I think that the duels are also known as Life-or-Death Duels in the Japanese anime. And for the GX series, there were many Shadow Duels in third season, especially Battle Royals. --109.93.24.251 (talk) 01:05, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

I'm not really sure the duels in GX count as Shadow Duels. There was no magic in play. Damage done by cards was simply real in those dimensions. It doesn't really fit the theme of other Shadow Duels. Are all of them Shadow Games?

It's not stated in the article which of these are Shadow Games and aren't. The GX first season ones had the characteristics of, and were called, Shadow Games, having a similar origin. The third season Duels seemed to be a by product of being in the Duel Spirit dimension.

In 5Ds, however, the powers used to invoke the games are much different, and they seem to be simiply a different form of Shadow power that is used to make the damage real, with the only form of punishment being sent to the Netherworld/dying (same thing, really.)

ZEXAl's only Shadow Duel is definitely a Shaodw Game, though, as its the one I've heard Vector describe as a "Yami no Game" (Game of Darkness, which in the original series was translated as "Shadow Game" in the dub.) I haven't heard this term used in 5Ds.

Shadow games origin?

Ok I'm very confused. In the first series shadow games were them GOING to the the shadow realm to duel. But the other shows didn't have the shadow realms in them. They don't GO to the Shadow Realm, the Shadow Realm is a dub-only introduction. The purple clouds that appear, appear in Shadow Games of Duel Monsters. Sanokal K-T (talk • contribs) 06:02, April 2, 2014 (UTC)

As far as I know, not as of yet. Duels in LINK VRAINS seem to deal damage though. That being said, doesn't mean that they can't show up in the future, given the Eye of Horus in the opening... Sanokal K-T (talk • contribs) 20:52, June 4, 2017 (UTC)
