  • This is the Cover Card of Photon Shockwave.
    • In recent Booster Packs, Cover Cards are Extra Deck or Nomi monsters, while recent Structure Deck Cover Cards are normally monsters that can be Normal Summoned but have effects that allow them to be Special Summoned; Due to its effect, "Galaxy-Eyes" looks closer to a Structure Deck Cover Card than a Booster Pack Cover Card.
    • This is the first non-Extra Deck cover card since "Crimson Crisis".
  • This is one of very few cards, if not the only, that mentions "Battle Step" in its effect description. Most cards with effect(s) that activates during a battle mentions Damage Step or Battle Phase instead.
  • This card's name follows the same pattern as "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" and "Red-Eyes B. Dragon".
    • In further relation to the two Dragons, this card's color scheme could be a reference to them as well. Blue in reference to "Blue-Eyes" (parts of the armor, and the eyes in one look are also blue) and red in reference to "Red-Eyes" (parts of the armor).
      • Looking at its effect, there is some kind of relation since these two monsters' ATK are more than 2000 so they can be Tributed to Special Summon this card.
    • This monster's Attack, 'Photon Stream of Destruction', is also very similar to both in name and appearance to the attack of "Blue-Eyes White Dragon".
  • This card has the same ATK as "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", "Armed Dragon LV10", and "Red Dragon Archfiend", the signature cards of Seto Kaiba, Chazz Princeton, and Jack Atlas, the rivals in the previous anime series, possibly hinting that Kite Tenjo, this card's owner, is the real rival for ZEXAL.
    • Also this card has the same DEF, Level, Attribute and Type as "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", making it virtual identical to it with the only difference being that its an Effect Monster as opposed to a Normal Monster.
    • Furthering it's similarities to "Red Dragon Archfiend", in Zexal episode 24, Kite calls this card "Ore no tamashii" (translation: "My soul"), which is what Jack Atlas called "Red Dragon Archfiend" in the Japanese version of 5D's.
  • Kite Tenjo uses this card against "Number" monsters. Even though they cannot be destroyed, they still can be banished from the field. In fact, this card's ability to get rid of Xyz Materials and keep attacking Xyz Monsters every turn makes this card an actual Xyz anti-support card.
    • The "Galaxy" word in its name probably comes from that fact. Indeed, a galaxy-like portal appears during a Xyz Summon of a "Number" monster.
    • When "Galaxy-Eyes" removes an Xyz Monster, it takes its Xyz Materials/Overlay Units through the jewel on its chest exactly the same was as "Utopia" does, further hinting Kite being the series rival.
  • After it's Summoned, its body remains its basic dull purple colour until it steals Xyz Materials which then make its scales and the jewels on its body light up and glow brightly.
  • This card is similar to the "Meklord" archetype, seeing as its effect targets the new type of monster. "Meklords" target Synchros, whilst this one targets Xyzs.
  • This card's background makes it appear to be in outer space, yet another reference to Xyz Monsters as they are claimed to come from another dimension and their card frame also has shooting stars and stationary stars.
  • In both the anime and the manga, when this card is summoned, it appears as a four-sided star that absorbs all light around it, and then takes the form of the monster.
    • This is similar to the sealed form of the "Number" cards.
  • This cards effect to remove itself from play when attacked, is similar to "Shooting Star Dragon", only it simply removes itself and the attacking card from play, rather than negate.
    • This card's ability to banish itself from play and be re-appear on the field is also similar to "Stardust Dragon", as "Stardust Dragon" can send itself to the graveyard and be re-summoned during the End Phase.
  • This is the second Rival's Ace Card to carry on to the manga, the first is Blue Eyes White Dragon. But unlike Blue Eyes, this card's owner only has one copy of this card in Kite's deck.
