"Nordic Ascendant", known as "Polar Star Angel" (極星天Kyokuseiten) in the OCG and the Japanese anime, are a sub-archetype of the Nordic cards. They are a group of Fairy monsters used by Halldor in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime. "Vanadis" and "Gullveig" are alternative names of the Norse Goddess "Freyja", whereas "Mimir" and Valkyrie" are based on figures from Norse Mythology associated with "Odin".
"Nordic Ascendants", like "Nordic Beasts" and "Nordic Alfar" focus on quickly getting out their "Aesir" Synchro Monster "Odin, Father of the Aesir" out as soon as possible to punish the opponent.
