Revision as of 18:26, 20 March 2012

So, we haven't had one of these in a while, we meant to do one after New Year's, but ended up taking a long break. Sorry about that! Anyway, we decided to create a contest where you guys can take older decks and make them viable again! Think of it, a deck people think isn't very good, but then you give that deck new life! Viva la decks! Viva la YGO!

Anyway, below are the decks you can pick!

Guidelines

  • All OCG and TCG are fine, as long as it has an effect.
  • This contest will be in March 1st, 2012 Banlist.
  • You may not add/remove any decks from the Registration Area.
  • You will be given maybe 1 day if you are late to post, after that, you're out.
  • The deck post up date is March 5th, 2012.

Registration

We will accept 2 contestants per deck.

Example of Registration

LS aren't being used in this contest.

Can we get Ojamas in on this?

Cloudian

DSAX

I use Cloudians to destroy themselves to get Meklords. Easy to do: switch them to DEF Mode! I included (like any Cloudian user that wants to stay in the game) Sanctuary 3 times and Terraforming twice. This keeps my LP safe while I wait for my Meklords. If I'm in danger of losing a Cloudian or just for the sake of wasting my opponent's cards, I have self-destruct cards like Potion and Raigeki. If I'm in a tight spot, there's always Dark Hole to get me a Direct Attack from a Meklord. The Meklords work well, but, sadly, due to the new banlist, their Synchro absorbing effects will be rarely used.

Anyway, that's my deck. Enjoy! --Darkskylarkalexanderx (talkcontribs) 15:31, March 3, 2012 (UTC)

Iron Chain

Gadjiltron

Alright, this is a more or less standard Iron Chain Aggro Deck, based around summoning Iron Chain Dragon and winning battles via buffing or debuffing, and milling the Deck since it has more opportunities to inflict battle damage.

Let's go over the base monsters first... Repairman serves to recycle Snakes and Coils. Snake is a primary milling agent since it debuffs the monster it equips to while also causing one of the strongest milling effects to occur when the weakened monster is destroyed. Coil can buff Repairman to make sure he stays alive for a longer time. Yes, I know, it doesn't work that way on the other side of the pond, but I'm going with the OCG rulings for Coil.

Needle Worm and Morphing Jar are also nice mill agents, taking 5 cards off the Deck when flipped. Wind-Up Zenmaister finds some niche use in being able to instantly recycle their effects without needing prompting from the opponent, though at the cost of exposing them to attack right the next turn. Giant Rat is the main searcher, and secondary LV4 monster for use if I ever need to Synchro or Rank 4 Xyz.

So, most of the monsters here make a 3+3 combo. This either tunes finely into Iron Chain Dragon, or overlays well into the Rank 3 Xyz monsters. Number 17: Leviathan Dragon is a standard beatstick, while Number 20: Giga-Brilliant can buff Iron Chain Dragon to 2800 at first summon, letting it tie with many infamous beatsticks. Gachi Gachi Gantetsu can be Xyz'd off loose Needle Worms and Jars, while also providing a decent buffing wall for Dragon to kick ass with. If push comes to shove, the other Synchro and Xyz monsters can be pulled out to tackle different situations.

The Spell and Trap lineup is more or less standard, though Shackles of the Underworld plays a big part here. Since it slices the equipped monster's ATK and DEF to 100, it allows me to take care of anything that would be otherwise too big for my monsters. This would be far more effective than stacking several Iron Chain Snakes on it, though not as satisfying since I don't get an enormous mill out of this. Anything goes.

Bring out the beater, buff, debuff, and beat the crap out of the opponent's LP. Or tear their Deck to shreds, if they're that resilient. Simple. Nothing more to this Deck. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 15:10, March 3, 2012 (UTC)

Koala

Elite Wolf

This is both a koala toolbox and stun deck. Hamster and Mouse searches for either Airbellum or Des Koala, while Vampire Koala acts as the beatstick with Horn. Everything else in the deck works as the stun. The Extra Deck has the monsters that either help control the duel (the Naturias) or act as the finishers (the XYZ monsters). Yubel

PHASE

This is my Yubel deck, the Garden of Sacrifice. The goal was to mesh DARK Plant-types with Yubel. Hopefully I succeeded? In any case, here is the deck strategy:

Let's start with monsters. Yubel's high level and tribute requirement meant that most of the time, I usually didn't actually want any of her forms in my hand, preferring to summon her from my deck by use of other cards. So I went with 2 Yubel in case one was banished and rendered unusable, and 1 of each of her upper forms since those can be summoned from the hand, Deck, OR Graveyard, so no extra copies would be necessary to reuse them. Mystic Tomato is the obvious choice, DARK, Plant, AND capable of summoning Yubel with ease as well as a plethora of other targets. Samsara Lotus is run at 3, maybe a bit overkill, but I ran through my Traps quickly enough that she was capable of being a Tribute for Yubel whenever she was needed, and since I usually got Yubel destroyed and subsequently upgraded within a couple of turns after summoning, she served well. I also use an Inamto engine of 3 Inmato, three Cherry Inmato, allowing simultaneously for deck thinning, possible Yubel tributes, and a choice between a Rank 2 or 3 Xyz Summon or a Level 5 Synchro Summon (sometimes 8 if I got lucky and they destroyed one of the two summoned Cherry Inmatoes) Tour Guide from the Underworld is very useful, acting as deck thinning as well as a quick Rank 3 Xyz Summon, and Sangan was obvious for synergy with Tour Guide and Yubel. I considered running Regenerating Rose, but after testing, it dead-drew just too many times, no matter how much synergy it seemed to have in theory

Spell-wise, 3 Black Garden and 2 Fragrance Storm perform very well in combination, especially since Yubel's ATK is 0 anyway. Allure of Darkness accelerates the deck and removes any redundant cards such as extra Samsara Lotuses or Inmatoes who can't be used with Cherry anymore. Mark of the Rose at 3 was an absolute must, and once I put it in the deck became far more consistent, able to steal monsters for tribute, attack, and/or Synchro. Dark Hole is a staple which also sets off Yubel, and Heavy Storm is also useful as a staple and for when Samsara Lotus needs to make an reappearance from the Graveyard.

In regards to Traps, Damage Condenser at 3 makes summoning Yubel very easy, and Torrential Tribute at 2 helps evolve her. Battle Mania is usually not necessary since Yubel gets to Ultimate Nightmare quickly enough, but I still included a copy just in case. The rest are simple negation.

Extra Deck wise, things were also very simple - all of the generic Rank 2 and 3 Xyzes I could fit, and some basic Synchroes. Brionac and Scrap Dragon get special mention for setting off Yubel/Terror Incarnate (although Brionac's effect wouldn't help Yubel, it does set off Incarnate.)

Anyway, that's my deck. I hope you all like it!

Skullvarnish

This is my Yubel Deck. The goal is to get out Ultimate Nightmare in as little as 2-3 turns. Armageddon/Grpeher sends Yubel to the Graveyard to be revived by Limit Reverse, or send send Stygian Street Patrol to Special Summon Yubel from the hand. Dark Armed is here because 3 DARKs in Grave is fairly easy to pull off. Plaguespreader gives the deck Synching options. Street Patrol, as mentioned earlier, can SS Yubel from the hand. The TGU engine is here to speed the deck up a little, plus Sangan can search Yubel. Decisive Armor is here mostly because he can be made and is a beatstick. The other Synchros are staple. Super Dreadnought can be made with 2 Yubels (which happens a lot for some reason). He's a last resort. Lavalval Chain either mills a monster or puts any monster I want on top of my deck. Disigma and Shock Master are here in case I happen to have a bunch of Level 4s on my field. The others are staple Xyz. Allure speeds the deck up and has plenty of targets. Burial from the DD returns things like Street Patrol and PSZ to be used again. Foolish sends Yubel to the grave. ROTA Searches Armageddon/Grepher. Battle Mania forces the opponent to attack my Yubels. Destruct Potion was the only thing I came across the destroys Yubel without making its effect miss the timing. Limit Reverse revives Yubel, then I can change Yubel to Defense later on and Limit Reverse will destroy it and trigger its effect. Everything I didn't explain is Staple/Semi-staple. --> Summoned Skull 2: Electric Boogaloo 19:53, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

I hard a hard time picking my 2 favs on this one, it was wither Gadjiltron's deck or PHASE's deck. Elite Wolf forgot to explain his deck, so for me judging was hard on his deck. I've decided to give my vote to Gadjiltron, but he won out by a little bit. PHASE your deck looked great, but for me Gad's was just a little better. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 01:47, March 7, 2012 (UTC)

Had to go with PHASE. I put up my Yubel deck with nothing but confidence in it, but then he puts his up and it was better in every way. I'm thoroughly impressed with his Yubel deck. --> Summoned Skull 2: Electric Boogaloo 02:47, March 7, 2012 (UTC)

I'm going to go ahead and call this one a tie. Congrats to both PHASE and Gadjiltron. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 16:19, March 10, 2012 (UTC)

After Contest Deck Discussion

Realized that I've forgotten to include Naturia Beast and Naturia Barkion, which my almost-all-EARTH Deck entry can make. Oh well.

Still, I wonder what all the other DQ'd contestants could have come up with if they did manage to post their Decks. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 02:55, March 11, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, all the DQ contestants I asked said they just didn't have time. I thought that was a little odd about not having Naturia when they were a perfect fit for Iron Chain. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:19, March 11, 2012 (UTC)
