Welcome

Hello, I'm Tyrant Slayer. Welcome to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia, if you have any questions you can ask me and I'll be glad to help you. --Dragon Slayer 20:54, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello, Tyrant Slayer. I'm Dinoguy1000, and I'm happy to meet you. I don't expect to have many questions about the wiki software, since I'm well-versed in it already, but I may have questions about policy and whatnot specific to the Yu-Gi-Oh! wiki. --Dinoguy1000 21:18, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Ok, if you have any problems and I cannot help you ask to this guy: User:Deltaneos, he is always willing to help and can answer most of your questions. --Dragon Slayer 02:48, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Card Table

Thanks for your additions to Card Table template. -- Deltaneos 01:41, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey, don't mention it. ;) Just feel free to yell at me if I make an edit that breaks something and I don't catch it... =P =D --Dinoguy1000 17:21, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Category:Miscellaneous redirects and Template:Unsorted r

Why did you delete Category:Miscellaneous Redirects and Template:Unsorted r? I'm not necessarily contesting the deletions, but a heads-up or a good reason would have been nice... --Dinoguy1000 18:57, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Was there any use for it? Was it being used? -- Huajun Chen 20:39, 13 November 2007 (UTC) User:Dinoguy1000/ctp
Well, they weren't being used ATM, but they were based off of Wikipedia's own redirect sorting system (unless I'm sadly mistaken, of which there's actually a pretty good chance). In any case, why not just put {{delete}} on them first, instead of just deleting them? --Dinoguy1000 17:14, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
It's what I do, lulz. -- Huajun Chen 22:08, 14 November 2007 (UTC)User:Dinoguy1000/ctp
Meh, whateverz... At least, give me a heads up next time, though... --Dinoguy1000 18:19, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
We'll see. Also: there's no need to copy-and-paste what I wrote on your User Talk back onto my talk page. If you want to, sure go ahead, but it's not required or anything. -- Huajun Chen 01:28, 16 November 2007 (UTC) User:Dinoguy1000/ctp
I'm aware that there's no need or requirement to; however, I prefer for the entire discussion to be saved uninterrupted in at least one location, to make it easier to reference it for whatever reason in the future should that need arise. --Dinoguy1000 17:28, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

User:Dinoguy1000/ctp

subst

I don't know if you this or not but using {{subst:User:Dinoguy1000/ctp}} instead of {{User:Dinoguy1000/ctp}} will embed the code directly instead of leaving it as a template. It might be better to use to use this in case User:Dinoguy1000/ctp is vandalised or deleted or if you change the input parameters. -- Deltaneos 18:33, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I knew about substitution, I'm also aware of the possibility of vandalism (although any damage inflicted by vandalism *should* be contained to user talk pages, and on top of that, I'm prepared to take full responsibility should any real problems occur via vandalism of the template). As for deletion, I see little reason for that to occur, since it's in my userspace. And lastly, if I should ever change the parameters, I'd make sure to leave the originals in as a fallback until I could update all the references. If you still have concerns about transcluding versus substituting the template, feel free to say them to me, I'm all ears... ;-) --Dinoguy1000 17:23, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

your spamming

and the admin sould ban you you write gibberish things here Sartorias 08:55, September 5, 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry? I'm not spamming "gibberish", I'm spamming (and yes, I'll freely admit that it falls under a broad definition of spamming) categorization templates on redirect pages. This is something I started almost two years ago, and have left off until now. If you really have such a problem with it, I invite you to speak with an admin here - and I will, without complaint, abide by whatever decision that admin comes to (including a temporary or even permanent revocation of my editing privileges via a block). In the mean time, my editing is not stopping you from editing as well. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 09:00, September 5, 2009 (UTC)

Bot flag

Just letting you know, if you haven't already gotten alerted, Dinobot1000 got its bot flag yesterday. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:49, September 29, 2009 (UTC)

Name updates

I see you got the bot working. That's cool. Thanks. You also asked for a list of names changes that need to updated. There's the following:

Is that too much? However much you can get done would be appreciated. Also some of them have the old name listed as |trans = Reptiless Guardna on their card page. Would you be able to get the bot to not replace the names in those instances? Thank you. -- Deltaneos (talk) 12:05, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

I'll look into this, but I can't run the bot again right now (I'm not sure when I'll be able to again, but hopefully it won't be more than a few days from now). I don't know much about regexes, which means that last point will require a manual run for this. Also, I'm hesitant to simply replace any instances of "Reptiless" with "Reptilianne" because of the potential that the former is a typo, although limiting the run by namespace and making it caps-sensitive should probably address most false positives. --Dinoguy1000 (talk contribs) as 72.251.164.58 13:58, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

