Yo-kai Girl[1] (
Design
Appearance
As suggested by the name, they are spirit-like little girls, wearing robes that look like typically far-east traditional clothing.
Etymology
In the OCG, each card has a name with a double meaning. For example, the Japanese name of "Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit" (幽鬼うさぎ Yuki Usagi) literally means "Ghost Ogre Rabbit" but is pronounced the same way as "Snow Rabbit" (雪兎 Yuki Usagi). The English names consist of both meanings.

Playing style
The members of this series are hand traps. Each member was designed to counter a specific kind of action, ranging from the mere activation of a face-up card's effect to preventing an OTK; also, they can be effective countermeasures against decisive actions to many strategies, like searching a card or Special Summoning from the Graveyard. Each of them interacts with a different place/feature of the game mechanic, as highlighted below:
Monster | Attribute | Effect |
---|---|---|
Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit | LIGHT |
Destroys a face-up card on the field whose effect has been activated. |
Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries | DARK |
Banishes all copies of a monster from the opponent's Extra Deck, after a copy of that monster has been revealed from its owner's Extra Deck. |
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring | FIRE |
Negates an effect that would either add a card from the Main Deck to the hand, Special Summon a monster from the Main Deck and/or send a card from the Main Deck to the Graveyard. |
Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion | EARTH |
Negates the activation of an effect that would move a card out of the Graveyard (except effects that place Spell/Trap Cards onto the field). |
Ghost Sister & Spooky Dogwood | WATER |
Each time the opponent Special Summons an Effect Monster during the Main Phase or Battle Phase, the player gains LP equal to that monster's ATK. |
Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill | WIND |
If the opponent Special Summons a monster(s) face up, one of those monster's effects is negated, and if that monster leaves the field, its controller takes damage equal to its original ATK. |
