• This is the third "Gimmick Puppet" "Number". The first is "Number 15: Gimmick Puppet Giant Killer", and second is "Number 40: Gimmick Puppet Heaven's String".
  • This is also the Strongest "Gimmick Puppet" monster in terms of ATK.

• This card, especially while sitting on a throne, resembles "Gravekeeper's Visionary", as a high ranking monster sitting on a throne and a head that resembles an animal (lion and jackal). Plus they are both holding a sword.
  • This card resembles "Grandmaster of the Six Samurai", coming to the position.

• This is the 8th card that can cause an Instant Win.

• This is the first "Number" and "Gimmick Puppet" ever to have a Win condition effect.

• This is the second strongest "Number" in the game in terms of ATK, right behind "Number 22: Fran Ken".

• This card's number may refer to it being the 8th Rank 8 monster.

• 88 is twice as much as the number 44, which, if the numbers are read separately in Japanese, could be read as "shi shi". The Japanese word for lion can also be read as "shishi".

• Another explanation to this card's number could be the fact that the Zodiac sign "Leo" covers the biggest part of August, which is the month 8.

• This card is most likely IV's true Number, as the creature portrayed in the card accurately reflects his personality.
  • Lions are known to have a calm, majestic appearance while at rest, but can be ruthless and bloodthirsty when hunting for their prey. Similarly, IV disguises himself to be a well-mannered man who interacts with people in a noble and polite demeanor when not dueling, but is sadistic and cold when he is, especially against anyone who stands in his way.
  • This card also seems to reflect IV's true nature of being kind and caring. He showed guilt for hurting Shark's younger sister unintentionally but saved her despite getting his scar in the process, and wanted to save his father by defeating Dr. Faker on his own.
  • This card's ability and appearance are also the opposite of "Gimmick Puppet: Giant Killer" and "Heavens String". While most "Gimmick Puppets" have somewhat disturbing and grotesque appearances, this card looks more righteous and benevolent. Also, unlike "Giant Killer" and "Heaven's String", this card does not involve destroying monsters or inflicts damage at the opponent. Instead this card involves winning through a peaceful method.

• This card shares many similarities to "King Landia the Goldfang".
  • Both require 3 Level 8 monsters.
  • Both are based off a lion and a king.
  • Landia's effect involves winning the Match, Destiny Leo's effect involves winning the Duel.

• The fact of this card being a lion sitting on a throne could mean it is the "king" of the "Gimmick Puppets", just like the lion is said to be the king of the jungle.

• This is one of the three anime "Numbers" to not have a sealed form, the others being "Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mech" and "Number 69: God Medallion Coat of Arms", all three of which were used by members of the Tron Family.

• In the anime, when this card detaches an Overlay Unit, it absorbs it with the gem on its sword.

• This card bears a resemblance to a fellow Number, Utopia.
  • They have the same color scheme. (eg. White and Yellow)
  • They both hold a large sword.
  • They are both "kings".
  • Destiny Leo's number is depicted on its right shoulder plate while Utopia's is on the left.

• As of episode 58, this card, "Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis", "Number 32: Shark Drake Number 15: Gimmick Puppet Giant Killer, and Number 40: Gimmick Puppet Heaven's String are the only known Number monsters obtained by the Tron family that do not have a purple number, excluding those taken from Kite Tenjo.

• This card's second effect is very similar to "Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes", in the fact that both monsters can have special counters placed on them by performing a certain action (Hyper Venom Counters for "Venominaga", and Destiny Counters for "Destiny Leo". Once 3 of the certain kind of counters are on each card, their controllers win the Duel.

• This is the second "Gimmick Puppet" monster to use counters (Destiny Counters in this case), the first being "Heaven's String" (specifically, String Counters).
  • They are both Rank 8, DARK Machine-Type monsters with similar ATK and DEF points.
    • They are also the very first Xyz Monsters to use counters.

• This is the 7th Number card to belong to an archetype, Gimmick Puppets.
  • The others are, in order: Number 12: Crimson Shadow Armor Ninja, Number 15: Gimmick Puppet Giant Killer, Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mech, Number 40: Gimmick Puppet Heaven's String, Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis, and Number 8: Heraldic King Genome Heriter.
    • Strangely enough, all but Number 12 were used by members of the Tron family.

• This is the 8th non-anime card thats causes an Instant Win.
  • This is also the First Anime card with a Instant win Condition to have its Win condition changed during the change from Anime to a real card.