Escape IRC log

Was the change here just to remove the wiki formatting? The apostrophes around names and brackets around links weren't on the original log. They were added afterwards to deliberately apply the formatting. -- Deltaneos (talk) 11:55, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

Actually, it was to get rid of the "FULPAGENAME" template in Special:WantedTemplates (it may have also taken another entry or two off of the list; I'm not sure). I understand that the formatting wasn't original to the log; if I'd been rested, I probably would have taken the time to better address the issue (since I have had rest, simply placing each template/magic word in <nowiki/> tags should be sufficient; I'll change it in a second). ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 19:07, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

Sugoroku Mutou image

Gotta a favour to ask. Could you check to see if this was a colour image of Sugoroku Mutou (Solomon Muto) from the manga? If so, could I ask you to upload it here? We could really use it for a portal system we've been working on. -- Deltaneos (talk) 12:11, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Nope, both versions (two were uploaded) were black-and-white images from U.S. Shonen Jump #4. --Dinoguy1000 (talk contribs) as 67.58.229.153 05:54, November 7, 2009 (UTC)

Re:Infernity Mirage English name

As far as I know, the only cards whose names are 100% official are the ones we've seen on Konami's site. Any others are technically approximations, as you said. --Blue (Talk) 20:23, April 10, 2010 (UTC)

Kaiser-kun 17:03, April 21, 2010 (UTC)

Re:Summoned Lord Exodia

The reason why I deleted was because a number of people, myself included, believe that Summoned Lord Exodia was never a card in the first place, but merely how he looked like when all his parts were gathered, making it seem questionable on whether it should have a Card Article. I think that his appearance article should be merged with the appearances of Exodia the Forbidden One,since it is basically the center card. Or maybe it should go in the Exodia page. If you think that I should undelete the article, at least to see it for yourself, then say it. You seem to be quite trustworthy. And thanks for pointing out those pages for deletion.PoirotH 05:22, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Unreachable redirect

Ah yes, you're right, this problem frequently happens with namespace additions. The redirect "Set Card Lists:Duel Master's Guide Promo (TCG-EN)" exists as a mainspace title, while we can only look at the "Set Card Lists" namespace version.

That custom namespace was added on the 14th April 2008, I think. KyleH seems to have temporarily moved all "Set Card Lists" out of the way before installing the namespace to avoid problems like this. He must have missed this one.

Wikia staff have the access needed to remove it. e.g. Uberfuzzy got rid of the Property:ATK in the mainspace, while logs for the title only show the Property namespace version.

Poking staff to delete the title shouldn't be too troublesome. As for fixing logs and history, I don't think there's anything important there. I think it can be fixed by having mainspace pages starting with "Set Card Lists" transferred to the namespace, like when we got our first set of custom namespaces. (Card Rulings, Card Tips, etc.) (That may cause problems if there are pages with the same title.) But yeah, the logs and deleted history aren't so important and probably not worth fixing.

If you want to ask staff to have the problem fixed, you can ask them at Special:Contact. If you'd rather I do it, let me know if there are any more titles with this problem and I'll contact them. Thanks. -- Deltaneos (talk) 09:58, May 24, 2010 (UTC)

Your messages to him on his talk page here are pretty clearly taunting and insulting him. If you feel he is somehow inferior to you because he still likes Sesame Street at his age (which there is really nothing wrong with), you are merely stooping to his level by engaging in this type of behavior. Regardless, I posted to Deltaneos' talk page only as an impartial and concerned editor; I'm leaving any decisions as to what happens entirely up to him. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 02:24, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Approximate name

Hi got your last message. Actually, to tell you the truth translating card names in greek is the ONLY useful thing i do here. I used to add lores and trivia too but i kicked that habbit. Anyway, i'm aware of the Approximate name template or whatever you call it. I have used it several times. But since it was a bit boring adding it all the time, i chose to offer this sentence as an edit summary: "Approximate greek name added". I thought it was pretty much the same and if someone wants to change or even revert my edits then he knows all abt them. Plus, lately i added a new section in my user page where i list all the names who have been loosely translated. I know most people don't give a crap abt them but who knows maybe someone could be interested. If you want me to add the "approximate name" thing each time i think it's necessary, then yes by all means i'll. After all i want my transaltions to be a 100% accurate. (yeah i know that's impossible)

In fact, the YGO series have already been translated in my language. Keep this between us; the translators did an awful work. Besides, i'm sure the game itself will never be translated in greek. I'm only doing this to help people who don't speak english so well. Aren't I a good Samaritan? LOL

BTW, what did you mean by saying "reply here"? Look, if you meant my Talk Page then i'm really sorry i replied here. I wasn't sure what you meant that's all. (dude, you have like 100 links in your signature!)

