scar is glowing, but the fact that he scar is on the right arm makes more sense. It seems quite clear that everyone except you agrees that Scar-Right is the best name. NMBRHNTR64 (talkcontribs) 18:32, July 29, 2015 (UTC)
Computer Bug, one of your argument is "Scarlight" makes more sense. That's not an argument. You can't just say that, you have to back it up. And as we've seen "the scars glow a bit" isn't enough to convince everyone. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 20:48, July 29, 2015 (UTC)
I believe it would make more sense for a few reasons: it can be translated as either (so in Japan, both could work), the scars glow, it sounds like "scarlet" (which as we know, is another shade of red similar to crimson as well as a portion of the name of "Scarlet Nova"), and the name would also sound similar to Starlight (which could reference Yusei and perhaps even his absence in the series). I simply feel it makes more sense than being named just for it's arm.--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 00:55, July 30, 2015 (UTC)

It was never "Scarlet" it was "Scar-Red". Check the katakana. Sanokal K-T (talkcontribs) 02:03, July 30, 2015 (UTC)

Even so, scarlet is a shade of red, similar to crimson.--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 02:31, July 30, 2015 (UTC)
So does anybody think that it seems more likely to be called something like, "Scarlight"? I'm just saying that I see more reason for that name than just, it's right arm having scars...--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 03:03, August 2, 2015 (UTC)
It ain't just the arm, mate, it's missing part of its right horn too. Sanokal K-T (talkcontribs) 03:05, August 2, 2015 (UTC)
Even so, it just seems like a weak reference. But as I pointed out, the name references both things in Japan. I just feel that the reference to it glowing is stronger than a direction on it's body.--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 17:08, August 2, 2015 (UTC)
The orientation of the scars on this RDA's body makes "right" more sense than "light", and that orientation is this monster's main focus, IMO. The others have already come to a consensus that its name should be kept as is. ChaosGallade (talkcontribs) 07:56, August 3, 2015 (UTC)
I don't see why Konami would name it based entirely on a direction. I've already tried to point out the several reason Scar-Light would make more sense, whereas I've only been shown one reason Scar-Right makes sense.--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 15:55, August 3, 2015 (UTC)
And I don't see why you are so insistent about this when no one else here is agreeing with you. I suggest you just let it go. The name is Scar-Right. It is staying that way. Deal with it. NMBRHNTR64 (talkcontribs) 19:41, August 3, 2015 (UTC)
I just want to be convinced of the other way. But no one seems to want to give a reason other than it being the name some fans already gave it. I also don't see why you have to be so aggressive. The point is, I wanted to state why I believe it works better another way. But I suppose we'll just have to see what it gets named in the next month or so.--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 03:09, August 4, 2015 (UTC)
I would just like to say that (and it's actually mentioned on the trivia section of the page) the entire idea behind the design of the card is a reference to Jack and Yusei's final duel in the 5D's anime, where RDA more or less had his entire right half broken by a huge attack by Junk Warrior. This card is literally just an aged RDA after he healed up. What do you get when you heal from a major injury? Scars. What side of his body was obliterated? The right side. He has scars on his right side. Scar Right. There you go. DarkRebellionSun (talkcontribs)23:51, August 5, 2015 (UTC)

You know what?[edit]

JUST FUCKING STOP THIS NAME DEBATE..IT'S STUPID. It's scar-right as a ref to the final episode of 5D's and it's obvious design. Otherwise, we might as well contact Admins for a ban. #TeamPlacido

Well damn, he was right.[edit]

http://ygorganization.com/tcg-some-docs-en-names/ How bout that Dread (talkcontribs) 18:08, August 20, 2015 (UTC)

This angers me greatly, but I will accept it, since apparently nobody in the translation/localization team at Konami understands logic. Fine by me. DarkRebellionSun (talkcontribs) 20:50, August 20, 2015 (UTC)
to be fair, the translation isn't wrong. both are "correct", Scar-Right just seems "more correct" to me and many others because of the design of the dragon itself.
Personally I don't mind it that much as the name atleast sounds good.
Dread (talkcontribs) 21:34, August 20, 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, as much as I don't like it, Scarlight is still valid. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 22:32, August 20, 2015 (UTC)
Jesus, I only just now checked what has been said since my last comment. You are all very rude individuals, I did not once experience anyone give the benefit of the doubt. I continually stated that either worked in the Japanese version, but the English would have likely gone another way. But I never gave criticisms or expressed disdain for anyone to message this thread, and if I did, I certainly didn't mean to.--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 02:31, August 21, 2015 (UTC)
You didn't. and this is Not rude, ....well cept that one TeamPlacido guy that was uncalled for. this is a fairly standard and civil debate to me. you just failed to produce a convincing argument for why Light > Right. both were valid translations, we all knew that. we all simply believe that Right was the "More correct" translation.
Naming things is REALLY serious business here, you should see some other shitstorms that came up for naming cards before the offical TCG version came out. Manga!Ancient Fairy Dragon was particularly crazy
You'd be surprised how many cards have more then 1 "Correct" translation, we use what seems to fit best and most of us believed "Right" fit more then "light" and you failed to convince us otherwise, simple as that. Then this happened.
Dread (talkcontribs) 03:19, August 21, 2015 (UTC)
Well I will at least say that I too am not completely happy with the english version, but that's only for the placement of "Scarlight". Not because I wanted it to be exactly as I wanted it or anything obsessive like that, but because I personally think it sounds better in the initial order.
I also still don't seem to get why my multiple points (approximately, 4) to my side in this were so quickly shot-down by what I could only seem to count as 2 reasons. (and I saw that someone mentioned it was stated by the company to be "Scar-Right" properly. If that was brought up initially, none of this would have escalated as much.)
Sigh... well, whatever. Konami gave it this name. Whether you don't like it because you don't think it looks good, you're still bent on the fan translation, or you actually feel such because the random nobody on the Wikia was right and you were not, It doesn't matter anymore. So we can just stop posting here in reference to that, right?--Computer Bug (talkcontribs) 04:52, August 21, 2015 (UTC)
