OCG Rulings
- This card cannot be activated during the Damage Step.[1]
- This card can be activated in a Chain to a card effect that draws cards like "Pot of Greed".[1]
- This card cannot be activated in a Chain to a card effect that draws cards and perform other effects like "Graceful Charity".[1]
- Providing the effect "● Draw 2 cards." of "Pot of The Forbidden" is chosen to be activated, "Null and Void" can be activated in a Chain. (If the other effects are chosen, "Null and Void" cannot be activated in a Chain.) However, since "Null and Void" cannot be activated during the Damage Step, if the effect of "Pot of The Forbidden" activates during the Damage Step, "Null and Void" cannot be activated in a Chain.[2]
TCG Rulings
Konami Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Konami before the introduction of Problem-Solving Card Text. Since the introduction of the new text structure, individual card rulings for the TCG are no longer issued or actively maintained.[3] They have never been formally overturned as a whole and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules and do not contradict card text. |
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Dimension Fortress Weapon: “Null and Void” cannot be activated while “Dimension Fortress Weapon” is on the field. If “Null and Void” is activated, and “Dimension Fortress Weapon” is Summoned in a chain, add the drawn cards to the hand after both players see them.
- Into the Void: You cannot Chain Null and Void to Into the Void.
Upper Deck Entertainment Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[4] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - You can only chain "Null and Void" to an effect that draws cards and does nothing else. You can chain "Null and Void" to the activation of "Pot of Greed" or "Jar of Greed". You can chain "Null and Void" to the activation of the effect of cards like "Airknight Parshath".
- You can chain "Null and Void" to a Continuous Spell or Trap Card that causes drawing, such as "Mirage of Nightmare" or "Heart of the Underdog".
- You cannot chain "Null and Void" to "Disturbance Strategy", "Graceful Charity", "Card Destruction", "Morphing Jar", "Mind Wipe", "Dragged Down into the Grave", or "Reload".
- You can activate "Null and Void" during the Damage Step, for example against the effects of "Airknight Parshath", "Sasuke Samurai #3" or "Bistro Butcher".
- The card(s) discarded by the effect of "Null and Void" are never treated as actually drawn, so they are considered sent from the Deck to the Graveyard.
- You can chain "Null and Void" to "Reckless Greed". Since you cannot draw by the effect of "Reckless Greed", the effect of skipping 2 Draw Phases is NOT applied.
- You can chain "Null and Void" to the effect of "Royal Magical Library".
- You cannot chain "Null and Void" to the effect of "Appropriate" because the effect of "Appropriate" cannot be chained to.
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Card of Sanctity: You can chain "Null and Void" to "Card of Sanctity".

Rules posted online will be limited to super-complicated and really weird situations. Imagine going down to a dozen pages of card rules, instead of a thousand. It could happen.