P.S. In extreme cases i've also created pages under the link card names where i give the literal translation. --Montechristo95 23:12, June 12, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation

Card Names:Arcana Force 0 - The Fool

I created this page today and I also thought abt doing that. I was waiting for Deltaneos' permission that's all. I wasn't sure if it was ok with the Wikia policy to do that. --Montechristo95 20:37, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

And to answer your question, no I wouldn't put it on the trivia page. I believe it's more abt the name itself. No matter how stupid this may sound, it's some sort of definition for the english name given. I dunno... we can talk abt this if you want. --Montechristo95 20:44, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

Approximate card names

I didn't mind you butting in, but I did mind you misspelling my name xD. Yeah, the discussion did reach a dead end abruptly to be honest. I do add the "Approximate" tag whenever adding unofficial names. As for other cards that need the tag, and the bot, well it is a good idea. However, I'll have to find some way to get a hold of the Greek dubbed anime (which stopped being produced at some random point) and get the cards as well as the official names. That will be a big pain - maybe more than it's worth. But I'll see what I can do about it. I'll keep you posted. --Darth Covah (Talk | DeckZone | Binder) 01:42, June 17, 2010 (UTC)

Hi it's me. Well, i noticed some of your edits and i thought abt asking you sth. Does it really matter if i don't write the approximate name in capital? I mean, it appears normally when the edit is over. And one more thing; is it necessary to put the approximate names and the translated names in general, in alphabetical order? Thanks. --Montechristo95 07:00, June 18, 2010 (UTC)
Neither is strictly necessary, but it's probably better in the long run to be anal about it. =) Don't worry *too* much about either issue if you find them too much trouble to bother with; my bot will take care of them on its maintenance runs (assuming I can ever figure out how to automate alphabetization). =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 07:53, June 19, 2010 (UTC)

Question

Sorry if i am becoming annoying; when i wanna add an unofficial approximation, what do I write? Thanks! --Montechristo95 22:36, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

Nah, you're not annoying - I needed a wake-up call (or a nap)... =) Hmm... If you mean, you want to specifically mark an unofficial translation as approximate, there's no built-in way to do so... you could use {{Approximate name}} instead of {{Unofficial name}}, but there's no guarantee it won't be updated to the non-redirect name (and indeed, my bot is currently changing it like that). For now, I guess, you can add another parameter, something like {{Unofficial name|Language|approximate=Language}}. It's not actually supported by the template currently, but my bot will leave it alone and support can always be added in the future if necessary. Hope this helps! ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 22:43, June 20, 2010 (UTC)
I'm gonna give it a try. Thanks again for your reply. --Montechristo95 22:51, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

Hey

Hey what's up? It's me. All right look, I left you this message in order to apologise for the trouble I got you into today reading torn-apart conversations. I shouldn't have lost my temper so easiy over such a trivial issue. Maybe you want to invite RabbitUp to join the forum. (that is if you haven't done so already) --Montechristo95 22:52, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

It's no problem; that just happens to be one of my pet peeves. =) This discussion may have been better suited for the forum, though, true. From what I gathered, though, it sounds like you've been using Google for your translations - there's nothing inherently wrong with this, but Google's translations should be taken with a grain of salt, instead of as Word of God. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 23:14, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
I'm only using Google when i'm stuck with a difficult word or i'm not sure abt sth. I don't think it's that wrong to do it but i'll pay attention to your advice. I'm also using the freeonlinedictionary when google fails to give me the answer i need. --Montechristo95 23:23, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
Aah, that's not so bad. It sounded like you were simply plugging words into it and running with the given translations. If you don't mind a bit more advice (and can work around the fact that it comes from translating between Japanese and English, which is miles away from Greek<->English), I find it often helps, after translating to the target language, to plug the offered translation back in and see what Google Translate does with it. This can also lead to other possibilities for the translation to use, depending what it says about the word's definitions, synonyms, etc. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 23:28, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
I have to say I'm kinda offended by you for thinking that even for a second. I'm always trying to have my translations 100% accurate so that I can avoid incidents like my quarrel with RabbiUp. Whenever I'm not sure abt a translation I give, then i offer a summary which mentions it so that others can improve it. Don't think I forget the approximations I give; i will definitely improve them someday. If you still doubt abt my skills as a translator, you can ask other greek translators here to tell you their opinions abt me. (even RabbitUp recognised my edits). I hate it when one of my translation is proven wrong and I also admit that I'm prideful abt my edits and i don't like being correctioned by anyone. It's true that I had several argues today but they did point out some of my mistakes and I'll try to correct them. Again, thanks for your advice; I've already tried that in the past but I stopped it because it was time-consuming and also it made me feel depended on Google. --Montechristo95 23:39, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
Sorry about that, it wasn't my intention to offend you by any means - that's just what it seemed like you were saying, based on what I was able to get out of the conversation, but it is hardly my opinion of you. =) I know it can be quite time-consuming (though I'd wager it doesn't hold a candle to attempting to back-translate English chapter titles into the original Japanese, when I have the original Japanese chapter titles but no way to copy them, and do not read Japanese myself @_@ ). ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 23:47, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
Well thanks for your apology, it made me feel better; or at least it calmed down my ravenous anger. For your information, most of RabbitUp's edits were corrections of the style adding capital letters to the words or giving an alternate synonym which in most cases was proven to be wrong. I've put quite The effort these days to translate card names and maybe I'm devoting too much time in this Wiki. But I think my translation project is well-organised and correct and I can't accept insultive and pointless corrections or doubts by other users. To tell you the truth, I seriously considered abandoning this Wiki today after all that happenned and I do feel really bad for annoying Deltaneos for nothing.
Btw, I didn't know you did that; that must be quite tiring to say the very least. But I guess when you have a passion for sth you can keep doing it no matter how much exhausting it might be. --Montechristo95 23:58, June 23, 2010 (UTC)
It can be hard sometimes, but always try to remember - it's only the Internet. If you have to, step away from your monitor for five minutes and just try to relax or something. =)
And yeah, it wasn't easy, and I ended up with several kanji which didn't really match, but I couldn't find anything better for them - the series, BTW, was Planetes, and I definitely have a passion for the medium (manga). =D ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 00:07, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
Yes I've actually tried this several times. But today it would just not work. The guy pissed me off with his attitude and the thing that really drove me over the edge was the fact that he looked down on me because he's older than me by 5 years. What a vast difference don't you think? I could also post some crap like "I'm 25 years old and I speak English fluently". It would be a lot easier that way. But I guess I pay the price for being frank. --Montechristo95 00:21, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

Unofficial name template

Noticed you add it at every card which still has the approximate one. That must be really tedious. Need some help with it? --Montechristo95 (talkcontribs) 23:55, July 2, 2010 (UTC)

Nah, I'm just doing that to clear out some of the subcategories of Category:Card pages with an approximate name (changing the template isn't strictly necessary, but I'm editing the pages anyways, so...). Besides, my bot does the change automatically anyways (when I happen to run it ;) ), so they'll all be converted eventually anyways. You should certainly feel free to update the usage yourself when you're editing card pages for other reasons, though. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 00:10, July 3, 2010 (UTC)
Of course. I don't add the template to cards when I don't have anything else to edit as well, but whenever I see it when I translate a card name I correct it. Yeah, I forgot your bot sorry. --Montechristo95 (talkcontribs) 12:56, July 3, 2010 (UTC)
No problem. The only reason I've not run my bot any recently is that I'm working on something new and I don't have all the kinks worked out yet (that, and I haven't worked all the bugs out of the regexes for it, either =) ). ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 15:24, July 3, 2010 (UTC)
Ok. All right, this is kinda irrelevant to our conversation but it is somewhat important so I would ask you some day. But since I hate annoying you all the time, I'm gonna go straight ahead and ask: When I translate Anime-only and Manga-only card names, is it necessary to add the template or not? I'm talking of course about cards mentioned in the anime series which haven't been dubbed yet in my language. --Montechristo95 (talkcontribs) 21:25, July 3, 2010 (UTC)
Please feel free to annoy me all you'd like; one side effect of all my time spent on Wikipedia is that I enjoy answering questions from other users - I like the feeling of helping others out, and I also like the chance to test how much I know and how clearly I can explain it. =) As for tagging unofficial translations of anime- and manga- (and, by extension, video game-, but I have no idea what the state of Greek licensing of YGO video games is) only cards, I would say it's probably not as important, but it also couldn't hurt, if the little bit of extra work doesn't bother you too much. =) Also, in case you haven't noticed it yet, I thought I'd point out that in the InsertChars box below the edit window, I've added a link to automatically add the code "{{Unofficial name|}}" into the edit window, thus saving you some typing. As an added bonus, it automatically positions the cursor between the pipe and closing brackets, so you can immediately insert the language name after clicking it, without having to scroll or click inside the edit box or anything. Cheers! =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 03:53, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

So far I've seen that the template itself if running smoothly and as YamiWheeler said it makes it look better.
